Yeah, that's a pretty dumb argument. I've watched Suns games and half court situations do not in anyway reduce Nash's effectiveness as a point guard. I don't think Nash's effectiveness on offense should be in question here. My problem with it is that he is bad defensively -- decent as a team defender, but horrible man-to-man, and will likely get worse. Plus he's old, has back issues and is no longer durable. I'm not sure our championship answer lies in turning the keys to another all-star guard with chronic back problems.
Pistons was different. They didn't look like a championship contender at all until Wallace joined them in mid season. Their offense became instantly better and more so to their defense. They could hold opponents scoring low 70s in consecutive games. Agree with you if Malone played in that series they might beat Pistons. Malone killed Rockets when we had to double Shaq that much.
If the "good, young, athletic core" you are refering to is Brooks, Lowry, Wafer and Landry, I say welcome to 5-10 years of the lottery. I mean, seriously a core of those guys won't make the playoffs. That's not our core. This team is built around Yao, with pieces that fit his window of opportunity. Our starting lineup outside of Brooks all have a 2-3 year window. We didn't trade Rudy Gay away for the next 5-10 years. We didn't trade away Donte Greene and 1st rounders for Ron Artest for the next 5-10 years. We did that to win NOW.
another thing is the Rockets are "interested" in Nash but how are they going to get him?? Guys are saying trade McGrady for Nash but don't realize that The trade can not happen because McGrady makes far more than nash. Phoenix is not going to trade their only true point guard and have a rookie basically starting for them. Nash isn't coming to the rockets. Guys need to stop dreaming and look at reality. The Rockets are not going to make no major splashes this offseason. Expect everyone to be resigned and everyone is going to stay put.
Exactly. Actually we don't have a player to be considered very "young". You can find players younger than Brooks, Lowry, Wafer and Landry in many teams, and all those guys can be found in almost any draft without lottery pick. Our young role players are getting overrated so much by a lot of fans here.
The League's hypothetical 2009-10 luxury tax figure is $69.4M http://www.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/index.jsp Artest (S&T) +Brooks +Hayes to PHOENIX for Nash ($13.400,34M) McGrady (ca. $23M) to NEW YORK for Lee (S&T ca. under $9M) + Mobley (ca. $18.4) Landry +Lowry +Mobley to MILWAUKEE for Jefferson ($14.2M) Then add low-cost signings to round out the roster... Brad Newley (drafted/rookie min: $457,588) Matt Nielsen (Pamesa Valencia/est. $800k) Pablo Prigioni (TAU/est. $1.1M)
If portland lands Nash, watch out........ they have the talented young players that the Suns might want
True. And it's not like Yao + Brooks can defend PnR and better. As long as Yao is on the team, people should forget about that and concerntrate more on other aspects of the game.
if this team is suited for Yao than I think maybe getting nash will not be as good as people think, but if Morey wants him then I go with Morey on this one. Nash is getting up in there in years BUT he certainly wont play the same type of 35+ minutes as he did in phoenix. Even if either Brooks or Lowry leave in any possible trade (most likely Brooks remember Phoenix was really high on this guy in the draft) then we have a backup that is 10x better than anyone that backed up Nash in phoenix (i consider barbosa a 2 guard) if morey can pull the following trade off I will fly out to houston and leave him a box of flowers/candy at his door nash barbosa robin lopez for brooks dorsey mcgrady future 1st or 2nd round pick good for the suns: thats enough cap space relief while getting a star back, a young pg they coveted and an athletic big man while getting a possible future prospect for the suns. shaq and tmac are friends and chances are they get all the former orlando stars back on the team..tmac, hill, shaq and they just need to re-sign penny! but depending on where they will go for their head coach a tmac/amare combo could be great too a lot will depend on tmac's health and ability to come back good for the rockets: though old, steady smart PG that can shoot the long ball and push the ball and force the issue on defenses..though a liability on defense his defense is just as good if not better than brooks (that is, they are both terrible but nash is bigger so he is a bit better, plus i think nash lead or is in amongst the league leader in chargers taken) barbosa is that great slasher speedster off the bench that can shoot the 3 ball...basically the guy we all would pray wafer would be (wafer most likely will walk IMO) lopez is that good big man to backup yao. while he isnt as good offensively as his twin brother he is more actively on defense and he isnt a total slouch offensively either, just not as good as Brook. nash/lowry/barry artest/barbosa/white/barry battier/artest/white scola/landry/ cook yao/lopez i would be good with that even if its for just for a season or two till nash retires...hopefully by the Lowry is groomed and improved to jump into the starting role
Some of you guys act like we'd be stuck with Nash for 10 years. He is a free agent after next season. If we get him, the goal would be to win next year. Who knows if he'd even be a Rocket after that. And like an earlier poster said, you have to look at the team's window. You don't pass up chances to win a title. Miami, Boston, etc. all gave up a ton to win titles. Our core group of guys has to win within the next 3 years otherwise they will hit their decline. When I say core, I mean Yao, Artest, Scola (he has only been in the NBA for two years but he's not young, he's almost 30), and Battier. Players like Brooks, Lowry, Landry, etc. aren't going to hit their prime until AFTER our core players are in decline. Point being, if we get a chance to win in the next 2-3 years, we have to go for it. Getting Nash for next season would give us the best shot we've had at a title since 1997. And how exactly is Nash in decline? Other than Chris Paul, he is the ONLY point guard in the league that averaged 15+ ppg, 10+ assists, and 50% FG last year. Plus he shoots 44% from 3s.
At the end of a team's season. For the Rockets it was the moment after Game 7 against the Lakers ended.
- Kidd isn't as good as Nash, at least not for the needs of this team (primarily efficient shooting). - Brooks isn't as good as Devin Harris
I think it could be a good move. Nash and Yao are good friends. PHO loved Brooks pre-draft, so I'm sure they'll be looking for him. I would still do a Nash deal if Brooks was involved, but I would worry about a Devin Harris type situation, especially with the uptempo pace the Suns play.
what cuban gambled for in that trade didn't happen. but the mavs ain't a lot worse, either; even with an aging kidd, their pg position didn't get weaker. while harris, though recognized as allstar in the east, didn't take his nets team anywhere. that trade ain't as dramatic as people think, it turned out to be.
so that has nothing to with yao??....Yao has the Pick & roll defense of shaq...Yao would watch nash jog into the lane and stop and pop all night....Not a hand in his face...Dont put that all on aaron, Lowry got lit up also....atleast brooks was scoring also
Dallas gave up a player that was better than Brooks to get a player that was worse than Nash. Not to mention that we'd be getting rid of McGrady which is another major part of any Nash deal. Brooks played great in the playoffs but he is not some sure fire prospect like Derrick Rose or something. Brooks might turn into a good point guard, he might not. If we were building this team for the future, we woulda never traded Rudy Gay for Battier and Donte Green AND a 1st round pick for Artest. We only have one "young" guy in our starting lineup. Yao, Battier, Artest, and Scola are all 29 or older.
