Fortunately, LA's stubbornness (not that i disagree with their posture) is our gain. The choices for Dwight in the offseason are pretty limited. If he walks, Houston would have to be at the top of the list. Only LA would have the monetary incentive. I suppose Brooklyn could sign him outright if they didn't care about luxury tax hell ...right?

Have you heard of the salary cap? Unless DH willing take huge salary cut, he not signing with Brooklyn.

The one thing that bothers me about Josh Smith is his 50% FT percentage. No one should overlook this. I love his game, but winning means hitting your FTs. If they do trade for him, they should be prepared to put someone else in during crunch time.

82games seems to indicate that he's a so-so player in the crunch and definitely not a superstar in the crunch. His FG% drops and his W/L isn't great, but good coaching can overcome this statistic.

Did not want to make a new thread to ask this so...

If we stand pat and make no moves at the deadline for either big star or even key role player and we miss the playoffs....would your opinion of Morey change???

just a question not a rant or bashing him

Not at all. If there isn't a move worth making, I have faith that Morey will do the right thing and stick with what we have. A stupid GM would feel compelled to do something for the sake of doing something.

Getting JSmoove will increase the chance of getting Dwight tremendously.

Forget any trades for Josh Smith, after looking for DPOY article, it seems the author considers Josh Smith to be Chicago Bulls POWER FORWARD and not Atlanta Hawk
or maybe he is a precog and knows whar will happen at the tradelines or he smokes something a lot people also would like to have

He is a top tier defender and IF he could ever get past his stupid urges to take terrible shots then he would be awesome to have....but he won't and you just have to accept that. I have no idea how McHale would work him into the offense, but he should never shoot outside of 15 feet.

If he wants max, I'd rather pay for two 2nd tier players to help deepen the bench and spread the risk. i.e. Millsap @ $8.6M AND Redick @$6M

I disagree with that authors conception of a max contract - even with the new bargain agreement, a max contract is not just for first tier players. In the NBA single players are so much more important than say in the NFL. So even some second tier players will demand a max contract.

The question is: is Smith a second tier player? I´d say a borderline second tier player and thus not really worth the max (more like 12-13 million per year). He basically is a gamble: if he can keep his athleticism, fix his shot selection and is willing to work on his game, he might very well be worth the max. If his athleticisim is declining, he continues to take boneheaded shots and sits on his butt with a big contract he wouldn`t be worth it (might even become one of the worst contracts in the leage).

And probably the answer is somewhere in the middle.

That being said - a team like the Rockets has to gamble. They did on T-Will, on Thabeet, on Flynn, on Asik, on Lin and on Harden - and the list goes on and on. With every move several experts were convinced, that we overpayed or the risk was not worth it. Morey might very well decide, that Smith is worth the gamble (a Smith with a low post game and without taking stupid shots could be enough to make us borderline contenders...) - and if he does I`ll be excited. Or he might decide, that Smith is too high a risk and a contract, that might set us back for years and look elsewhere - and I´ll be cool with that as well.

After about 20 years of being a Rockets fan I learned one thing: in Morey I trust.

No. Getting him either at the deadline or via FA next season all but prevent the Rockets from getting Howard. The only realistic chance is getting both to agree to come here in the offseason: Howard as a FA signing, and then Josh Smith as S&T.

    4. Hickson to Houston

Portland and Houston two normally active teams, have both been pretty quiet. But a Hickson deal makes a lot of sense.

The Rockets are supposedly looking to add some offensive rebounding, but don't want to limit their cap-space for next year. Hickson, on an expiring contract and one of the league leaders in rebounds, would fit that nicely.

For the Blazers, a Hickson deal makes sense because the playoffs are looking out of the picture and Hickson doesn't look to be in the long-term plan.

The Rockets have lots of minor assets and expiring contracts that could get the deal done.

(the majority of votes said JSmoove would end up in Milwaukee)

For a realistic hope, the Rockets need to trade for Dwight and his Bird rights. A package based around Lin & Asik with filler keeps the cap room.

If they then S&T for Smith using that cap space they could even have the MLE to play with.

Completely agree. Asik is doing a great job at Center. We need to find a way to get Kevin Love.

This is what i have been saying! An exception could be Milwaukee. If they lose both of their guards they will be a bad team.

That's the last thing we need. Enough with the role players. Lets get one good guy over infinity scrubs.
