Crap no edit function, i kinda screwed up with the links above, here is the easier way, go to http://dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=322694&perpage=25&pagenumber=8 Its the should be one of the first few posts.
first impressions... i love that you can add your own soundtrack. its tough getting used to not being able to put your guy in a defensive stance; im sure ill get used to it though. the buttons seem a little less responsive to me, but maybe its just me getting used to the game. jump shots arn't released as quick...theyre trying to make it more realisitc here, but i think its just a tad to slow. i really like how in the follow and high cams the camera rotates a lot more quickly than in previous years. no key zoom sucks. iso motion doesnt seem all that great at first...i hope its just a case of mastering it, otherwise ill prob. be sticking to the crossover button. lots of nice little things, ie. the way the players without the ball move, passing is sweeter, basically the players seem more intelligent. thumbs up. hey yao! dunk the ball!
Odd, it was there last night. Trynig adding the game manually and input the promotion code, hopefull that will work.
I got live so i dont think i am going to get espn, my next two purchases are going to be: !. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!!!!! (getting it today!) 2. Ncaa March Madness 2004
Square and X together while pressing the direction towards the hoop/player. (not sure exactly which. Should be the same, I would think.) I haven't really seen any GREAT alley-oops with it though. I've used it mostly in 24/7 with my CAP and Clyde Drexler. I beat him in a game and he gave me his number and now we are an unbeatable team. I just lob it up and he'll put it in against scrubs, though I've only seen him actually dunk it once. All the others are like alley layups. I've been playing the 24/7 mode mostly, surprisingly. Pretty addictive, I think. I'm STILL working on some sliders for the regular game. I've played two games on Superstar and with lowered shooting, and I'm still getting high scored at the half. (plus, I'm comfortably playing...whooping up on my opponent.) I could probably lower the minutes, since I've gotten somewhat realistic %'s now, but I don't like doing that. I like the full 12 minute quarters. Still learning Isomotion, but I got the hang of it. I can make those NBA scrubs look just like scrubs while using it.
Oh crap, I just realized not everyone plays this on the PS2. Square=shoot. X=pass. Sorry for the double post.
What the hell are you supposed to do for iso motion on defense? (seems like a major problem but they just cross me and meet yao who averages 17 blocks a game on all star)
Isomotion on D is just pressing the "take a charge" button at the right time. If done correctly, the defender will get in front of the ballhandler and cut him off, possibly taking the ball away from him or getting a charge called.
So I don't think anyone has fiven a definitive answer. Live or ESPN? You make my decision, folks. Maybe back up your choice with some pros & cons? THX in ADV
Pretty much every videogame site that has reviewd both games has said (with the exception of espn's bizarre games page, although they had diff't reviewer do both games) that ESPN is clearly superior to Live in pretty much every single category, graphics, animation, gameplay, realism etc. I know which one I am getting.
I haven't played ESPN yet, but Live definitely isn't worth shelling out 50 dollars for. Nice to see the updated rosters(esp Ming) but it's too easy to score with the guards and the post game is kind of sucky imo. The rebounding and defense weren't too bad though. Hopefully 2k4 improved on 2k3. I didn't like 2k3 all that much.
No, I play on the PS2. That's why I naturally put X and square down without even thinking of it at first. I haven't played Live, but it seems like ESPN is the way to go with most of the things I've read. That doesn't mean that ESPN doesn't have any cons though. ESPN had too many charges for sure, and too many fouls period, IMO. The camera angles will definitly take some getting used to. The ratings seemed to have been done very lazily...is that a word. I've mentioned that several times, though. Apparently, the names were done badly as well, which is evident with Ming on the back rather than Yao. The commentary is very bad, IMO. If you played 2K3 a lot, you'll get bored....QUICK. I think they had one guys say only one or two lines this year and took the rest from last year while having Tom Tolbert just say what was said last year in his voice. I think the halftime and end game things aren't too bad though. Plus, the no Hakeem issue. However, these are all pretty small issues. The franchise is still solid, though I haven't been able to really check it out. I imagine it is still good since it looks like the same as last years with some improvments. The animations are very, VERY nice. Shooting and body collisions are nice to look at. The isomotion thing seems to be a nice improvement and rewards people who know how to use it. Lead passes, fake passes, alley oops are all easy, IMO, to use. I think the shooting had improved a bit, so no more missed wide open shots, though they may have gone overboard in some cases. I'm trying to lower it a bit with the sliders, which are nice. The jukebox thing is nice. There isn't really anything cheap to abuse that I've noticed so you can't just use a certain move over and over, like I read you could do in Live. All of these would make it good enough in my book, but... THE 24/7 MODE IS AWESOME! I've pretty much played this nonstop. It is addictive trying to improve your player with drills and then challenging NBA scrubs and kicking their butts (take that Mike Dunleavy and Glen Rice!). Kind of freaked me out when I saw Clyde Drexler on one of my challenges, though I whooped him, mostly with luck, and now I got his number and we are good teammates. The special conditions on some of the courts are pretty interesting, such as the giant ball, small ball, and bomb ball. I just now got good, so I have to raise my game to take on Cousin It, AKA Steve Nash. I barely beat him in one of my games, and I have like a 6 or 7 inch advantage on him. The items are pretty nice to get. I saw I got a "Retro Rockets" jersey, and I got real excited only to see it was the pinstripes and not the REAL retro ones. Really pissed my off, excuse my language. One problem I had was that I put on these goggles on my CAP, like I wear in real life (hate contacts), and I accidently put some shades on him that I won and now I can't get my goggles back. Oh well, I ball so much I don't even need to see. Wow...I didn't mean to talk so much about it. As you can tell, I like the game. I would say get it, but it all depends on what you like.
does the ESPN game have vintage uniforms and classic player shoe models? Like the Air Jordan 12? Live 2004 has the road and home uniforms from the rockets championship years.
I don't know. I don't think so, but I haven't really cared enough to check. There are some unlockables and stuff in the 24/7 mode. I don't really pay that much attention to the shoes. I haven't unlocked the retro jerseys you get from winning 5 games with a team since I been mostly working on 24/7 or trying to get the perfect sliders. I don't think I have actually completed a game, let alone win 5. Since the retro jersey I got in 24/7 was the pinstripes, these may be those as well but the may have the other ones as well. Anyone else know?
