ESPN Readers Prefer Dog Killing to Gambling

    I think they would fair better than the NBA would because I think part of the NBA's declining popularity is due to what's perceived as horrible officiating. However, I still think that any sport that goes through any kind of scandal like this will suffer greatly.

    Not to mention, the NFL has always been willing to change rules that are proven to be unfair. It seems like every offseason, they make an effort to make sure that any issues with the rules are addressed. IMO, the NBA (or more precisely-David Stern) is too cocky and unwilling to admit to any problems with officiating. He's still saying today that they have the best refs in the world.

    not football, college football has actually gone through a couple of point shaving scandals. didn't miss a step, wasn't even as big a story as probably should have been

    I know college basketball has, but I don't recall any college football scandals.

    Yeah, I found the Boston College one. I think had it been at a bigger school or had been more than one game, it would have been a bigger deal. In those two instances, you had a handful of players affecting games for one team. A referee who is involved in all games that will affect all teams is a much different beast.
