Hmm... if some coach stuck me in that situation when I had a serious injury I would shut up. I would also beat his ass.

I actually think Ruffin McNeil might fire up the players a bit more than Mike does for the game

Leach had it coming...he's a nut case. I think the black v ersion of the pillsbury doughboy will do a better job of coaching Tech in the Alamo Bowl anyway.

I'll always despise TT for beating us in the last second.

These coaches are getting a bit of the God complex going.

    Weak of Leach if true.

Yeah but it's not fire worthy. I think Tech wanted to find a way of getting rid of Leach without pissing off the base.

Really? Why? Just let him go to Washington last year then. Tech loves that clown.

how is that not fire worthy? im all for coaches getting on players, and i think players now a days need some tough love. but locking a player up in a closet because he doesnt wanna practice after a concussion? thats ridiculous, concussions arent something you screw around with.

    Mike Leach or Craig James.

I'm going to side with Leach.

They're Techies. They invented everything, including concussions.

Craig James, Soccer Dad, doing his best to kill two Texas football programs in his lifetime.

This stuff doesn't sound egregious at all. With the sunglasses thing, it was probably about the attitude James was bringing when he was walking around the field rather than the sunglasses themselves. He's a wealthy kid, probably gets all the chicks he wants, and feels entitled. That attitude is probably why Leach thought he needed some humbling and what better way to humble a cocky kid then to make him sit with extraneous equipment while the rest of the team goes about their business. If this is all there is, I don't see it. Mangino? Definitely... but this doesn't seem to be close to that.

Leach needs some humbling, too. How much, I don't know.Off the top of my head, I'm thinking multigame suspension.

He is definitely not one of my favorite guys, but I have a hard time thinking this is suspension worthy.

Similar stuff and worse came our way in high school.

Impression i got from sports talk radio (note: this includes Rome so there's some caveats there) the Tech administration hate Leach holding them hostage every off season but they also know what he means to that program (and what might happen to their jobs if they don't at least try keep him around). To me, this just gives them a way out.

As other had said, it's more likely more about attitude. He isn't also telling the kid to play with concussion, he made him sit in a closet, what is wrong with that? And I'm not a techie, look in the VY threads, I'm a horn.

So, I guess the Tech administrators could use this as an excuse to not pay $800k, but it would still cost them more to terminate the contract.

    From the same article...
Unless worse stuff comes out, this is a family feud and nothing more.

(Please note... I have no love for Tech or Leach.)

i'm actually neutral in this whole thing. i'm from ohio, not a fan of either texas or texas tech. if it was about this kids attitude, so what? you dont think that happens everywhere? isnt that what coaches sell recruits on, "come to my school you'll be a big shot, get all the ladies" yet leach is getting upset that hes walking around with a big shot mentality? is leach jealous? leach is making millions for himself by using kids, whats he have to be jealous about?

i will say this, obviously if this is being exaggerated, leach shouldnt lose his job. but i still question whats the deal with isolating the kid in a room? throw him out of practice, send him to his dorm. if the kid is such a trouble maker, then you suspend him and tell him hes not playing. that should get most kids to cooperate.

just my feeling on the whole thing. again, im all for tough love, but this tactic seems odd to me

I would say coaches need to held accountable at all levels. Players shouldn't be punished for being injured. If the punishment was for attitude, Leach needs to be equally punished for attitude. An hr of game time for every hr James was put in solitary confinement should be the bare minimum.

The James kid (and his family) could've waited until after the bowl game to come out with this. He really did a big disservice to the rest of his teammates IMO.

Suposely James wants to transfer to SMU to get more PT. Leach does not allow players to transfer in conference or in state (unless its D-2). Hence the kid throwing a fit and his millionaire dad getting involved.

ESPN is blowing this up and quite frankly its bad journalism that Mark May-Lou Holtz said Leach should be fired when the details of the story are still sketchy and didnt even mention that Adam James is the son of their co-worker Criag James. Just complete BS on their part....

Just another reason to hate espn...

Another question is why would SMU take on James his father basically destroyed that program?

I stick by stance rich kid crying to rich/famous daddy...

    Baically espn vs Leach.
