The writer isn't comparing the two players' skills. He's pointing out what player he thinks Budinger should study and aspire to be like based on the fact that they both are athletic (in allen's case "was") and good shooters. We all know Budinger will never be as good as RA and so does the writer.

Yeah young Ray Ray had good quickness, speed, and ups.

Chase has speed and ups, but slightly below average lateral quickness.

I have watched Chase for 3+ years now and the only thing I think he definitely needs to work on is his core strength. Doing so can not only make him stronger but give him more explosiveness, especially from the hips, which is an underrated aspect of athleticism. That, and improving his flexibility too.

Vertical leap, no doubt but Allen's handles and first step were light years beyond Chase's. Ray Allen was one quick mofo back in the day.

Their skill sets are not similar beyond the fact they are both perimeter players. That's why I think it's a poor comparison. Ray Allen is/was a deadly shooter as well as a hell of a slasher and finisher. Budinger is a good (streaky but good) shooter who can't really handle the ball or get his own shot.

Dude, check out Ray Allen some 5-10 years ago.

Back to topic, a certain Vet that I like Buddinger to study from is Robert Horry. Clutch plays every single game, be it a rebound, block, steal or those dagger 3s. He is just so cool and poise even with things is not going his way.

Terrible comparison. Ray is much better shooter and was also much better at handling the ball. Then again, we're not really looking for the most similar player to Budinger or we might end up getting him to study Ariza (streaky shooter, weak dribbling, athletic). Personally I think jason richardson would be a better model for budinger to study.

LOL. you guys are overrating Chase to the fullest extent right now. I think his game is more similar to Rip Hamilton's.

the article isn't about who he is like, it's about who he should study. he's just saying that budinger needs to get better at utilizing screens and pin downs to put pressure on the defense.

he says that tyreke evans should study lebron so that he learns to attack the defense to create passing lanes as well as opportunities to score.

yeah, the player that you learn from has to be similar from you in some ways, but he's really just picking out a skillset that a vet has that the rook should learn too.

If Chase gets a copy of He Got Game, and watches every day over the summer would it accelerate the process?

He's not even a Rip Hamilton at his highest ceiling. Rip has an unconscious 15-20 footer and moves very quickly off the ball (on the downside of his career now but he was the leading scorer for those Detroit finals teams). Bud probably has better range from 3 and might have more explosiveness but I see him get rejected at the rim a lot more than he finishes.

As for Ray Allen, Bud should definitely model his game after him because he does have all the same tools Allen does (movement off ball, three point shooting, good (not great yet) jumper from 15-20 and solid defense) but Allen was a number one scorer for an NBA team for most of his career so I don't believe he'll ever reach that level.

Year 2 will tell us ALOT about Chase's potential.

I think he should aspire to be Hakeem Olajuwon who can shoot 3s.
