Lee got $80mil for 5 years? I consider him and Scola are equals, make you wonder how much Scola is gonna get.
Apparenly, Daryl Morey is threatening to do the same. http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2010/07/the_nets_and_free_agency_the_4.html
And you feel proud about it? debunk an argument, instead of namecalling without arguments, like you did in this case.... The forums are supposed to be places to present ideas and defend them, not to be harsh with people ..... If you disagree with a poster, debunk his ideas if you will, atacking the person just because, without showing the arguments of why the ideas of the attacked one are wrong, is not a trademark of an intelligent person.
I think I made it clear that wasn't my usual habit. I basically agree with everything you said. That guy has just been driving me nuts for about a year. And there isn't even any reason to argue with his ideas. He's so dumb he'll never understand why he's wrong. I should just put him on ignore. And proud? No. But I do think it's funny. Actually, it's sad. Because I feel like I at least occasionally contribute a good thought to this forum - but I have a total of 90 rep points. 10 of them came from ripping jcdenton last night. More than 10% of my total was from a single ruthless post. Go figure.
I hope I'm wrong, but I sense that signing Scola isnt a huge priority to Morey. Clearly, he wants to retain Lowry, which we probably will. But with Scola, I dont know if he wants to take the cap hit on paying him that high while he has a player in Patterson who might be able to fit into the 'Scola niche' without a significant drop off....this would also explain some of the Kurt Thomas rumors.
I know Morey said what he said about the Nets but if they front load a 5 yr - 50 million dollar deal...I don't know, Luis is great and all but that's a lot of coin.
I don't think the Nets will pay Scola that much. They declined paying David Lee the $13.3 mil a year he got from GS because they don't want to be carrying a burdensome contract when Favors is ready to play in the next year or two -- and I think you gotta give the kid some significant enough minutes at least in the 2nd half of this season. They also declined offering something to match/beat the $40 mil paid to Tyrus Thomas. Scola's name was mentioned in one report, but more recent reports have not included his name but have mentioned guys like Haslem, Harrington, or even a possible trade for Murphy instead. The Nets got options. Scola might be the best, but if they waste 7 days and get matched, it may cause their 2nd favorite guy (Haslem?) to fall off the map, too. Anyhow, beyond the Nets, I don't see anyone else with cap space even being in position to make an unreasonable offer to Scola.
This si better: Clippers sign forward Brian Cook to two-year deal worth about $2.5 million, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.
If Tyrus Thomas is about to sign at 5 years 40M. http://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA What would be an unreasonable offer to a 20 10 guy, who's 30, but also unbreakable (no single game absent since arriving to NBA, not even pre season or playoff game injured)...and that he'll likely be playing at his best at his late 30s (remember Jordan being MVP and getting his 6th ring at 35)?
Depends on who is in a position to make him an offer. Lets remember NBA free agency isn't some sort of rational open market place. There are only 30 teams, many run by irrational management-- and there is the salary cap, restricted free agency, etc. So, it's not that shocking that some guys get overpaid and others get underpaid. I mean, Bonzi Wells turned down a $35 mil extension and ended up with $3 mil a year. Ron Artest turned down $40 million, spent a very productive year in Houston, and ended up signing for the MLE (Kobe crush is a factor, of course). Trevor Ariza turned down MLE from the Lakers to sign for MLE with the Rockets, when at least one team offered more.
According to Woj, Nets now going after Udonis Haslem or look at trades http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AqYFmTRbLrDIh8HLBn3qzr.8vLYF?slug=ys-thomasnets070910 So it looks like Morey scared off the Nets with Scola
