Thanks NJR. We need a guy like White on our team, but not as our principal C. I'd love to get White along with another center that can shoot a little bit, like Raef, or Brad Miller.
The Rockets don't need a star at Center. I think our main need at that position is someone that can rebound, block shots, and play defense to at least contend w/ Shaq & Robinson. I think Lafrentz would break in half if he had to guard Shaq in a 5 game series. I would much rather have a "center by committee" and use guys who have size and muscle. I agree w/ Jersey on the 18 foul tip.
How can people subscribe to this INSIDER garbage?? That is like saying you are building your whole team around Robert Horry. This one statement makes all the rest really suspicious. This is like a TRG post.
Crispee, You know what's scary? the Sonics ARE building around Rashard. At least that's been the word up here in Seattle the last couple years. He's pretty good, but I definitely don't think he's worthy of a Franchise tag... He's a great 2nd or 3rd option. I'd probably rather build around Cuttino, myself. Maybe the Rockets should trade Stevie and build around Bullard?!
I'm a member now!!!! 30 Posts!!! Ok - I'm sure no one cares, but I'm glad to have gotten rid of that junior status.
quote: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ They are building their whole team around [ Rashard Lewis ] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ With Jordan (rumored) to be HOT on Rashard with his cap space next year, his head must be about to exploded. Sure is a different situation for him, then when Houston passed him up for a BIG TURKISH TURKEY!!!!!
Can someone please explain the sudden infatuation with Rashard Lewis? The guy will be a very good role player at best, but nothing more. People are making him out to be some rising superstar. He has no low post game, can't put the ball on the floor, can't create his own shot, and can't create a shot for others. He also has slightly above average athleticism at best. What he does have is a beautiful jumpshot and good quickness for a 6'10 guy. That equates to a very good role player, but certainly not some franchise savior. Another guy people tend to overrate is Shawn Marion. I love the guy and think he would be a huge addition to any team, but he is very limited in what he can do. He has the worst jumpshot of any perimeter player in the NBA, has no low post moves, and average ball-handling ability. His freakish athleticism is what allows him to thrive off loose boards, but he certainly is not a superstar who can create for himself or others. Shawn Marion will not have a very good year this year with the departure of Jason Kidd.
I disagree. I don't think Rashard is overrated. He's still very young and has come a long way in his couple years in the league. He has a good shot from most anywhere on the floor and can move great without the ball. He's a good rebounder and a decent defender. He may be just a role player now, but could be one of the leagues more prominent stars in the years to come.
Even if Jahidi is 6' 8" I would take him. He is an ox, 290lbs of muscle. A Larry Smith or Charles Oakley (w/o the shot and dirtyness) type back-up center would be a fine compliment to the taller and more athletic but sporatic Cato. Not that Jahidi is unathletic, he certainly more so than MacCoullach for instance and his rebounding and blocks per minute average as posted in another thread are real good for a heavier player. Having his work ethic in practices and game effort might be a heck of an incentive for Cato because we would have a viable alternative that brings a lot of different things to the table. I also think Walt or Langhi make a lot of sense in this deal. We have too many SFs and the Wizards have excess 4s and 5s--and they seem to be in need of more shooters/scorers.
I would have liked Rashard to be a Rocket, but there is no evidence we are talking about a guy to build your team around. Compare them at 20 years old for instance, and Rashard (15 PPG, 7 RBG, 1.6 APG .6 BPG) is no where near Abdur-Rahim (22, 7, 2.7, 1), and Rashard had an extra year of NBA training. I also agree with Cabbage (haven't heard that name in a while, it is good to though) about Marion. A good defender and terrific garbage man, but not a leader. Call him a fine role player.
I agree. White would be a great pickup. I'd even be willing to ship Shandon and Walt for him. We need that muscle down low.
Although I was cracking on him before... I think that Jahidi White is our best option left as a solution to our gaping hole at the 5. Yes... I would rather have Marc Jackson (despite his miniscule bpg average) becuase of his size and offensive game. But most of you have brought up the fact that with the added punch of Eddie Griffin and a more mature Mo Taylor, we don't really need a 5 that scores 15 a game (and all those who said that are exactly right!). We're looking for more like 10 - 12 a game. White almost scored that in 20 minutes. I think he could start for this team, play 30 minutes a game, and put up at least 12 pts, 10 rebs, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 blks. Although that might be on the optomistic side, just realize that Francis, Mobley, and Taylor are all a year older/better and that the presence of Griffin down low (or on the wing) could free up our center down low for some easier buckets. I also love a guy who, despite being a high draft pick or a "marquee" player, he's earned his way into a starting lineup and worked hard to sustain the minutes he's been given. Maybe I like that so much becuase we have the perfect example of the opposite in Cato.

If the Sonics are planning to build there team around Rashard then why did they spend a lottery pick on VRad?
I was just pointing out Rashard was far behind Rahim at the same age, and even the latter is arguable whether you could build a team behind him. I do suspect Rahim will be a load in the east, though he will probably always be a notch behind "great". I don't agree with the statement you can't build around a 3. I wouldn't mind building around Garnett or McGrady or a young Bird or Grant Hill or Elgin Baylor. It doesn't matter where the great players play, if they are great they transcend the position they play to help their team win.
If the Sonics are planning to build there team around Rashard then why did they spend a lottery pick on VRad? - Crash5179 Crash, it's been reported up here in Seattle that Rashard was not too happy about the Sonics pick because they both play the same position. Maybe the Sonics wised up and realized that although Rashard can be very good in this league, he's not worthy of being the Franchise player.
