There is no button or anyting that you can press to get into that D-stance. I wish there was too. If I find myself in the position I just try to back off a little and just keep in front of the guy if he tries to drive. I have found that, if that happens, that the computer will help a little with my guy (ie: crouching down a little) and even, if I don't press anything but stay infront of him, my guy will automatically get up in his face with an arm up if he tries to shoot over the top.
Can anyone that has the game confirm whether or not you can use the control pad to control the player? Or do you have to use the Analog Stick? I am talking PS2 here. Thanks!
Man, that don't sound good. Basically you play defense by just being in front of your opponent and hoping that the CPU put pressure, crouch on the opponent?!? How are you gonna play good defense by doin this? I rather have full control of the player, but I guess I'm gonna have to get use to it. I'm assuming they did this for two reason: 1. To implement the new momentum thing, so you can't use guys that play poor defense in the real NBA and have him play great D in the game. 2. To have to do less work on D. Personally I don't like this style and will have to get used to it. The offensive side of the game is really good though and I'm sure the more I practice Iso2 the better I will become .
I didn't explain it very well, but it is better than I had described. IMO. I still have to work on D, especially n positioning because if I get out of postion, even a little, the computer takes advantage of it. I really do wish there was a D-stance button though. Inside Drive had it and I always used it to get good position, especially in the post. I was so used to using it (back L button) that when I first played ESPN 2K5, I kept double teaming everyone, lol!
I always buy the ESPN series. This year I bought both live and espn, and I like Live better. On the court graphics are better on ESPN, but as far as dunks and the details in the Toyota Center, live is better. Seems like everytime you dunk on ESPN, seems like a block figure floating. Live dunks are quicker and look realistic.
Haha, I had the same problem b/c I'm so use to the L1 bottom and kept double teaming and it would piss me off. Thats why I ask about the defensive stance. I guess I need to play more to get the feel for it and not use the L1. Question for you, when you try to get and keep yourself in position, do you press the joystick agaisnt your opponent or do you move your guys left or right according to which way the opponent is moving? A lot of people at OS seems to like this way better than the D stance so I hope it just takes some time.
So all I've had time to do so far is play a game of each with it's default settings and normal difficulty. Just a quick test. So far, ESPN is remarkably easier to score. I'm having trouble getting baskets in Live, but not in ESPN. Which, frankly, shocks me. Must do more testing...*mad scientist giggle*...
Trade AI: I don't know how "good" the trade AI is. I got Francis back in a trade for MoT, Howard, and Lue. I also got Emeka for Ward, Mutombo, and a #1 pick. So my franchise starting lineup was Francis Mcgrady JJ Okafor Yao. And my backup PG was Tierre Brown The game is pretty smooth, I feel, on the default level. I used to be able to own the default levels shooting 3s (and hitting at about a 40-50% clip with most shooters) and dunking on fast breaks. The dunks are harder to come by (which is great) and the 3s are actually a little harder, IMO. The only complaint I would have is that when me and my friend play against each other, he ALWAYS uses the hop step/pivot and scores. ALWAYS. The computer will grant me maybe one charge every 10 plays, but it's frustrating how he can hop step with Yao or Howard and have it be a foregone conclusion that he's going to score.
I just move left and right to just stay in front of him, sort of how you would play defense in real life against someone. I back off a couple of steps, but not too far if the player is a decent shooter, and, if he tries to drive, I let him come to me and I'll body him up left or right depending on which way he is trying to go. I have actually realized that doing that and not trying to jump and block everything, then I play better defense. The computer will actually crouch for you somewhat to help you. If he tries to shoot over you, just make sure you are kind of close up on him and stand there. Your guy will stick his hand in his face and make it tougher. Before, I would always jump to block or change the shot but they would make alot of them. Now, they miss more by just sticking my hand up.
It's part of the coaching aspect..if you don't coach right and talk to your players the chemistry is going to go down..that makes sense....also that's not the only way it goes up and down...if you practice and do all the trainings it brings it up as well. It has all aspects of a real team...not just go out and play and rack up stats..
If you have X Box Live and ESPN 2K5 and you want to join a basket season league online... get online and go to Leagues...then find mine...it is called... OS 2K5 I already have the rockets but u can pick anyother other team u want... My X BOX Live Gamer Tag is Drizno
I read somewhere that the AI will normally drive first and pass to the post second. Who were you guarding? I read someone who guarded Wade for a half and Shaq didn't get many shots, but when he guarded Shaq, Shaq some more shots. I guess if you are playing bad D on a guard, they'll try to take you instead of setting up the big man. This is a bit of a problem though. They took out the defensive stance last year. It took me a while to get used to it, but it isn't so bad once you do. And my game still hasn't been shipped yet...
Yeah, I probably should have asked something along those lines. I forgot it is $20, beacuse of that I might get it. Unless it is inferrior. I switched to ESPN football this year because of the price, and I liked it a lot. But I have never really liked ESPN #K's series.
I'll look you up, not sure what team I will be, but I am up for some friendly competition. I haven't been on my XBL in soooo long, but I think I remember my username is Stike.
im going to go out and get it right now from gamestop. Note: if you just want to go arcade style, just get live and save the trouble. ESPN's series is a simulation based series and they caught alot of heat last year for making it so arcadey. If you play Live and really really like i say stick with it because 05 is the same thing except for tweaks and fixes like player spacing and other dumb stuff like that. It's an improved version of 04, but nothing drastic. If Dunk contests mean anything, then get live. Personally, I like simulation games and i could care less if there was a 3pt shootout or not. Ill post impressions when I'm done playing
I played about 3 games of ESPN 2k5 and I think its a much improved game from last year. From a scale of 1-10 I would give it an 8 and its only $20 I say its worth it
