i like the idea that they want players to just accept the call without complaining or being demonstrative. after all, its not like the call is going to change, but you still have to give some wiggle room for human reaction. i'm not sure these rules do that.

As has already been stated, this is not a ban on celebratory air punches, just the air punches (often thrown in the direction of the ref) after perceived missed calls.

Man this is stupid. I swear, Stern is taking the fun out of NBA. Fans like to watch an intense emotional game. Players will get emotional once the game gets intense. That is just natural. Not disrespecting the game. I mean the Refs makes bad calls too so players have the right to questioned their calls.

The Nba worries more about stupid things like this more than dealing with flopping. I mean comon, its the NBA, players will get emotional and that is just part of the game. It makes the game more interesting. Plus those stupid techs will cost a team in the playoffs. I think its impossible for players to just play without any emotions.

Comon STERN, why don't you guys work on the flopping instead of taking the emotional rights from the players.

seriously this is getting ridiculous, who cares if a player is mad and makes an emotional gesture, as long as they dont do something stupid (see trevor ariza) and hurt/or almost hurt someone than i don't see the problem. maybe if they focused on more consistent calls players wouldn't complain as much. and that means stop with the superstar touch fouls and start calling it the same for every player, every play, if that means more refs than fine, get better angles, use the cameras, but don't waste my time for this sht there much better things to improve on

Emotion is still in the game, you can hoot and holler all you like after you slam one home. You just can't run directly up to a ref, flail around and cry about everything.

There's no way that $tern'$ refs will actually enforce this fairly but if they did enforce this across the board it would be good for the game. Right now some guys can b**** and get calls, and other guys like Yao cannot. There's no reason why grown men can't contain themselves on the court just like men at any other job.

To all of you who are you actually posting this is going to take all the "fun" out of the NBA. It's that fun to you all to see Kobe go to a ref and cry and try to influence him after every foul? Or Rasheed Wallace throwing a tantrum on the court? That's what's fun about basketball? If so then Stern has bigger problems with his product if the play on the court isn't entertaining enough and we need players monkey dancing for our enjoyment on the court with their "emotions."

Players do this **** first and foremost because they know that it influences how the officials officiate. It's not really about "emotion" it's not like because most of these guys are black athletes they lack the ability to control themselves. They do it because everyone knows it helps them get calls.

But it's not going to be enforced fairly. So all you all crying about not enough crying will be placated. Particularly this catch-all put in at the end:

How many "excessive inquiries" T's do you think Kobe will get next year? Those are basically reserved for scrubs and guys like Yao who the refs hate.

I have no problem with this rule if it will be enforced equally. Problem is first time someone like Arenas or Stephen Jackson do this they will be punished. The first time someone like Lebron or Kobe do this, the ref will ignore it.

It's just another way a ref could possibly control a game ambiguously because a LOT of players will react when they feel a call is missed and I don't think they'll be giving those techs fairly.

Thanks for the sense bloop. One of the things that ticks me off to no end is the players who excessively whine even when they know a call is correct. They do this solely for the purpose of influencing later calls. Everyone has their own opinion, but that is one of my biggest peeves about the NBA.

I'm not sure if this change will have a positive effect. My preference is for the NBA to make technical fouls into personal fouls. This is one area where FIBA has it right and the NBA has it wrong. Watching how Team USA handled the atrocious, ridiculous FIBA referees shows a better way for the NBA.

Constant player manipulation of refs has got to stop. It has become too big a part of the NBA.

Some of you, please drop the "taking the fun" and "taking the emotion of the freaking game" game nonsense. You are grabbing this and running off the deep end. This isn't aimed at celebrating, it's aimed at whining about fouls/non-fouls. Can you even understand the difference?

If Rasheed was playing this year, he would OBLITERATE his technical fouls record.

Sperm should quit beating around the bush and just fine KG $15,000 before every game. No need to involve the rest of the players in this.

Rasheed Wallace has retired, and they still feel like this is necessary. GTFO.

Playing in any competitive setting elicits emotions. The players should call a T on Bavetta when that old fart makes an offensive foul call and lunges on the damn ground, and then proceeds to do a horizontal Jersey Shore fist pump.

This won't hold up too well.

I guess you missed the last 3-4 years of Kobe being at the threshold of a suspension due to Ts.

All the arguments from players are out in the open and very visible to people watching the game in the area or at home. If its happening every few minutes, it makes the refs look bad, it makes the players look bad, and that makes the league look bad.

The fact is, basketball is a harder sport to referee than any of the others, and there are more 50/50 calls. There are more opportunities for a call to be missed. Players need to accept that. And so do the fans.

If they want to avoid "looking bad," maybe they should do something about the homer TV announcers who b**** about calls constantly, too. Some announcers (Denver's, Portland's and Celtics come to mind) are worse offenders on this than others.

Look we're not talking about guys celebrating, or getting mad at themselves for missing a shot, or anything like that. This rule change is clearly addressed at players who whine and complain to officials and throw temper tantrums because a call doesn't go their way.

I can't believe anybody would honestly want to watch the players act like that. It's childish and pathetic. Just man up, shut up, and play the game.

I'm sure this will alleviate the perception that the NBA is the worst officiated sport amongst the big 3 sports.

I couldn't agree more, especially since I live in the Boston area and I have to hear Tom Heinsohn complaining during every Celtics game that every ref is out to get his team.
