Part of me likes this trade... don't think the Suns would be willing to take Cook's contract, but we can dream. Richardson's the kind of primetime scorer we could look to in the late game. It would be the ultimate win-now move though: Richardson's a player that uses his athleticism, so he'll start to decline long before his 3-year contract is up. And I feel like Nash has one more year of being mentioned with the elite PGs in the league, before he starts that downward spiral (see the Stockton comparison someone posted previously). Essentially, we'd have the next two years (provided Yao stays for the last year) to contend for a title, which I think that squad would be very capable of achieving. But then we'd be saddled with two cumbersome contracts belonging to two aging players. Whatever happens though, in Morey we trust.
Yeah, at best you see a guy go from low to neutral...and even that isn't too common for a guy who comes in score-first.
You guys are crazy. We're straight with the Browly combination. All we need is a backup big man and a reliable finisher besides Yao. I want McGrady to take it personal, but also know that he's not the number one option. If everyone learns to run Adelmans offense right, this team is a DEFINITE title contender. I tried on NBA Trade Machine ESPN, trading Chuck Hayes and Carl Landry for Yi Jianlian and Josh Boone VIEW. The trade ended up successful. This gives Houston two bigger guys, considerably the developing Yi, who is familiar with Yao from the China League. And you make the MODERN DAY TWIN TOWERS IN YAO AND YI! AND you get a solid 6'10'' center in Josh Boone. You can't tell me that this roster wouldn't just DOMINATE: C- Yao PF- Yi SF- Ron SG- McGrady PG- Brooks Bench: Scola Battier Lowry White Wafer Barry Boone Dorsey Cook Thoughts anyone?
Boone actually wouldn't be a bad backup C but I will pass on Yi as my starting PF. I like Scola and Landry too much.
no Yi jian Lian plz... I'm not a hater, but there is a reason Bucks gave him up and the Nets wants to give him up.
IDK though...if Rockets had a chance at getting Yi I bet they do it because of the China Connection already with Yao. Also Yao would probably be the best mentor to Yi and Yi would have no excuses to go through his unmotivated little depressions. The main problem with Yi is his confidence fluctuates. He has periods where he goes 5 games and has 20-10 games...then the next 5 he'll go back down to being a scrub. If Yi was with Yao, Yao would be the perfect mentor to Yi and tell Yi he has the talent and skill to play in the NBA. I think he would flourish here and don't look now the dude is 7 feet.
I doubt Rockets would get Yi because of China connections. They already have all the China connections they need with Yao. Besides, I would never play Yi over Scola. Yi just isn't that good.
LOL....This thread went from talking about potentially acquiring Steve Nash (jackpot) to picking Yi up out of the dumpster. Talk about a bummer.
Yeah Yi isn't better than Scola, not even close...but Yi has potential Landry doesn't. Also Yi will be around longer than Yao and will help the Rockets fanbase in China after Yao's done here. That's what I meant. If it was Landry and Hayes for Yi...I think that is a realistic trade that could happen.
And Landry is is average and Yi has a higher ceiling than Landry. Remember the Lowry trade, we were trading a established PG for a PG with potential. Yi can do everything Landry can, he's proved that he just doesn't do it consistently. It's one of those moves where you don't risk much but you can get a high reward for it. I love Landry too but he is what he is.
What are Landry's main strentgh to the team? Rebounding, Dunking(finishing), and shooting a mid range jumper. Yi can rebound, can dunk (he's pretty athletic), and can definitely shoot the mid range jumper. Like I said...Yi's main problem seems to be the mental part of the game. Landry is a hard-worker blue collar type of guy...while Yi seems to be the talented guy who doesn't work hard enough.
