http://news.yahoo.com/s/ac/20110217...roski_plan_inside_track_for_las_vegas_stadium Downtown Las Vegas National Sports Center Looks to Overtake UNLV Project International Development Management LLC, the Romani Group and Turner Construction released their plan just days before the Majestic Reality plans were voted on by the UNLV Board of Regents. The three stadiums would include a 50,000-seat stadium, a 17,500-seat arena and a 9,000-seat baseball stadium. Chris Milam is the CEO of International Development Management and the man that is claiming he has an NBA team that will be willing to move to Las Vegas if a deal is made for his project. Milam also stated this in August before he scrapped plans to build the Silver Star Arena next to the Sahara Hotel. At that time Milam told the Las Vegas Review Journal, "We have an NBA team under contract," Milam said, without naming the team. Shortly after Milam's arena next to the Sahara was voted out he began working his next pet project in Downtown Las Vegas.
It can happen. But not really going to work. Orange County is Laker County. Clippers take the remaining tickets. Simply put, the town isnt big enough for the 3 of them. Then there are UCLA fans. The only market they can tap into are the inland counties residents who don't want to drive too far to LA, or don't want to drive into the deep LA traffic. Or the "OC separatists" crowd who want their own identity. If I were the Clippers, I'd cut them off at the pass and apply into the arena before the Kings steal fans away. OC residents would probably want the Clippers before the Kings. Even worse for ME, it'd be MORE Rockets BLACKOUT games where I'm forced to watch games with the local announcers instead of the Houston announcers.
The franchise started NBA "life" in NY state as the Rochester Royals. The franchise move to Kansas City was complicated naming wise since their are the MLB Kansas City Royals. Hence, the KC-Omaha Kings. Perhaps they'll switch back to "Royals"?
The Bulls had the foresight to have their season ticket holders commit to 5 years to get season tickets for Jordan's last year which sustained them through the terribull seasons. Plus they have a big population base to draw from to fill their arena.
I need to edit that info. In between Rochester and KC, the Kings played in Cincinnati, OH. You can read about the tragedy of Maurice Stokes and greatness of the Big O when they played in Cincy in the link below.Sorry for the omission. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacramento_Kings
Pretty emotional goodbye by the King's broadcasters... <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/M06-ZfDT5JE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Man it really is horrible that Sacramento might lose their team. You've got teams like the Lakers/Celtics/Knicks who never have to worry about situations like this and those fans take those teams for granted. If the chance of the Rockets/Texans/Astros moving to another city arised I would be in an uproar.
Well that's no fun. The Kings were by far my favorite team (besides the Rockets) during the early part of the decade. And that arena was a madhouse back then. I guess we're lucky that we got our arena and didnt have to see something like this happen. Bye Sacramento
Hard to believe that used to be the loudest arena in the NBA, Sacramento fans deserve better, they just needed a competent team.-
I really hope this gets blocked. I'm sure Clips and Lakers will block it, maybe the smaller teams will too.
I don't understand how they can move to Anaheim. If you're a basketball fan in the Anaheim area, you're going to be a Lakers fan.
