Are you kidding? Yes, he is their Franchise player..for now, but that doesn't mean he's reached elite superstar status. Can you mention him in the same sentence as Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Yao Ming, Kevin Durrant, etc.? No, you can't. He's not quite there yet. He's on the cusp, sort of, just as I said earlier. You can't label him a role player either. You don't mention him in the same sentence as Chris Anderson, Shane Battier, J.R. Smith, James Posey, etc. You can't label every player just a superstar or a role player. If AB was on the nets, both him and Lopez would be their franchise players. Franchise players don't always equate to superstars depending on the the team they are on.

You seem to have a very superficial view of basketball. Every player falls into 1 of 3 categories according to you. This eludes to you having a very limited knowledge of the game.

Every sane person on this board would flip Yao for Lopez.

All this nonsense about "super"star players is so stupid. It's completely subjective, i.e. meaningless. If you can't precisely define it, don't say it.

I'm really tired of such and such isn't a "superstar" player. What does that mean? Nothing.

What are you doing mentioning Yao with the likes of Wade, Durant, Lebron, and Kobe?

    I love Yao but...c'mon man!

This is exactly my point. REEKO is trying to "define" every player by placing them into one of three categories--which is impossible. The spectrum of talent is just too vast for every player to fall into one neat spot.

The initial debate arose by me posting that if the Knicks get Anthony, our draft picks do not become "worthless", as a few posters said. He replied that they were worthless for a number of reasons, including that a later pick would get us, at best, a serviceable role player. I replied "Is AB a roleplayer?". He continued and said, that there are 3 types of players: Superstars, Role Players, and pine ridders.

So it wasn't me that was trying to put a label on players. In fact, I was arguing the opposite.

Are you seriously trying to argue logically with Reek?

Talk about a giant waste of your time.

That could go either way, true. It's hard to think about it now after he's fresh off of an injury, but he's still mostly recognized by his history of work--which is as arguably the best if not the runner-up for best center in the league over the past few years.

Exactly. You nailed it. It's a dumb, meaningless term and lumping players under this label or not under it is useless in evaluating a player or a team.

I don't think he's with those guys. Those guys are Tier 1 players, Yao is like a tier 2 player with the likes of guys like Brandon Roy. Whether he's the best Center or not, it's really not saying much considering the lack of good Centers in the NBA right now.

Also Dwight has always been #1 in my mind, he's done more with that team and you can argue he's done more with less. I always say Yao is the best scoring Center though, i'll give him that.

Brook Lopez is far from being a superstar in this league, he's not even on the verge of it but more like 10 football fields away. Are you kidding me? Tell me the last time a superstar lead his team to the 2nd worst record in the history of the entire NBA.

Maybe Yao is, and maybe he isn't. But my point is that there are more than 3 kinds of players in the NBA. Like you said, "Yao is like a tier 2 player with the likes of Brandon Roy." Neither one would be considered a "role player" would they? No, they are both better than role players but arguably not as good as the top tier players of the league
