See, this is what I don't get from this board. It's a constant bash fest with McGrady, basically rating him lower than crap, but we expect to get a teams two best players for him. Ellis and Biedrins are the Warriors franchise cornerstones, I live in California and watch every Warriors game, there's no chance they trade Biedrins or Ellis ALONE for McGrady, let alone both of em. Of course we'd do it, it's a no-brainer. The thing is McGrady's value sucks, he's 30 years old, has TOO large an expiring contract, and has too many injury problems. Realistically, we'll only get an upgrade if we take on a ridiculously bad contract (which I'd consider) or just bad contracts/more expirings in general. That's why I think, seeing what McGrady has at least until the deadline is the best option we have instead of trading him before the season ever starts, because there's no chance we get these type of fantasy packages.
Do you mind, friend? We're trying to be positive and optimistic here. These trades work on ESPN's Trade Machine. Why couldn't they work in real life?
Actually PER has nothing to do with success or failure, just a measure of effeciency, which was what was being discussed.
Why do you like Maggette so much? He has been a Cancer everywhere. . INCLUDING DUKE!! [where he did not start] Rocket River
maggette is a beast. we could only hope to get him. anybody who thinks he isn't fantastic is smokin crack
I think his style of game fits on the Rockets...he moves without the ball, is an efficient scorer and gets to the FT line. All things the Rockets need. DD
I don't think a style of me first then everyone else reallt fits the bil... Im tired of the injury prone players and maggette is just that.. Chilcutt
I trust there's a reason SA didn't offer "enough" to get Maggette, and I also trust this guy whom you probably know (Buck Harvey) http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/columnists/buck_harvey/MYSA011607_01D_1Dbuck_2bd6c14_html.html Now, after all the things you ripped t-mac for, you want this guy? So basically you have to throw out all your criticism of t-mac being selfish, a locker room problem, his injuries, and being a ball hog. You have to throw all of that out, because, you are advocating getting a player who is actually WORSE than T-mac in those areas. And a worse JUMP SHOOTER. But hey, he gets to the rim!
Assuming your other starters are Yao, Artest, Brooks, and Scola, you desperately need a guard who can make effective entry passes to Yao and can create open shots for the rest of the guys. Brooks is an instant offense player, but he's not a distributor or entry passer, and you want Artest dominating the rock as little as possible. That requirement plays right into imo McGrady's best strengths. But if you assume you're not going to get a 100% or even 90% McGrady back, you need someone else with similar skills to help run the offense. That guy definitely isn't Maggette, who brings nothing in terms of court awareness or passing acumen.
Agreed, if that is all you are looking for, but to me Maggette just changes the way the offense flows. I am not worried about getting Yao the ball, I am looking for guys who can attack the rim when Yao is fronted. I think getting Yao the ball is difficult because of Yao's limitations, therefore you need guys that can take advantage of the attention Yao gets and are not necessarily focused on getting him the ball. This is where I would see Maggette effective...a better Von Wafer. DD
the big ex-factor is how other players will play in Rick's system. A good example is QRichardson. That guy is trash without D'Antoni, but with his system, he can drop 30 points a night. We don't know how well Maggette would be in this system.
Corey Maggette is just horrible. I don't know why guys are even wasting their time talking about him. Any team that trades for him would be a fool. Guys on here get upset when McGrady shoots and shoots bricks just imagine how they will feel when they see CM shoot. The only thing good about him is that once he passes the ball ( that's if he ever decides 2 ) he cuts to the basket which is always the right thing 2 do. Luther Head was great at that. The only bad thing about Head was he's a SG in a PG's body.
The problem is that this team is built around Yao. You need to have guys who can hit jumpers when you have a very dominant post presence. A guy who drives and gets to the rim is great, but keep in mind that Maggette is not a passer, he will take the ball and drive but it will not help the teammates out. That doesn't make sense in a Yao-centric offense. What you need with a big man like Yao, and in Rick system, are passers and jump shooters, hopefully a combo of both. Cutters are great, but geez, you don't need to get a guy just because he cuts to the basket. Maggette is not a Von Wafer but better. Von Wafer is going to be an excellent 3 point shooting threat. Von Wafer has upside and is younger. Von Wafer is not injury prone. Von Wafer has carved out a place for himself in the NBA by clawing through thick and thin, not playing on perrenial losers. Von Wafer has more playoff experience then Corey Maggette. Now that's scary.
I don't trust Von with his low bball IQ, lack of D, and immaturity. The dude is like 25 yrs old. As JVG says, you are what you are and I don't think he's going to mature past the following.
