Does Lucas signing prevent us from acquiring a bruiser? Adding pieces to our depth chart is always good especially at low cost. Just curious how long and how much we sign him for.
i think he was referring to vspan & lucas as our backup pgs being rookies, and alston is not a star starter who should dominate minutes
That's exactly what I mean. I wouldn't mind having two rookie PG's backing up Chauncey Billups, but Rafer should be closer to a 25-30 mpg player than a 35-40 mpg player.
Lucas did put up a three to put the Bobcats game into overtime. Head later put one up to force a double-OT.
Is it realistic to expect to have a "star" at every position? I would argue that Alston, while not a "star," is a very serviceable, starting quality PG who deserves to dominate minutes at that position.
you would be beating a dead horse here, because i don't like alston very much. i agree that he should be playing no more than 25 min a game but having him in there for 40 min i think might be a liability on defense and offense because of his lack of shooting range.(k.smith & cassell were both decent to good shooters at the point, even maloney had his time when we made it to wcf in 97) while he might average 8-10 assists this coming year i really believe any decent starter on this squad could average that. by no means are we looking at a superstar at every position but a very good point guard could lead us to the promise land we have been wanting to go to with yao and tmac.
I agree i can't believe how many bricks rafer threw up last season...and i doubt that vspan and JL3 are going to contribute next year.....and head isn't going to be some great gaurd he is devent at best and we don't kno how kirk is going to mesh with JVG so we definetly have ????? all over our backcourt and oh yeah bob sura i like his game but it is going to be tough to recover from two surgeries....the signings of vspan and jl3 are o.k. but the rockets should have spent that money to bring in an acctually solid PF and a 3rd string center like etan thomas from washington i don't know if he is a free agent but that is just an example
I don't think he needs to be on the floor for 40 minutes, but 35 is a great target. Really? I also think that he could get 8-10 APG and last year, that would put him in the top 6 in the league in that category along with Nash, Miller, Kidd, and Billups. Rafer is a perfectly acceptable PG for a championship run, particularly when you consider that the Heat won this year with Jason Williams. PPG: RA 12.1 JW 12.3 RPG: 4 2.4 APG: 6.7 4.9 SPG: 1.6 .9
I don't see any minutes for young lucas next season. Alston, Spanoulis, Luther Head and Sura if healthy would be ahead of him.
Right on....thats why JVG wanted 3 point guards...assuming Sura is not playing this yr. I will have to wait to see Sura play again with my eyes before I believe thats he's back.
some more stats to consider MPG: RA 25.8 JW 31.8 FG%: 37.9 44.2 3P%: 32.7 37.2 FT%: 69.2 86.7 FGA/G: 11.7 10.3
Why Ely? Is there any other choice since Rox' goal is NBA championship? I think hawks' Zaza Pachulia is more suitable. He's a really excellent rebounder and he can play 4 and 5.
