There is something backwards about trying to generate a pre-tax number this way, when tax rates in Russia and the US won't be the same. The should be comparing post-tax incomes in both countries for a valid comparison.

Russian deal: 3M Euros (no taxes) = $4.5M

    NBA MLE: $5.8M * 0.65 (money remaining after taxes) = $3.77M

So, he would have taken less money with the MLE, but couldn't even get that offered to him.

come on guys it's not hard to figure out...i'll do it really simple-like

    3 million euro * 1.6 eur/usd = 4.8 million dollars

8 million dollars * .6 (60% of his gross salary due to taxes) = 4.8 million dollars

With the exception of Childress, this is foreign players leaving, which makes perfect sense.

Closer to your home, a more familiar lifestyle, a more familiar brand of basketball that you can flourish in, likely trading a minor role for a starring one, and more money.

Makes all the sense in the world. I don't doubt we're going to see less overseas guys applying for the draft as well.

the article said 9 million PER YEAR. I'm going to assume the article is wrong though and that the 9 million is for the 2 years.

whats so hard to understand, robbie's calculations are pretty accurate and 9 million is a pretty ballpark estimate
