Is Martin worth the max? NO!

Is he a damn good power forward? Yes!

Is he better than Brian Grant and Shareef Abdur-Rahim? Hell Yes!

Are Brian Grant and Shareef Abdur-Rahim worth the Max? HELL NO!

Why do Rocket fans keep proposing trades to bring Grant and Abdur-Rahim to Houston? I have no idea!

Can you blame Martin for asking for the max? No.

This is similar to Odom being a whiner and demanding a trade.

So, btw: why is this owner not a cheap b*stard for not offering a max extension, yet Odom's owner is??

Neither Odom nor Martin warrant a max extension, but the both seem to be demanding the max.

    Da Man,

I agree with your Max assessments. Shareef is a classic numbers guy who does nothing for wins.

But I would like to clarify that Martin is going beyond asking for the max, he is demanding it and asking to be traded.

    big difference.

After two years or so on this bbs, finally a post that completey read my mind. Isn't Griffin an east coast guy? I don't think the Rockets and Nets match up for any trades, Dallas can offer them a more attractive package.

Here is an article about it. From the New York Daily Post.I just copied the important line.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/story/107605p-97314c.html

Before Dyke requested a trade, however, the Nets were already discussing one with the Blazers. According to Nets and Blazers sources, the teams talked about a deal that would send Martin and Dikembe Mutombo to Portland for Rasheed Wallace and Arvydas Sabonis. Sabonis will earn $7million this season and has two years left on his contract. However, his contract is not guaranteed until Aug.15, which means a team can waive the 38-year-old center to save money. The 6-11 Wallace, a 28-year-old two-time All-Star, will earn $17million this season before becoming a free agent. Kevin Garnett will also become a free agent, and the Nets would love to make a run at the Timberwolves superstar next year.

And another one talking about Ruben Patterson from The Oregonian.

    http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/sports/1060430800320070.xml

The Trail Blazers appear to be shopping around Rasheed Wallace, and they have considered a deal that would send the volatile forward and Ruben Patterson to the New Jersey Nets for Dikembe Mutombo and Kenyon Martin.

"There have been some discussions, but there is not a trade on the table at this moment," coach Maurice Cheeks said Friday.

    HOLY CRAP!
Sheed AND Patterson?! For KMART and Mutombo?! WTF IS GOING ON?! That's not fair to the Blazers AT ALL...
The Leastern Conference looks like a one team race now...

Keep proposing trades, people, because as wild or stupid as they sound, they just might come true...

I remember when Mo Taylor called Kenyon Martin a fake last year. I think Mo T said he was a fake strong guy or something, meaning that Martin acts all intense, but he isn't that intense.

All I know is that I agree with the rest of you, Martin is not a max player.

    Updated article:

Deal may also include Mutombo and Patterson

    ESPN.com news services

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Trail Blazers have been talking about trading Rasheed Wallace and Ruben Patterson to the New Jersey Nets for Dikembe Mutombo and Kenyon Martin, according to a newspaper report.

"There have been some discussions, but there is not a trade on the table at this moment," coach Maurice Cheeks told The Oregonian.

The Blazers apparently are hesitant to make the trade because Portland general manager John Nash does not want to inherit Mutombo's salary, which is $17.9 million this season and $19.7 million next season.

Wallace is in the final year of a contract which will pay him $17 million.

Meanwhile, Martin has broken off contract talks with the Nets and has asked for a trade, reports ESPN.com's David Aldridge.

Martin, who has one year remaining on his Nets contract, reportedly was seeking a six-year extension worth approximately $87 million, but Aldridge reports the Nets have offered him roughly $66 million.

Martin is not eligible for a new contract until July 2004. He is scheduled to make $5.1 million this season.

Nash, who was the Nets' general manager from 1996-2001, was noncommittal when asked about the trade.

"I'm not at liberty to discuss that," Nash said. "As a general policy, I won't confirm or deny that we are involved in a trade."

Nets president Rod Thorn was traveling to West Virginia for his son's wedding and could not be reached for comment.

Although Cheeks said he wants to keep Wallace, he said the team has continually looked to trade him this summer.

"There have been a lot of things going on about Rasheed," Cheeks said. "And not just about Rasheed, a lot of other players, too. And there have been some deals on the table."

Although Wallace has led the Blazers in scoring the past four seasons, he also has come to symbolize a poor team attitude that owner Paul Allen and new managers are attempting to change.

Wallace led the NBA in technical fouls from 1999-2002, setting a record with 41 in 2000-01, and he has been suspended for 11 games during the past three seasons for incidents ranging from attacking a referee to throwing a towel at a referee to throwing a towel at a teammate. He was cited for mar1juana possession last season.

"I know Rasheed has not been the best soldier," Cheeks said. "But I think he is trying to change. Right now, he is working out in Las Vegas, and for Rasheed to be doing that at this time of the year is a very positive sign."

As general manager of the Nets, Nash picked Martin with the No. 1 choice in the 2000 draft. The 6-foot-9 power forward averaged 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds last season, but like Wallace he has received suspensions for his conduct, primarily flagrant fouls.

Mutombo is a 12-year NBA veteran who was injured much of last season, limiting him to 24 games with an average 5.8 points and 6.4 rebounds in 21.4 minutes. A 7-2, 265-pound center, Mutombo is the only player in NBA history to win the league's Defensive Player of the Year award four times.

    This is ridiculous.

Remember after the Laker series everyone was saying he was going to average 20 and 10? That didn't happen, and I fail to see how 16 and 8 in the Eastern Conference gets you the highest contract possible.

You CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT determine his worth on a few good games against Duncan. I can't believe someone would say that he's as good as Brand because they put up similar stats against Duncan. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a player should be judged versus the whole NBA, and not just a few games against one player.

K-Mart is an egotistical jerk who thinks a few chest-pounds makes him a top-10 player, when he doesn't even put up the stats of a top-10 PF. I bet you Elton Brand would be looking like a top-5 player if he pounded his chest after every dunk too.

the dude isn't even worth 1/2 the contract he's asking for.
A decent defensive player that will easily be out-matched by the fowards of the west.
Has no individual offensive game. I don't care if he shows a couple hook shots a few times, MoTaylor looks like Duncan compared to him when it comes to offense.
He's a joke when it comes to handling the ball.....thank god Kidd is around to pass him the ball in scoring position.
The guy is basically Griffin with intensity.
    No more, no less.

I hope he does get the max with some other team just so everyone can see how terrible of a player he is.

"The reported Nets-Trail Blazers deal would have Portland sending Wallace and Ruben Patterson to New Jersey for Martin and center Dikembe Mutombo."

I would do it.....would you? It's good for the TBlazers.....replace one bad boy with another one and another one who likes hitting people in the neck with his elbow and using sneaky sly tricks.

Kidd and Wallace.....I can't imagine them playing together. Their playing styles differ.

Dude's got one offensive move. Jump hook over the left shoulder. I suppose getting out & running the floor well for a 4 counts as a move too. Ok 2 moves. ... He isn't anywhere near Brand. When the ball goes into Martin you don't have to double team, you don't have to worry about the team running any offense. He shots the ball & makes it or misses it, nothing else. When good post up players touch the ball, the offense for the whole team comes alive.

    Kenyon < Rasheed
    Mutombo =< Patterson

Patterson maybe slightly better than Mutombo
[mainly because Mutombo is taller and in a more desired position]

New Jersey makes out like a bandit
