Maybe, just maybe, the Rockets never expected Gay to fall to #8, and they had already committed to the deal with Memphis to do the following: Trade #8 and dump Stromile's contract - to land Mike James in a S&T - with Battier going to Toronto. 2 birds with one stone. Obviously there's a chance that James just signs for the MLE - but there have been whispers in TO that there is already a S&T deal in place for James (and not the Dallas one). The question is - going into the draft - would anyone here agree to trade #8 and dump Swift for Mike James?
The difference between James and Stoudamire is that we have as much money to offer as most of the rest of the league. But with Damon we had already spent our MLE, so we were bucking for a sign and trade. This time we're hoping against a sign and trade. Maybe Toronto will be more satisfied with their own cap space than a sign and trade option. Here's to that.
i wouldn't exactly say that but then again theres no telling at all when it comes to GM's esp. the rockets duo. But i still think that our dirty Ho(ward, Juwan) is gonna be sent packing sooner than later
That would be great, but if we get back James and Battier, we'd have to send out more salaries than just Stro, so it's probably not the deal that CD/West struck.
toronto will have mo pete and bosh to worry about re-signing next season. the 4.2 te could be valuable to them. if james can be happy with a figure around 26-30 mil over 5 years (tax situation in texas should help) then a s&t is possible.
We will be competitive if we get James back, plus the help of a taller and younger David Wesley.Novak will be Padgett. And Rafer will contribute to some degrees to make up for the presence of Sura and Barry. Yao, James and David Battier are improved. T-Mac is T-Mac if his back holds up. Head will probably impove some. Deke is another year older. The Rockets may have a chance to contend if they find their chemistry back. The offseason is still salvagable after the rape of the Logo.
I would love to see what this team can do starting a smaller lineup of: C- Yao PF- Battier SF- McGrady SG- James PG- Alston We would give up a lot more points than we did last season, but I'd just love to see how we'd do for a ten game stretch.
James will never sign for $4.2M and the Raps are likely to fall under the cap rendering a $4.2M TE basicallly worthless to them since they only have~19M committed for 2007-08. (You can use cap space or exceptions but not both).
I hope we can get James. I just hope that he isn't money hungry and is actually considering us as opposed to using us to get more money out of a team. I liked James as a Rocket. I just don't want him starting. I would rather have Skip start and then bring in James off the bench when Yao is taking a breather. We could give teams fits if we can run and gun with our bench squad and pound it inside with our starting 5. I really, really hope this goes through.
It can be done if MJ accepts 4.2 million a year. I don't see him taking it. MLE is not bad at all for MJ. We can use the TE to sign lorenzen wright, or CATO, or other players.
I think the starting lineup at the end of the season should be if we get James: C: Yao/Mutombo? PF: Howard/Hayes SF: Battier/Bowen SG: McGrady/Wesley/Frahm PG: James/Alston/Sura Not a bad lineup with Alston, Hayes, Head, Novak, Wesley, Sura (if he is coming back), and Frahm coming off the bench. But they really need an upgrade at backup C, backup SF, and maybe another PF banger to compete with Hayes off the bench.
I rate the James-Alston trade as almost as dumb as the Gay, Swift, Battier deal. Although I like Battier much more than Alston. They should have never given James up. I want him back in the worst way. On my team, he starts.
In the article posted earlier it states that JVG was at MJames Houston doorstep at 11:01 PM. This is the negotiation that took place between 11:01 PM and 11:02 PM Van Gundy: Please. please, please! I never wanted to trade Mike in the first place, ...I loved his PG skills. And I promise he can jack up 3's in the fourth quarter all he wants! Mrs. James: Wheres the MLE contract? I ain't movin' back to Canada. Is it in your briefcase? Mike: But honey, ...wait, we may be able to get more from Atlanta! Mrs. James: Shut up and get the pen!
I really don't understand JVG. He comes in here and sends all kinds of mixed messages when it comes to players. He lets Padgett go then says he regrets it and wants him back. He gives Mike James the boot then runs to his house to kiss his butt to come back in less than a year. The player he traded for (Rafer) is still here and God knows what he's thinking with the James news. He resigns Ryan Bowen. He convinces Stro to leave Memphis then trades him less than a year right back to them. And people wonder what other free agents would want to come to Houston right now and play for this guy?
we need to sign him to 3 with a team option on the 4th year. Then he should understand if he still has wheels we can resign him the 5th year at his real worth in his mid-30's. $2mil is still better than selling cars.... I don't see anyone except us being stupid enough to give MJ 5 years..... Hey and this one just hit me: I thought Gundy had nothing to do with personnel decisions and signing players??? What the he11 is he doing at MJ's house talking to him? Isn't that CD and Morey (dummy than a Genius)'s jobs???
