ok, WHY is he changing his number?

It seems the article fails to mention the reason. He wore #24 in highschool but so what?!? I think Kobe is just trying to buff up his "I'm the next Jordan" campaign. Pathetic..

There is a 3rd reason why Kobe wears the number 8. That is the number that his idol in Italy wore, that idol is the coach of the Suns, Mike D'Antoni. Can't believe that reporter didn't make that connection. It is widely known.

All his jock-riding fans already have his number 8 jersey. Now they'll go buy a number 24 jersey. Simple.

Same reason T-Mac jerseys are so popular in China. Everybody already has Yao's jersey. (I know EVERYBODY doesn't, it's a figure of speech).

    Next Jordan?

That has absolutely nothing to do with it.

The Lakers don't ever really change the way their uniforms look. So in order to boost sales, Kobe has to switch numbers (everyone's already got an 8).

    Yeah, uh....what the hell?
    Someone is cookin.

No idea whats up with this but a few possible reasons are:
-Wants his jersey sales to be #1 next year cause people have the other players' jerseys already.
-Sounds like he's trippin, what kind of weed he be smoking, what type of drinks he be sippin?
-Can't think of anything else, sry.

Do players actually get money from jersey sales?

Even if they don't, doesn't matter too much to them.
It's more about the temporal aspect of that.
The ego, the recognition of having the number 1 selling jersey.
