Allright, well I'll get ESPN or Live on Tuesday (looks like ESPN). If it helps, I've never played ESPN (or 2k for you old guys) so I don't know. I've always been mostly concerned with graphics for whatever. Sounds like ESPN is more real, so I'll get it I guess. I hear Live is more 'fun with friends' whatever that means. But, hey, as long as ESPN is fun...
Got this game today, so far its great. I can see that they did improve over last year. The positives so far, no more 2 ft jump shot while you are WIDE OPEN, no more juggling the ball if they throw a cross court pass, the manual alleyhoops are great, and the "isomotion" joystick movement is just like the juke button, but in variations. But again I do have some negatives, I can tell the difference between the 10-Man freestyle movement in Live's in comparison to 2K4 (i REFUSE to call it ESPN) and the defensive stance is gone instead favoring it in auto mode. I have played Live and I still think 2K4 is the best. Live is good for the first few days or so, but 2K4 has longivity and the 24/7 mode is a GENIUS idea. BTW, update on those who are going to get it at Toys R' Us. I managed to get 2 copies of this game (again for me and my cousin) and Live 04 at the Galleria store (westhimer, between Fountainview and Hilcroft) and had around 3-4 copies of both of those games, SSX 3, Simpsons Hit and Run, and most games that have come out recently. Again it is valid on ALL PS2 and XBox games but requires a coupon in the flyer which can be fetched at the front of the stores. I am going to cancel my online Amazon order since it was a backup plan for me just in case they didnt have the games I wanted at the store itself.
Btw, any Xbox Live playas out there, as I said a few pages before, hit me a game on the gamer tag "Dave2000".
for those using the coupon deal. any suggestions for a ps2 owner? i'm going to buy: espn basketball simpson's hit and run ? not sure what to get for the third game. i have live, but would rather have espn. i heard castlevania was alright.
munco, here are some suggestions: SSX 3 - heard nothing but good things about this game and SSX Tricky was a blast WWE Smackdown Here Comes the Pain - of course u have to be a rasslin fan to enjoy this Ninja Turtles - cant go wrong with going back old school with the reincarnation of this game. Heard it plays ALOT like the arcade beatup they had 10 years ago. Castlevania - I heard it was OK but i think that game was meant to be and ALWAYS be a 2D side scrolling game Jax 2 - havent played the first one but the commercials look cool
Thx for the advice Dave2000. I wish Max Payne 2 was out because then it'd be easy. Right now, I'm leaning towards SSX3 or Ninja Turtles for game #3.
alright, i did the toys r us thing for x-box this afternoon, bought, ssx 3, simpsons hit n run, and nba2k4. thoughts on 2k4: graphics are a step up, particularly the faces. as rccola said the animation is very smooth on drives to the baskets and dunks. more collision detection i guess. i really had trouble adjusting for the frist 15 minutes with no defensive stance button but i think i'm alright now. haven't gone into franchise or 24/7 mode yet, been too busy with ssx 3. whoever was asking about games, get ssx3 for sure. it is a blast and it's huge.
i forgot about ninja turtles. my buddy picked that up as one of his 3 games and we played the first 3 levels. it's looks sweet in action but god does it get boring. sure it's a standard beat 'em up but it's not half as good as the arcade game back in the day. i'd love to have that in my house.
Hehe... I saw X Play reviewing this and they made fun of it since it is repetitive. They kept showing Donatello saying something about a corner pocket everytime he hit somebody. It was pretty funny hearing it over and over. It did look kind of cool, but looked like it could be boring. Man, I lost a point in my blocking rating even though I did play last night. I didn't think skills would deteriorate that quickly. I got it back though, plus another 9 points by stuffing the crap out of some scrub over and over. Good times...good times.
Yeah, I've posted mine before but FWIW, it's Maverick 34. I don't have ESPN b-ball yet but I'll probably pick it up next week or so, so I'll definitely play online.
heh heh yeah it's very repetitive. i got the simpsons game(which i haven't even opened yet) and he got turtles, and we figured we could just swap after we beat them. i'll be taking my time with the simpsons though, i think it might be better. i'm going to try and pop in 24/7 mode later tonight but i have a bit of reading to do.
Alright thanks for all the info guys! Tomorrow I'm headed over and will get ESPN, and a pre-order for FIFA. I still need a third game. Maybe SSX3 or Simpsons, but probably something that my brotehr won't use, so maybe SSX. I've only played it once though. I should probably also pick up an online adapter (it's a good thing I got paid this weekend. ).
Any answer to the question about editing jersey #s and other player aspects? I remember in college basketball 2k3 you couldn't edit anything -- I think they made TJ Ford white or something like that...pretty stupid... In EAsports NCAA football 2004, you can edit just about every aspect, from jersey #s to hair and so on...but does ESPN allow this?
Did you guys see the SPortscenter simulation of the upcomming NBA season using espn nba? Had the twolves vs. magic in the finals westernconference finals was twolves vs suns
I picked it up today. The Buy 2 1 Free deal is not good for me. If Max Payne 2 was out, then it would be. I dusted off the Xbox today. I noticed GTA3 and Vice City are going to be on Xbox next week...is this a joke? I thought Rockstar signed a exclusive deal with Sony. I may have to pick that up. My impressions of ESPN NBA 2K4, on the Rockets, I love Piakowski at SG. He's the 3rd leading scorer behind Ming and Francis. The CPU injured Mobley. The other thing I liked is the all rookie team. James can dunk!
