been there, done that. make chinese government look extremely evil, suspicious, and tyrannical. check, make korean people look like they're going to end the earth, check, call north korea part of axis of evil, check, kill all crackers, not yet.
what are you talking about next? they already did that. i forgot the name of the movie. but i've seen that already.
Whats your deal with crackers? Youve got some anger deep down inside you. Chill out. Besides, what you are displaying is racism. Big difference between that and stereotyping.
dnaslam, not all Americans feel that way. That "axis of evil" is Bush speak. If you want someone that is NOT very worldly or open-minded, look no further than Bush Junior.
A "stereotype" of white people is that they cant jump. Its been all over the place for years. Have you missed out on this stereotype? There you go...stop acting like white people are never stereotyped against.
no, what i'm displaying is sarcasm intended to display how a simple song like ching chong yang wah ah so, can be racist. if you're a cracka, and you know it, clap your hands. if you're a cracka, and you know it, clap your hands. if you're a cracka, and you know it, and you really want to show it, and if you're cracka, and you know it, clap your hands. stereotypes-racism, cause-effect
dnaslam, you're missing the point I was trying to make. I was making fun of Hollywood. It doesn't matter if they put ONE movie out already. The point is that that type of "bad guy" label is dying. Although, they might want to.
well, how come on basketball courts, i've never seen anybody dis a white person based on that stereotype? maybe because only one group really stereotyped white people as not being able to jump and that was black people. not everybody else believes that. and even though some basketball scouts actually believe the stereotype is true, many viewers have seen white people play well in multiple sports, hockey, baseball, football, and even basketball(brent barry). so where is this so called stereotype? nobody says white people can't play certain sports. so i think you're exaggerating.
dnaslam, but the you LET IT affect you. You'll be jumping to conclusions about people for the rest of your life. You're just waiting to call people "racist." That's not constructive.
Dude!! A stereotype doesnt mean that every single person of that race abides by this "rule". Of course you will find white people that can jump. Or Asians that dont own a laundry mat. Or Indians that dont own a gas station. Or Iranians that arent terrorists. But, these stereotypes do exist in the real world. Thats the way it is. Dont take offense to it. And Im sure there are asians with normal sized wieners too
"White men can't jump" IS a stereotype, but there is some truth to it. Regardless if you show me Brent Barry.
Sorry, I gotta be picky here. Hockey doesnt involve jumping. Baseball doesnt involve jumping. Football involves some jumping, but the number of white people at these positions is very small in number.
i know what you're thinking. you're thinking anytime a person brings up a racial topic. it's like, oh here we go again, more b!tching or whatever. i know there are some people who are oversensitive. but i'm not one of them. i don't get mad at every stereotype people bring up to me. like because i'm asian, when i go to a movie theater, a black person, once asked me for directions to the jet li movie? i just told him that i was going to see a different movie and he was shocked. what he might also be shocked by is that the majority of asian americans don't watch martial arts movies, but since he didn't say that intentionally as a joke to dis me, i didn't get mad at that. when i was in first grade, somebody said to me, who do you think you are? bruce lee? i was like who? cause i had never heard of bruce lee in my entire life. i was born in the US and i wasn't an immigrant, but my parents who were immigrants still don't know who he is. so i know a lot of what people perceive is ignorant. stereotypes aren't racist unless people use it intentionally to dis you.
exactly. So, when you see a comedy or a tv show that is trying to display some humor, dont take offense to it. And when someone is trying to get in your face and start a fight with you, then that is when stereotyping can get offensive. Thats when you could show some anger.
but that still doesn't excuse the media from stereotyping people. because people do look to the media for facts. can you honestly tell me a newspaper or magazine printing stereotypes doesn't have an effect on idiots who believe in stereotypes? there are morons out there who take jokes literally and use it as if it were fact. whether it's intentional or unintentional, if the media says something politically incorrect and misinforms people. they should be responsible for what they say and admit their bias.
Ignore those type of people. Sometimes you can blame it on poverty, lack of education, even youth (teenagers just being teenagers). Sometimes minorities walk around with chips on their shoulders because they have been persecuted by whites, or whomever. So, they lash out at other minorities and make matters worse. My mother is a social worker for Mexican gang members. Self-hate (some call it Machismo, or pride) can feed on itself.
stereotypes do make people very ignorant though. i'm only 6 foot 3 and a white person once walked up to me and said, you're the biggest chink i've ever seen. that's the dumbest thing i ever heard. i know that height issue has been exaggerated because of the immigration laws that prevent more chinese people from coming into this country. the majority of chinese people in america are cantonese and they happen to be shorter than most chinese people. immigration still goes through hong kong and the british put up barbed wire to prevent mainland chinese from getting into hk making it more difficult to immigrate. as for minorities attacking minorities, i know what you mean because i've had relatives call up in the middle of the night telling me how some other minority group burned down their business because some other minorities jump to conclusions that you hate them just because you talked back when they dis them based on a stereotype for no reason, and violence comes from that. that's why i say certain stereotypical portrayals shouldn't be allowed on tv or in the media, because it has an effect on how some idiots think.
