""But as we know, when you compete for four or five years in a row, when you throw everything at it -- which I was totally behind -- this is what happens in any sport."

    He was totally behind?
"The Warriors spent $49.63 million in penalties over the last five seasons, while even the small-market Thunder spent $33.73 million. There was no excuse for Houston to not open up the checkbook. This is a franchise located in the fourth-biggest metro area in the U.S. that has had a superstar in the prime of his career."

"This refusal to spend money became farcical once Alexander sold the team to Tilman Fertitta in 2017. Fertitta spent so much money ($2.2 billion) to purchase the Rockets that he may not have had the liquidity to go into the red to build a title contender. Houston was a laughingstock around the league for the amount of juggling it had to do to stay under the tax. The best example came at the trade deadline last season, when Morey used a future first-round pick to shed the salaries of Brandon Knight and Marquese Chriss. There was no basketball reason for the move. It was just done to cut costs. It’s not that Knight and Chriss would have helped the Rockets. But there were certainly a lot of better things that Morey could have used that pick for."

"Houston also spent that season in a bizarre staring contest with Danuel House Jr. House is the kind of diamond in the rough that Morey routinely uncovered in Houston, an undrafted free agent on a two-way contract who would become a starting-caliber wing. The problem was that players on those deals can spend only 45 days with the NBA team during the season before their contracts have to be converted. Money in Houston was so tight that Morey had to send House back to the G League when he wouldn’t sign a below-market long-term deal. He replaced House with two players he signed off the street (Gerald Green and Kenneth Faried) before bringing him back right before the playoffs. It’s not like House was asking for the world. He signed a three-year, $11 million contract in the offseason. But even that was more than Morey could offer at the time."

"It’s hard to believe that Morey’s departure was Fertitta’s decision simply because so few GMs can run a team as well as Morey on such a tight budget. Morey’s ability to sustain winning over such a long period without dipping into the tax may never be surpassed."

"Either way, his time in Houston had evidently run its course. Two of his lieutenants—Gersson Rosas and Monte McNair—left to run teams of their own in the past year, while D’Antoni walked away from the team when his contract expired at the end of the season. The Rockets won’t have much future flexibility after emptying the cupboard of future assets to acquire Westbrook"

Yep...Went all in, with 90 percent of our moves to cut cost at an embarassing rate for a franchise generational talent who loved houston, for a team close to the finals. More snake oil and pointing fingers

yeah, he really needs to cut the nonsense

he was totally behind ducking the LT, competing for a championship was secondary

Does he think people are dumb? We all saw his actions, and they paint a different picture than his words. Tilman, just stop it

Rockets twitter taking a break from slandering Tilman to dunk on Bill Simmons is the healing the TL and Clutchfans needed, lol

What's even funnier is the Clutchfans sect that will hate Tilman no matter what are agreeing with the enemy Bill Simmons. You hate to see it.

"Others include "be plappy" (play happy at work, no matter what is going on in your personal life)"

""I'm a fighter," said Fertitta, who has owned the franchise for two seasons. "That's my culture, and I think the longer that I own this team, they're going to pick up more of my culture. We had [the Warriors]. We should have stepped on their throat the other night and cut their throat. It's not, 'Let's make a few shots and win.' It's step on their throat and let's take it back to Houston and end it in six. We'll pick up a few Tilman-isms along the way in the next few years."

"Fertitta quickly puts a stop to this idea. “If people said, ‘Tilman, why are you so successful?’” he tells Williams, “I’d say, ‘You know why? Because I never shot for the stars.’”

I can't wait till the start of the season for ticketholders, guys thanks for your continued support and don't worry about a nother year tanking, keep hope alive, and heres a free copy of Shut up and Listen to learn Tilmanisms(fine print: Book is free, but handling and shipping of picking it up from under your chair is 15.99 payable to Landry's Corp)

I'll take the can-do, positive, hopeful attitude over the putzy, negative, sky is falling attitude any day.

Except Simmons is right. The return on the Harden trade is laughably bad and the owner is a joke.

Anyone comparing the broken husks of old Pierce and old KG to a perennial MVP candidate in Harden has truly lost their mind. And I suppose Deron Williams and Brook Lopez are supposed to be Kyrie and KD? Lmao, stop pretending the Nets picks have a lot of value.

It’s more likely than not that none of those picks are in the lottery.

The same owner that said he was gonna do whatever it takes to win it all, now says he's excited for rebuilding.

    We r doomed.

None of this matters and doesn't affect the dough...
might as well be positive. Hope is free
If it wasn't, Tilman would sell

As opposed to straight dumpster that’s happened here in the last 3 years lmao. The idiot here shares no comparison and will continue to be a joke for years to come.

All we hear about is a destroyed franchise Tilman and LTS back to back to back champs, has people continuing to quit, and the rockets becoming the worst team in the league.

Is it only a binary option?

Can you be pragmatic, objective so much not to be ignorant and repeat history and then also see where we made major mistakes, own up to them like anyone would appreciate and then say we'll learn from these mistakes, do better on oppose to pointing fingers, lying about going all in

Yea, but there are long time, 10-20-30 year season ticket holders who don't want to get rid of their seats. They believe in the rockets have an emotional attachement, its beyond a message board. We were here through alexander, Rudy T, The dream, Franchise, Tmac, Yao, Harden, Mchale, Adelman, MDA and so on. We're supposed to give up our rituals and attachments and wait for tilman to figure out this isnt the Landry's Rockets?

I wouldn't be as disappointed if he didn't continue to act like a used car salesman and bullshit and point fingers, if he owned up that he was a rookie owner, leveraged, and went about it wrong and is now learning lessons and is going to be better

You know the nuggets owner, filthy rich, young guy, plyed college ball known as quiet and humble said his first few years in management were huge learning lessons, mistakes, and he learned and can do better...maybe a little honesty when the nba is not like a traditional private business, its a partnership. the owners are more replaceable than the talent. its an odd thing to see people jump loops for the guy who will price you out of the building the second the market allows and say, sorry its business. Likewise with les, letting the legend Dream walk and say sorry its a business. Goes to show where does our loyalty lie, with the Rockets, the team or the owner which is interchangeable and no one gives a **** about.

The truth shall set you free but lies will keep you employed.

I'm in favor of the pragmatic, wait and see approach. No emotions are warranted at this point.

I feel for those people (if they aren't wealthy). hobbies are expensive sometimes.

Im not saying give it up, but manage expectations if you are continuing to shell out all that cash for the team.

but still, none of this matters.
