Before you critique our hiring process, consider for a sec, just one second, that maybe during the interview, Brown may it be known that while he was interested in coaching Houston, we were not his 1st choice and that he wanted to wait (just like CD said he wanted to wait) and see if anything else came upon.

Maybe Larry Brown was never really interested in coming here. You say the Rockets never made an offer without knowing if they did or not. Maybe we DID make an offer and Brown turned it down to pursue the Detroit job.

Before you bash our management, please explore all the possibilities.

    Gater,

Excellent post. You hit the nail on the head.

Brown really has his pick of the litter. He can join a team that is already a great team that is only going to get better come draft day, or he can join a team that just needs a little cohesion and a "stern hand" to guide them into the playoffs.

If I were Brown, I would be a little worried about Dumars, he just fired a coach who gave them a 50 win season and a second round playoff birth. There is also the fact that he was kick out of the playoffs (barely) by the same team, a team that I am sure he thought he could beat.

I think this is just a rumor made by ESPN. Why? Well think about it, if Larry Brown knows that he was going to get hired by Piston, and by doing so, he will force Carlisle out of his job. Knowing this is he still going to take the job? Is Larry Brown really that kind of person?

Of course I could be wrong.

A "Moron" is not one paticular person. It is someone who does not like to look at facts and wants to hate just for the hell of it.

Anyways, I agree that you are a moron if you don't think Cuttino can be a go to guy in clutch situations.

May the force be with us!

    A new hope arises! ;)

One thing's for sure: Les and CD must make up their minds about wether they want Brown ASAP and then outbid Detroit.

    Get those phones working!

Get Yao to call from China!

I still have faith that our situation IS more attractive overall and specially for Brown! In Detroit he would be running essentially the same system he ran in Philly, minus Iverson! The man loves a challenge! Get him here!

The other thing about this is that strong rumors have it that the Philly owner let Brown out of his hold by asking Brown to please leave the Eastern Conference.

Sorry MacBEth I wasn't trying to say you were blaming Houston. I used your post as a jumping point. I was saying this because you mentioned the possibility of grabbing Brown. I used your post because I particularly liked the phrase 'possiblity of hiring Brown.'

I was careful to say people and not accuse you, but that was the obvious infrence you took from it, since I quoted you and then talked about people who did blame CD and Les.

Of course, there may be a share of blame that they deserve, but I just didn't like seeing other people jumping the gun on it.

Now that the rumor has been modified, maybe things we still have a shot. I really hope so. I want Brown!

Suppose Brown came to the interview, and said, "I'll be honest. I'm interviewing out of respect and my personal friendship for you, Les. But I'm not too exited about the prospect of coaching a player like Steve Francis whose game almost mirrors the game of a player I left in Philly. I don't think anyone can win the championship with the personnel you have, notwithstanding Yao. Plus, Carroll, no offense, but if I came, your duties would be restricted to shaking hands, sitting in the draft room with me, and giving a few interviews. If I came, I would bust up the team. Finally, my wife didn't really like your weather and your rednecks when we were in San Antonio."

So then what do you do if you are Les and CD? Do you still offer him the job? And then face the ridicule in the press of being turned down? And the ill-will of the next coach feeling like the "second choice". (How would your prom date have feel if she knew you asked someone else first?)

Or do you say, "Larry, I know you really don't want to come here, but will $20 million per year change your mind?"

Personally, I would come out and say we are slowing the search, and then interview Silas.

I thought it was mentioned on ESPN. My friends were talking about it at breakfast. Is this not true? rumor is that Brown asked for release, and the owner said OK, but do me a favor and take a job in the West.

Why did Larry Brown choose Detroit over Houston? Here is my speculation:

Brown has so far achieved everything that can be imagined in his basketball career, except an NBA championship ring. With about 5 years left in his sunsetting career, his only goal will be to win the ultimate prize. Philly has proved to him they couldn't bring that for him. LA Cilppers has zero chance in this regard. Then why not Houston?

This has a lot to do with his bad expereince with his former team's franchise player Allen Iverson. Brown just doesn't have enough confidence that Stevie the Franchise wouldn't turn out to be another AI type of superstar and team "leader".

Obviously, if the report of Brown to Detroit is correct, then the Detroit job only "came available" after Brown told them he would take it. Otherwise, Carlisle would still be the coach. If the report is true, discussions had to take place in the past few days.

I'd just like to thank Gater and Jack Hammer for adding a little sanity to this thread. Geez, I know this is probably just a knee jerk reaction from most of y'all, but so many of y'all have absolutely no patience when it comes to dealing with the Rockets. One freakin rumor article on ESPN and that leads to "The Rockets organization sucks, has no balls, doesn't make changes!" Come on. Over the last decade, the Rockets have been as proactive as any other organization.

And besides, I believe it is definitely good business practice to interview ALL candidates and then have the bosses determine who's the best fit.

    I am tired.

Too many info to handle all the sudden. No more comment until everything is settled.
