The same opinion that picked the Nuggets over the Lakers right? Or do you admit you were wrong on that one too? What is your source that he has burned the bridge? Or is it just your hunch? Opinion based on hunch or a fact?
IMO: Morey will wait and see what kind of recovery McGrady makes. I don't think the organization is in a big hurry to trade him just yet.
You could be right, it would depend on how recovered he is, the team can not afford to wait on him, and go too far into the season with $23 million on the bench. This team is fairly close to the top now, and needs players to get them over the hump. If Tmac has little chance of making a full recovery THIS year, then I expect them to trade his contract. If he is expected to be ready by training camp or soon after they might see how he fits in....but if what Doc said about locker room strife is true, then I believe the team will move him regardless. DD
T-Mac will be back, ie make a full recovery. They still need to trade him though, he doesn't fit. He's been unhappy about Adelman's direction for two seasons now. That's not going to change.
I think locker room strife in general is overrated. I don't think anyone really hates Mcgrady. I'm pretty sure everyone will forget about last year, if McGrady comes back strong and the team keeps up their winning ways. I agree with everything you wrote about the McGrady timetable. If he's got nothing to give the Rockets this year, they should try to move him.
I don't see Morey or Les waiting on a maybe recovery. If a good deal is offered for Tracy and parts, I don't see them hesitating in pulling the trigger.
I agree, I don't think his game translates very well unless he is willing to move off the ball...A LOT...and guys with bad knees tend to move less. I hope he makes a decent recovery and we can trade him for more complimentary players that fit into this current team. Clearly the Lakers are the class of the league, but we are not that far behind them....just need a piece or two to close the deal. We have a good mix of young and veteran players with a great work ethic, we need to build upon the guys that got them to the 2nd round. DD
So when other players successfully recover from microfracture (as you keep bringing up), its relevant to McGrady. Yet when its pointed out that these other players have been younger and their work ethic has never been questioned.......its irrelevant? ok.... So what would you rather believe? What Morey tells the media? Or what you see with your own eyes? Do you think its conceivable that Morey would exaggerate to the media for McGrady's benefit? I do. Unless they're parting ways, it's not prudent for a GM to call out his highest paid player. Now, lets talk about what you see with your own eyes. Did you see him start the season out of shape? Did you see him still have problems on the court in February (when the surgery occurred in the prior month of May)? Are you aware that the arthroscopic surgery McGrady had was the simplest form and generally considered to be routine? I like how every time you can't counter one of my arguments, it suddenly becomes irrelevant and therefore unworthy of a rebuttal. There's a difference between guarding Ray Allen/Brandon Roy and guarding Ronnie Brewer... You have no reason to believe that he cant get back to his 2008 playoff form? Are you aware he just had microfracture surgery? So you're giving McGrady a pass on his poor defense because he's not the one who usually guards the opposing swingmen? Even as Mcgrady-excuses go, that one is pretty weak. Out of curiosity, when we're talking about McGrady's performance (both offensively and defensively) in Boston, why do you think that Yao, Rafer, and Artest are relevant? Yup, when you don't rehab properly, injuries tend to stay injured. Uh no, he's actually not. He runs the pick and roll. When the secondary defender briefly flashes out, is that what you consider to be a "double team"? For the record, I'm assuming you're referring to the 2008 season. Are you in fact talking about the 2002 season? Underrated? Maybe to the national media, but definitely not on clutchfans. And yes, Artest takes a lot of ill-advised jumpers, but there's actually 2 reasons why I'm more critical of McGrady: 1. Artest plays solid defense; McGrady does not. 2. Artest makes less than half of what McGrady makes. In terms of value, Artest was a steal and McGrady ripped us off. Not done properly? The arthroscopic work he had is considered routine maintenance. And the doctors said it was successfully completed. Yes, maybe it was reinjured, but wouldn't that be part of "not rehabbing properly"? Came back too early? Based on the normal recovery times for arthroscopic surgery, he came back far too late. And if my thought processes were truly a "ridiculous flow of logic", then surely you'd be able to discredit them instead of calling it "irrelevant" or hearsay and then dismissing it without countering it. So you believe that it was a huge coincidence that Les withdrew from trade talks on the same day that McGrady chose to announce surgery? I find it more believable that Stephen Smith contacted Les beforehand to give him a warning about the story that Smith was about to break. Isn't it plausible that an ESPN analyst would extend this professional courtesy to a team owner? Calling me "kiddo" wasn't meant to be an insult? How many non-familial uses of "kiddo" can you think of where it's not meant to be an insult? Like I said before, my arguments are based on taking the known facts and making educated guesses. Your arguments consist of either calling my assertions irrelevant or, in a twist of irony, using irrelevant excuses (i.e. its ok that McGrady played poor defense b/c defense is usually Battier's job and he was injured).
It's the business smart route to take. Bad to trade t-mac now when other teams will use the uncertainty to discount his value. Best thing would be fore him to make a recover and put up some 30 point games. I predict he will not be traded before the end of the year. Most likely, it will happen in January, and be done very quietly. It will only be done if the Rockets are not on a 60-game win pace either. If that happens, all bets are off.
LOLOLOL and yet you want or think Corey Maggette is best fit for this team.. Your post are funny.. Its funny how everything you say or said about McGrady can be said about anyone you think is best for this team or even our other leader. I don't understand or know why guys are so quick to trade a player because he had a down year and was hurt. For all that the Rockets might as well trade everyone that is injury prone and rebuild. Hell lets trade Yao. He has serious injury problems. He is on the decline and he isn't even 30 yet. Last but not least you and other posters who say trade McGrady would be horrible G.Ms. Your going to trade a huge expiring contract?? Why?? You think your going to get equal value?? NO your not!!!! Even if you do trade him who is to say that whoever they get in return will fit here.
How do you know or what makes you think teams are going to discount his value? Hint. Economic recession.
Maggette is a very efficient player who scores 20ppg, moves without the ball and attacks the basket. Is he equal to a healthy Tmac? No, but he fits the team better. And, I don't think you need equal value, you just need guys who fit in better with a Yao oriented team...hard working guys who are willing to play within the system and not complain about their touches, and the ball being taken away from them. Is Maggette the perfect choice? No, but he would be a nice addition off the bench to this Rocket's team.....and he is healthy...... There are lots of options out there, the only reason I toss Corey's name out there is that he is probably available....and you could get him and another player for Tmac....maybe a backup center like Beidrens etc.....which makes the Rockets team stronger overall.... If trading Yao made the team better then by all means.....but he is probably not going to be traded because of his business value, so I try to deal in reality. Just make the team stronger....get value for the $23 million.....what is so hard to understand about that? Hoping a 30 year old wing player with a questionable work ethic is finally going to get healthy and work hard is not very smart, just deal him for the right deal...it will probably work out for the good of both Houston and Tmac... DD
I am pretty much done with you. You can't seem to get it out of your head that I am arguing McGrady can do no wrong. I was simply stating that DD's list was an exageration. Some of the stuff you said was true, it was however irrelevent to my point, thus I labeled it so.
None of what I said was an exageration at all, the evidence is out there for all to see, but what you read from that to gather your opinion leads to a different conclusion. Just saying it is an exageration does not make it so. You can tell whom is looking at this with their hearts, and whom is looking at this in a business like manner.....Tmac is a declining asset, get what you can for him..... DD
Back at ya teach..errr....kiddo ! Come to Austin and you can get a real world lesson in asset management. DD
DD will use whatever tool he needs to to make his case, he even resorted to trying to bait me by calling me my old nick. Exaggeration, bait, outright fabrications. It's very good to see you and others see this in a sensible business manner and not be so quick to dump t-mac at a fire-sale price because of the dislike for him. You've made some great posts on this thread, so I hope you keep it up.
