Would we be so desperate as to actually trade for Melo, knowing he'd leave?

I wouldn't be stunned if this was something the writer assumed. I also wouldn't be stunned (although I don't necessarily believe it, and will never know anyway) if this were misdirection on Morey's part.

I'd bet more on Morey making moves for Favors and Murphy (and/or) Iguodala, with practically anyone on the roster up for grabs.

Crist why rent him he's aint staying. But if we can rid the team full of losers then what is the harm. You know losers that have that losing mentality and used to losing like Lee/Miller/Hill. If we can get him for cheap fine, but i would not throw the barn and kitchen sink at him like Brooks/Martin/Yao.

If this goes down, the Rockets will be lucky to win 20 games after Melo leaves the season after. I'll pass.

Maybe we have too many players as it is. A trade would cut into the Rotation
and then Trading Melo won't leave us barren.

Cause he won't just walk at the end of the season . . he will be signed and traded at worse

Rockets i'm sure view him as an expiring contract then any thing. One that will walk to NY. This will be like a salary dump imo. And we will lose our picks.

Yea a S&T will net somebody decent, but ain't good enough to carry the burden. Another one of those kind of players.

Sure, what the hell do we got to lose...

If he walks, we get his expiring and blow it up completely for a rebuild i guess

A S&T would have to include players from NY hint more losers. And Carmelo can just walk anyways instead of going to a gutted roster.

How you know if he would be signed and traded at worse? He could just leave like Lebron did. If he says he wants NY next summer, what can we really get from them? I don't think we could just rob for talent again. They have no picks. C. Anthony wouldn't want to go to a team with lesser talent on it too. So he would just sign straight up with them.

That's fine with me. Time to do something risky. If it fails then we blow the team up and start over. Right now we are a team with too many spare parts and no direction. Tmac is gone so we have no real playmakers anymore. We are only built for mediocrity, at best, as things stand and moreys other plans for acquiring a superstar have failed.

Time to throw the hail mary and hope for the best.

The Pros: We'd get a top 10 player, shed some salary from our roster for next year, and maybe still salvage a good season if yao returns healthy. And Melo resigns with us.

The cons: yao can't return, we miss playoffs (or lose early), Melo ultimately leaves, and we lose lots of our assets.

IMO, even while the 2nd scenario is a risk it may be worth it to go after Melo, as Morey has proven he can replenish assets (role players) with the blink of an eye, and if Melo does stay it is a home run, if not, oh well, not like we blew up anything special...I'd say go for it.

But we're barely on pace to win 20 games this season. How do you suggest we better ourselves? We don't exactly have millions to spend under the cap either, even with yao gone.

Id rather win 20 and have a chance at a #1 pick than win 40-45 games and always be stuck in the middle.

If this goes down this will indicate rebuild time. We already know he'll walk or be S&T to NY. If somehow, he stays then great, but moving Brooks/Martin/Yao i would not do so. I think his contract can help the team though. So next season Carmelo will turn into Gallinari/Randolph/Felton/Turiaf (maybe). If not, it can turn into Gasol if they don't resign Yao.

That is the best way to become the Houston version of the LA Clippers I have seen yet. He walks and DM gets to go out and find more bench warmers to insure this team stays average. Can't wait to see the GARM when that happens. What will it take for you guys get it through your thick skulls that Melo wants to play in New York? Wife is a model in NEW YORK. Jay-Z is in NEW YORK. Houston ain't NEW YORK.

Get him and do it now. If we are to salvage this season we have to do something drastic and as long as we are only giving up guys like Jeffries, Hill, and Taylor then this is an easy decision. We have so much young talent it isn't going to make any difference one way or another, we are actually hurting our young guys right now with not enough playing time because of how deep the roster is. We need significant improvements on our positions and this would be one.

I know Melo wears Jordans but I didn't know he was actually close to the guy. I know Jordan likes competitors so, if true, I might actually want Melo.
