I have a feeling that it is all CD's fault in the Larry Brown negotiations and Les should have just taken his wife with him and had a double date instead of CD... I mean Larry wants alot of CD's job responsibilities and that whole process of really speaking bluntly about what each side wants was just delayed a week with CD their probably.

Are you telling me that for a guy that likes to turn teams around, a team that has both Yao Ming and Steve Francis, and a couple of reasonably valued tradeable assets in a shiny new arena and all the attention in the world isn't more attractive than a clearly overachieving Pistons team plus Carmelo Anthony?

    Gimme a break!

And I don't want Dunleavy! He lost control of the Blazers big time and talented young players like Jermaine O'Neal used to ROT in their bench!

let's not sob on this.. its LB's loss.. instead of coaching a great team, he went to the east and coach another team that the west can easily man-handle.. it's his loss.. the west is where its all at. now, we need paul silas or rick carlisle to be our coach.

It's not Carmelo they are after... it's most likely gonna be Darko. If you ask me, taking on the challenge of molding and shaping Darko would be a good enough reason to join the Pistons.

It looks like the organization wasted so much time and energy, as well as the fans, looking to lure Larry Brown to Houston that Jeff Van Gundy was virtually ignored.

I still don't see why so many were and still are fixated on Brown with his "let me come here for 3 years and leave" tactics.

If the reports of JVG are true, we missed out on a great coach. Larry Brown simply wasn't what we needed.

there had to be a ready-made reason for firing Carlisle. The only other explanation would have been a petty contract extension squabble like what happened to Silas.

Minds can change in the interview process. From the few reports we have received, only Dunleavy supposedly "wowed" the Rox brass. The others did fine. if Brown was the frontrunner, perhaps Dunleavy's interview changed that. Who knows.

Brown's in the twilight of his coaching career. He wants the quickest path to the Finals, and a ring. It's fair for him to think that, in the next three years, Detroit will have a better shot. Now that Shaq is in serious decline, the league is wide open, but the east is still weaker.

we want the best coach available. But we also want a coach that is absolutely committed to the Rox success and impassioned about that. It's like marriage, sort of. if you aren't sure, you better not say I do. If Brown's not sure, then he might not be the right guy.

We should take a look at Carlisle immediately, then decide on the round 2 interview slate.

First of all, the Pistons will probably take Darko not Carmelo. He supposedly totally wowed the Pistons during his workout and he's only 17.

Second. The Pistons play in the East which makes it much easier to advance than in the West. Detroit made it to the conference finals with no superstars on that team.

Third. The Pistons are as good as the Rockets. The talent difference is not that noticeable and they play with much greater intensity and teamwork.

If the Rockets played in the East, they wouldve probably won about the same games as Detroit. Add in Darko and the reality that Detroit does play in the East and yes, that job is more attractive.

Yeah, you see the difference here between an agrressive organization and one that drags their collective as--- behind them. Detroit saw gold, and wasted no time going after it. Meanwhile we treat Brown as if he's just another interview. The fact that the Rockets did not have an offer on the table for Brown before now is another terrible mistake by the Rockets organization. It's one hting not to get Brown, but to barely even try....................good luck selling the fans of Houston on the new arena next season. You better have a pretty damn good plan B becuase it's not going to be easy to live this one down. Van Gundy, Silas, and Dunleavy are capable coaches, but you had a shot at #1 and missed the chance to seize the day. Anything less than Carlisle, Riley, or Phil Jackson when you've had a shot at Larry Brown will pretty much be unacceptable by the majority of fans. The Rockets inaction in this matter is as terrible a business move as it is a basketball move.

This is what I thought too. I wonder if Detroit went to Brown first or vice versa. If Brown went to Detroit, campaigning for Carlisle's job, then I have no respect for Brown.

Hopefully, well work quickly and get Dunleavy on board before the Hawks sale goes through. After reading everyones breakdowns around here, I think Dunleavy would be just as good of a fit as Brown would.

If this is true, so much for Brown asking for too much control. No way he doesn't know Dumars is his boss.

    This is very interesting stuff.

Wonder if Brown will want to wait on Darko, take Anthony for more immediate impact, or trade the pick for the most immediate impact.

    hmmmm

While we are deciding on the round 2 interview slate, 4 other teams will be announcing their new head coaches. This weekend, Les better be scrambling to make something happen with the knowledge that he has learned over the week. Time to take a RISK and just get your top candidate THIS WEEKEND...

That's an interesting theory but I have to disagree. Joe Dumars is atleast as highly regarded as Carrol Dawson so I don't see how that could be a problem. I'm still trying to figure out how Larry Brown will coexist with Joe Dumars.

Mitch Lawrence of ESPN is predicting that Rick Carlisle will land in Indiana as management is not very happy with Isiah Thomas.

Not to mention the fact that the Pistons play out east. With Kidd possibly leaving Jersey, the Pistons could find themselves running this conference for a while.

I have a hard time believing Les and CD will settle for anything less than an established star coach.I understand Brown having a better chance to reach the finals in the weak East right now. When I heard Brown wasn't coming I was surprised, but perhaps they have something else up their sleeve......Pat Riley,Don Nelson, who knows, but on past history and being at this critical junction where we are as a franchise..I say Les pulls another whopper.I don't want Dunleavy,Silas,or Van Gundy(all whom I like as people and respect as coaches) and hope Les sticks to form and shells out the big money.

Saying Piston is not as good as Rox is a joke. They are also young, play team ball, and went to conference final this year.

Remeber this years' series VS Pistons, Rox got beat badly and get swept by them!!!

And talking about championship, clearly Piston is closer than us, I really dont know when Rox can make the western conference final. Hopely 3 years???

This is not a surprise to me, Larry Brown is hot right now, and there is really not much time for owners to ponder it. I can sense the outcome when there is no offer given after Houston owner met with Brown.

Source: Pistons fire Carlisle, will hire Brown

By LARRY LAGE, AP Sports Writer
    May 31, 2003
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- The Detroit Pistons fired coach Rick Carlisle and will hire Larry Brown, a source within the league said Saturday.

Carlisle was fired late Friday and the Pistons will replace him with Brown on Monday, the source told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Carlisle led the Pistons to a 50-win season and a spot in the conference finals for the first time since 1991. Detroit's playoff run ended May 24, when the Pistons were swept by the New Jersey Nets in the Eastern Conference finals.
