This maybe one of the weakest periods for shooting guard of all time:

2000s: Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Dwyane Wade, Vince Carter, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Joe Johnson, Monta Ellis, Manu Ginobili, Jerry Stackhouse, Richard Hamilton, Michael Redd, Cuttino Mobley, Michael Finley, Jason Richardson, Corey Maggette, and Stephen Jackson.

1990s: Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler, Reggie Miller, Mitch Richmond, Allan Houston, Latrell Sprewell, Steve Smith, Penny Hardaway (combo guard), Jamal Mashburn, Jim Jackson, Kendall Gill, Eddie Jones, Hersey Hawkins, Jeff Hornacek, and even John Starks.

1980s: Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler, Walter Davis, Jeff Malone, Rolando Blackman, Dennis Johnson, Sidney Moncrief, World B. Free, Ricky Pierce, Joe Dumars, Marques Johnson, Ron Harper, Reggie Theus, Byron Scott, Andrew Toney, Jeff Hornacek, and Alvin Robertson.

1970s: George Gervin, Earl Monroe, Pistol Pete Maravich, Jo Jo White, Norm Nixon, Lou Hudson, Dennis Johnson, Phil Chenier, Jerry West (briefly), Gail Goodrich, Phil Smith, and Jerry Sloan.

Danny Green played some of the best defense on Lebron that I have ever seen, and he's an elite shooter as well. Sure he doesn't slash to the basket or have an array of offensive moves but he's a lights out, ice cold shooter that knows his role perfectly. He's a fantastic player and I'd list him at #4 on this list. If I want a slasher and play-maker I could get one of the many PGs in the league to complement Danny Green. He was one missed free throw/ rebound/ Ray Allen three from being the NBA Finals MVP.

The problem with this list is that it completely disrespects the defensive minded 2 guards. Thank and tony Allen should both be at least mentioned on this list.

A position that Michael Jordan played is weak? Are you serious? But then again I read your username. Weak name...

I wouldn't necessarily say that, because 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s are filled with a great number of talented small forwards.

He meant the position as it is today is weak. Historically, it's been one of the stronger positions in the NBA.

You might be right though.... I think the game has changed. With all the ball handling and sharp shooting bigs.
And of course you have the shooting guards in PG's bodies - the ever scoring and gunning PGs of this era.
