Exactly, after Melo is gone, there's no sense for them keeping Billups...that's why BOTH Billups and Melo could be brought to Rockets, even if it means letting KM go...if there's no other way to land melo, why not considering it as an ultimate option?

    A roster like this
    PG: Billups, Lowry
SG: Lee+ SG gottend form trade (Delfino my preference, easy and cheap to get, and awesome defensive team player with court vision)
    SF: Melo, Chase
    PF: Scola, Patterson
    C: Yao, Miller

Don't you think such team would not be a title contender?

Do not want! I was cool with K-Mart in the deal cause we have solid players on the wing that could replace him along with Melo. Brooks...not so much.

I think its pretty safe to say we are NOT getting Melo. I've been saying forever that NY is his first choice, it was just proven even more in this article. Also Morey is a smart man for deciding not to trade Martin. I say we stand pat and see what we can do.

Remember, Denver must sell this trade to the fans. They've got to get back a name, a young player with a bright future. That's not Chase, yet, but Brooks is that type of player.

No way we're giving up Aaron AND Martin ....plus

Billups has lost a step on both sides of the ball and will soon be a shell of his former self.

Brooks would hurt, but I think it might be appropriate given that Melo/Martin/Yao need the ball to be effective.

ya i figured that much out too....i HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt this will go down. i have just now officially walked away from melo and have to come to the fact that our starting will not include him. too bad...we still gonna be better than any team he goes to.

We have enough salary and young talent to acquire Melo and Billups without giving up Martin. This is ideally what would be best for Denver and would be what they would prefer to do as opposed to taking on Martin's deal. Denver would much rather have Chase at pennies on the dollar as to have Martin at $11 million per.

You give Denver one draft pick, and you give them Chase, Hill or PPat, both expirings, the non-guaranteed contracts that they can cut, and either Brooks or Lowry, whichever they prefer. You take back Melo, Billups, and whoever they want to dump with our Ariza trade exception.

That leaves us a pick, plus Chauncey's expiring deal, plus whatever is left of Lowry/Brooks, plus Lee and whichever is left of Hill/PPat to send to New Orleans in the big Paul/Okafor deal.

    Paul
    Martin
    Melo
    Yao
    Scola

    Multiple Finals appearances.

For this trade to work out for the Nuggets first and foremost, and to have it come to fruition before the end of the week, there alost has to be a third team involved that nobody is talking about.

The Nuggets obviously have a steep asking price and why shouldn't they. They essentially want an all star calliber player now, a prospect, and cap relief. If the Rockets want to keep Kevin Martin out of the trade, (which I am happy about but besides the point) the piece that has to go is Brooks, Scola, or Yao. Now we know it wont be Yao, and Scola is probably not being heavily pursued with his contract that he just signed with us so that only leaves Brooks as the key "all-star calliber piece."

This is where the trade gets complicated. I know what you are thinking here... The Nuggets already have two very good point guards. Here is where the third team comes in. Both Morey and the Nuggets GM are probably both searching for teams who are in need of a good PG and have something they can give in return.

Just for kicks I could maybe see Cleveland getting involved to send Jamison or Varejao to the nuggets for Brooks and picks. Just an idea of course but an example of a team that would value Brooks more than Denver. If anyone has any good third teams they think could get involved please go for it.

The trade could look something like this.

    The Rockets send
Brooks, trade exception, 2011 First round pick to Cleveland
Jared Jefferies or Battier, Chase budinger and 2012 first round pick to Denver

    Cleveland sends
    Jamison to Denver

    The Nuggets send
Carmelo Anthony, and Ronaldo Balkman to Houston

*I did not check this trade out to see if the money works but you get the idea

Jamison is not a young, all-star level talent. Neither is Varejao.

I do agree with the premise of turning Brooks into other assets. Perhaps something like Brooks and Battier to Atlanta for Marvin Williams and a first rounder? Or Brooks and Battier to Charlotte for Gerald Wallace?? Now you can give Denver Wallace, Budinger, and a first rounder. They get a small forward, a shooting guard, and a lottery pick for Melo.

How about Golden State? I would think they would give up their first rounder to get Brooks and Jeffries for Monta Ellis. So, then you've got the possibility of Denver taking Monta, Golden State's pick, one of the Knicks picks, plus their choice of one of Hill, PPat, or Budinger, whatever they want.

Philly? Battier and Brooks for Iggy?

There are multiple 3-way possibilities using Brooks.

As the Nuggets' front office works the phones, new destinations for Carmelo Anthony keep popping up. Should the Nuggets trade their all-star forward, the Houston Rockets would be in the mix, said an NBA source with knowledge of what is being discussed.

New Jersey is believed to be a strong contender too, should the Nets choose to go hard after Melo.

That's because of the locale, which would be enticing for Anthony and his wife, New York native La La Vazquez, and because the Brooklyn- bound Nets would have several attractive trading chips, such as draft picks and expiring contracts — and possibly a young low-post player, such as starter Brook Lopez or rookie Derrick Favors.

As for the Rockets, the source said they are open to exploring many options — even trading Kevin Martin, who averaged 20.6 points last season.

The Nuggets are considering trading Anthony because of their inability to sign him to a long-term contract.

Anthony becomes a free agent after the 2010-11 season. The Nuggets have offered him a three-year, $65 million contract extension.

No one in the Nuggets' front office would comment Tuesday on Anthony's situation.

The Nuggets appear willing to be patient, seeing what offers come their way and understanding that teams could potentially offer more building blocks for the future than have been discussed so far.

Two destinations for Anthony that have been mentioned often, the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks, are out of the mix for now, according to The New York Times, because the Bulls aren't willing to deal big man Joakim Noah and the Knicks just don't have much to trade.

Melo and his wife have spent ample time in Los Angeles this summer, and it's understood that La La Land is a desirable destination for La La, who loves the spotlight.

But an NBA source said the Clippers' Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon, their most valuable young trading chips, won't be moved. So that would make it difficult for the Clippers to make a deal.

It's also hard to believe the Nuggets would trade their all-star forward to the Lakers, the team the Nuggets are trying to knock off at the top of the Western Conference.

My thoughts exactly. Those are really good possiblities. The reason for me mentioning Cleveland first is the need for a good quality PG that can be a go to scorer. But I think Charlotte should definitely be in play here, but Im not sure Brooks for Wallace is much of swap unless they throw in another 1st round picks.

Im not sure how interested Philly would be in Brooks though with their commitment to Jrue Holiday and Louis Williams. But regardless, a three team trade might be the only way to make both the Nuggets and the Rockets happy with what they are giving up to get.

If its Brooks, it'll be a 3 way. I was just thinking of Charlotte as well. They seem desperate for a starting PG. But desperate enough to move Wallace? What if we threw Buddinger also? Maybe also one of NY's 1st rounders (yes, I do think Wallace's value is that high). Then Wallace + filler (Jeffries?), + Hill for Melo ? I doubt Denver gets more than that on the market as it stands now.

And from ATL, we would have to somehow pry away A. Horford to get Denver to listen. He'll be a tough get. They can use Brooks, but we would probably have to also throw in Hill + NY pick. Even then ATL may not bite as they would have too many guards and not enough big guys.

I just dont see G. State a good trading partner as they also have Curry, who is similar to Brooks. But the point is, we do have enough assets to offer a 3rd team that could net someone that Denver seeks. Lets see how it pans out.

I don't know why people keep bringing up Brooks. The Nuggets won't want him and we shouldn't give him up anymore than we should give up Martin anyway.

If we manage to deal for Melo, it will probably involve Budinger, Hill, Patterson, draft picks--those types of assets in the package. Not Brooks, who is about to be much more expensive, and plays a position Denver has no need in.

People keep bringing up Brooks because he is an asset and he doesn't necesarily have to end up in Denver in a potential trade.
