610 Radio boys just called the front office and they vehemently denied the agreement. Not that that means anything.

Would still be more comfortable if they'd confirmed like Seattle did with Lewis.

That's awesome!!

I think the report may be slightly wrong, if it's an early bird deal, and the average salary is exactly 4 million, it'd be 6 years 27 million, but that's just a detail, right? [IMG]

partner-what do you mean it's capped at 112.5%? That'd be no different than his next year (12.5% raise) if it wasn't renegotiated?

I would not trust that espn report if i was you........according to what i heard the Raptors, who are out of the Croshere taking have turned there attention to Mobley as the ONE guy they are after. Well, my source is just Toronto Radio(FAN590), so i don't know!
David Aldridge never knows what he's talking about anyway, he's full of it.

If this report is true then the rockets and mobley made a wise decision. It gives mobley a payday, as well as financial security while giving the rockets some long term player security. Meaning they won't have to go through this all again in a year or two.

ahhh NIKE

you are right it is the same as the raise. But, it increases the base, which means the raise amount is recalculated. So essentially, you aren't renegotiating a contract, you are renegotiating your yearly raise.

needless to say, the CBA really cut into renegotiating contracts (which I agree with).

It's hilarious that the major FA signing for the Rockets this summer will be their own FA.

Here's to chemistry. [IMG]

Good to hear this but we have to keep it in perspective: today writes that the Rockets are denying this... lets hope it has enough truth to it though what Aldridge is saying (but 6 years?? That cheap of a deal? I am sure that is what the Rockets are vehemently denying... I can't see them getting off that cheap)

i agree....bad contract for Mobley.

very doubtful he settles for 6 yrs at average salary scale.

ah good point, I realized it'd be slightly higher the first year, due to complicated base amount garbage, but I didn't think about the base raise.

6 years 27 million, probably closer to 30 or 31 more including the 4th year renegotiating option is a pretty nice deal, if he's been genuine about not wanting to be greedy and finishing his career in Houston etc. etc.

What is the exact offer Toronto has on the table, isn't it like 6 year 35 mill?

A report of him signing here is a lot better of a sign than a report of him signing in Toronto. [IMG]

Until someone else starts reporting this as true, I will not believe. I wouldn't be able to take the disappointment if it's not.
Plus, Aldridge has messed with my head to often! I won't let him this time [IMG]

I seriously can't see him going for such a deal, but this sure is security.
It just seems to good to be true. Everything else pointed in the other direction and now this? I would have been thrilled if he agreed to a two year deal with a promise to give him the big payday in the future. The "would have been" is of course assuming he'll be back.

I just emailed BSKball about it and here was his response for anyone who wanted to know.

He wants to stay in Houston...so no that does not surprise me to hear
that report..... Is he coming cheap, yes, but he has long term security,
and likely an opt out in 3 years, which means monster payday.

I don't know if I beleive its a done deal, but It sure seemed odd, how
in love with each other they appeared, then these Croshere stories hit
the net... So maybe Cuttino realized where the love was at.

BskBALL

Not a lot but I thought I'd share what I got from him.

I don't want to jinx it by getting too excited before it's official, but this is awesome news. As extremely pissed off I was when there it looked like our Mobes would run off with the Raps, I am extremely happy upon reading this news. Great scoop!

Sure it isn't Aug 1st yet.

Sure the Rockets front office vehemently [IMG] denies it.

But I for one feel better about Cat signing now than before the report... and I never really felt badly - Mobes just wants security (insurance against a Jayson Williams type injury) and to establish his free market value.

Why a long term Early Bird makes sense (and should encourage you):

- It effectively insures him against injury. This is guaranteed money, whether it's written in the contract or not. From this POV, a player would feel much better about a 25/27 vs 41 risk than the short term 8 that has been popular to talk about. (All #'s in millions [IMG] )

- "BUT, little junior member guy, what if he doesn't get injured and is playing on a grossly undervalued contract?" Well, I thought about that - b/c see on my SAT I made... ah, gotcha [IMG] - and in order to give kitty as much litter as he wants, the Rox will: 1) Flat out renegotiate and max out at the earliest possible juncture (Been mentioned - CBA detail clarification, anyone?) AND 2) Include a player year option at the end of the contract to give Mobley the option of tearing it up then maxxing out while still holding the security of that extra ~6 million dollar year if he gets injured well before then. I don't believe mid-contract "opt-outs" (ala football) are allowed under this CBA.

A delicate balance between security and market value is what a long term Early Bird with promised money (ala SA) and player year option implies, and if I were Mobley torn between those issues and loving the team that I play for, a long term Early (whether it is 4,5 or the reported 6 yrs) is what makes sense to me.

Then again, he probably just saw the Franchise forehead move and said, "That ain't nothin' - serve me up the Early and watch - I can do that left handed."

well that's an awesome post CB4ever.

what a day...we "out" a famous lurker to talk about Tamalalia 2000, I find Clutch's chat address, Mobley makes me giddy, Smeggy talks game plays, and we land another Charles Barkley fan with flair...or is that Chucky Brown.

Oh,,,a nice cool 25 posts for heypartner for a hard days work!!

....game on!!

A Jason Williams injury would be something like a seizure from a drug overdose (that's the Sacramento guard, you meant the Nets former all star Jayson Williams PF/C that recently had to retire due to injury). Good points in your post, even though if heypartner's posts are correct, he wouldn't be able to get a max contract, though he could get a nice new contract after that 4th year starting at 6 million (again, if the average salary started at EXACTLY 4 million). It works out nicely if he signs a 6 year, average year salary, starting at 4 mill, that 12.5% is exactly 500K (.5 mill)

You got me.

I didn't quite get a [IMG] 1600 [IMG] on my SAT.

I was very disappointed. [IMG]

Although, Jayspon must have been before my time. Doesn't ring a bell. [IMG]
