The ranking was made after Yao's injury and McGrady's return. Here's what Stein says about the Rockets: 5. ROCKETS: In the event T-Mac's back has somehow been cured by that new specialist -- assuming chronic back woes can be cured -- maybe Yao's latest setback isn't a crisis.
Who let a Mavs fan get on our forum. Of course we are better than the Pistons, we should be ranked # 1, This is a ROCKETS fan sight.
The only reason the Pistons fell is because they had a REALLY bad week. It's nice for the Rockets to get a little respect from the media.. but then again.. I take it with a grain of salt, because it IS the media. We had a really good week without our star center. What respect that was given was definately deserved by the Rockets.
I'm thinking more like because Yao isn't active in the team.. I bet if Yao was playing we would be around 8-11... Yao just never get the respect
Catch who by surprise? It's not like other teams prepare harder because their opponent just moved up 4 spots in the ESPN Power Rankings... "Damn guys, we gotta bring it tonight. The Rockets just moved 2 spots ahead of us in the rankings and we can't get disrespected like that!" Yeah, I really don't think that happens. Teams take you seriously based on record and who is healthy. Power rankings don't change that, so why not just be pleased that we're #5? It's all subjective and simply for fun anyway.
Maybe he meant that he didn't want the Rockets believing their own press clippings. Of course with Yao out, I don't see the Rockets taking any team lightly. That's one of the reasons for their solid 10-3 record at home this year. They've come into every game prepared unlike in past seasons.
Well the same applies to the Rockets. I doubt they look at ESPN Power Rankings and go... "Hey, look at this guys...tonight we're going up against the Pistons and they're only ranked what, 8th?! lol! Easy win."
Lol, I seriously doubt that Rockets players go 'lol' in the real world, especially Shane Battier Power rankings are only opinions, nothing more, but sometimes it's worth looking at them to see how the media judges teams and since they have a say in the All-NBA teams, a look as to which players they would prefer on what team.
The problem with that is that all three teams are in the same state and are natural rivals so it geographically makes sense to keep them in the same conference and division. Then again though the T-Wolves and Bucks are in different conferences and WI is MN's rival in every other sport.
Don't get me wrong. I love power rankings. It's fun to anticipate them every week and depending on whose rankings they are, you can sort of use them as Cliff's notes for the current NBA landscape. I just doubt that they effect the players in any way, if they even bother to look at them in the first place.
Can't Houston be considered South East since we are in the central and east of Texas. We need to move to the Eastern Conference
we had a really good week beating a struggling nets, a struggling hawks and even more struggling greg oden sweepstakes grizzlies. I don't see how those wins can attribute to a rise in the power rankings.
