Tech going from the best year in their history to this utter failboat is just an amazing turn of events.

I feel bad for my raider friends.

Not trying to rile up the UH fans/alumni here but would Sumlin be interested in Tech?

He would but not if theres not more dirt on leach. Tech is a joke right now if there is not more to the story. No coach would want to come here if this is all leach did

My understanding is that the trainer and possible another player were to ensure that James did not leave the room.

It can still be false imprisonment even if you are detaining somebody in the Presidential suite at the freaking Waldorf. The fact that it was air conditioned matters not at all legally.

If this is what happened, I believe that we cannot have a high profile employee at a state institution breaking state law. Period.

If Sumlin turned down Cinci, I'm pretty sure he'd turn down Tech.

Wow, can't believe they fired Leach. Sumlin is the first name that comes to mind as a possible replacement.

Sumlin turned down an interview at Kansas, I can't see Tech, same type of program. I only think he would have interest in A&M, OU, or Texas in Big 12. I will throw dart at board and say Art Briles ends up in Lubbock.

    Big East vs. Big 12

Im sure he'd want to coach at a Big 12 school

Yes, I'm aware that Cincinatti is in the Big East and Tech is in the Big 12.

I don't see much difference between the two schools in terms of what they offer a coach right now.

Other than Tech having Gerald Meyers, which looks like the biggest negative you could ever imagine.

Seems this is a B12 epidemic... Terrence Murphy slams Franchione now:

    http://outofbounds.nbcsports.com/2009/12/post-85.html.php

Former Texas A&M receiver says Franchione abused players

In the wake of serious player-abuse allegations against Kansas' Mark Mangino and Texas Tech's Mike Leach, the former which cost the coach his job, and the latter which still may, former Texas A&M receiver Terrence Murphy unveiled a bombshell of his own recently. In a post on his Facebook page, Murphy -- considered by many to be the best receiver in Aggies history -- said that his coach, Dennis Franchione, was guilty of similar abuses. And that Franchione had been doing it from "the day he arrived at A&M."

Franchione coached A&M from 2003-07. Murphy was there from 2001-04.

UPDATE: Link to video following the jump.

From Murphy's Facebook page, via SportsbyBrooks:

It is amazing that two coaches in the Big 12 are getting negative press for mis-treating players on their football teams. WOW, Coach Fran treated players at A&M like this the day he arrived at A&M.

Now that I am a man, looking back it hurts my heart to know how many of my teammates will never come back to A&M because of those antics, and how many kid's life (sic) were altered because of it.

Guess it did not happen to a football legend's son, so it was ignored. ESPN brought back bad memories. I fault myself for not stepping up as the leader of the team and saying something.

In a rather ironic twist, Franchione is now a color commentator for ESPN; the same network which employs Craig James. James' son, Adam, is at the center of a controversy involving Leach, who was suspended by Texas Tech on Monday while officials investigate allegations that the coach used abusive methods during practice.

    Floodgates open? We'll see.

Murphy was a two-time 1st Team All-Big 12 selection at A&M, (wide receiver and kick returner), and three-time Academic All-Big 12. A second-round pick for the Packers in 2005, his career ended after only three games due to a spinal condition.

This is going to be a trend across the country.

The world of college sports is pretty disgusting in terms of how student athletes are treated and duped sometimes.

Start giving them leverage and watch this spread across a lot of sports.

Location and access to talent would be the main two. It depends a lot on the history of the coach. I know nothing about Sumlin's background, but if his connections are in Texas, then recruiting is much easier at a Texas school. The main thing Tech would offer over Cinci is that it's in Texas, so you're recruiting the same basic territory and same basic kids.

Tech is more attractive than Baylor.

    UH lost Briles to baylor.

I'd have to to think Sumline would listen. Didnt he rejected Cincy after talking to them for 2 days via phone?

It will be interesting to see where this goes ... I think there is a fine line between strong discipline (which probably goes on at most colleges and most kids think they are being abused) and unacceptable discipline (i.e. breaking the law and falsely imprisoning a student in a closet). My guess is there is going to be a lot of players that think they were wronged that were really just given standard football treatment.

Briles was much older than Sumlin, and Baylor threw a boat load of money at him. It wasn't a shocker that he would bite on money. It was a shocker, however, how poorly he handled it.

"Listening" and "interviewing" are two different things. Almost any coach would be smart to "listen".

Do I think it is impossible Sumlin could go? No. Do I think it is likely? No. I wouldn't put him as a front runner by any means.

I read an account that said they were there to make sure he didn't sit down or lay down and that Leach told him if he left he was off the team.

If that's the case, is that imprisonment from a legal perspective?

This is horrible. A sad day for the Raider land and a sad day for college football really.

    Sounds about right.

Myers is using this to wedge Leach out, like he wanted all along.

Leach is doing himself a favor, getting out of a bad situation, too.

That AD sounds like a power hungry nutjob.
