They wouldn't pay lux tax on a vet min contract because only 700k is paid by the team. We always differ in this subject, but u can't have a team full of 6'8 pf's and centers. Once again, u know history and when was the last time adelman has played with a zero on the court. Dorsey will not get off the pine unless its a emergency just like hayes and deke. Guys like that ruin any offensive plans adelman has, that's a fact. Now i'm not saying petro is the 2nd coming of dream, but he is a decent athlete, he does run the floor pretty well also for a big guy. Not to mention, he's still 4 yrs younger than dorsey. Maybe he would take a 1 yr 1.2m deal just like anderson took a minimum deal. At this point, the rockets should gamble on a young cheap 7fter, its not like they're going anywhere. At least you can kick the tires and see if and what he can do and maybe you come away with a starter or a backup if yao comes back. For 1m or 2, I think its worth the gamble.
Looks like the Rockets added a 6'11 center who is something more than a zero on the offensive end. Looks to be an Okur/Bargnani type player, probably not at that level but with those type of skills. Fits better into what Adelman likes to do with his pivot than Petro, I think.
We're interested in Sessions? I don't understand why we'd pursue a 6'3'' guard when our backcourt's loaded with young talent, and we desperately need a big man. Also, isn't Nesterovic similar to David Andersen in that he can step out behind the three-point line and spread the defense. I'd rather go after a bruiser who'd be willing to throw his body around in the paint and snag boards.
i like sessions, andre miller, marvin williams,,linus kleiza.....id be happy with anyone of those players....
What makes me happy is that I think the Rockets will finally utilize the Pick and Roll to perfection. I really like Andersons mobility and spot up shooting.
Those two players are completely different. Okur is a 3 point shooter but he's a solid rebounder as well as a solid post defender with a few post moves of his own. Bargnani is more of a 7 foot SF. He shoots/slashes but is an awful defender, a poor rebounder, and limited in the post. The one thing I love about Adleman is his balance. He looks at the overall impact. If Andersen is a poor mans Okur, I'm all for it. If he's a poor man's Bargnani, i don't see him getting many minutes. It doesn't matter what size you are if you don't use it (for rebounding, defense, shot blocking, etc.). I'm not a fan of Petro. I'd rather have a shot blocking big but atleast Petro is a decent rebounder/defender.
I was talking about the offensive end. Amongst centers, Okur and Bargnani are similar enough offensive players. Don't know how good a slasher/post-up player Andersen will turn out to be, but I would guess his skillset is something similar to theirs from what I've briefly read today.
Ben Wallace is now a free agent!! Might be a good short term replacement for Yao. He would be almost a duplicate Joey Dorsey but he has the experience and could play the defensive stopper while Scola is the offensive weapon in the paint. It would be interesting to see how this squad would fare: P.G. - Aaron Brooks (5-10) S.G. - Trevor Ariza (6-8) S.F. - Shane Battier (6-8) P.F. - Luis Scola (6-9) ..C. - Ben Wallace (6-9) The only problem is that defenses could collapse on Brooks and Scola while running off of Ariza, Battier and Wallace. On the defensive end however we would be stellar! Only thing is I am not sure how good Wallace is anymore. Evidently he has been contemplating retirement since he cannot quite do what he used to. If he came cheap though, I think it would be worth while for the short run. He sets the tone of his teams and was the heart and soul of the Pistons during their championship run. The team captains would be Wallace and Battier. Pretty good leadership there.
Well defense and rebounding are a big part of the game. If Andersen is lacking in that regard and is only a poor man's version of Bargnani on offense where does that leave him? If the player doesn't add any "big man" qualities, why not just go small? Okur is more like Rasheed Wallace offensively, imo. A good post player who can also stretch the D with his range. Bargnani is more like Keith Van Horn, an extremely limited post player but a good scorer (just not very efficient for a big). His size is only used for space on his shots. This is the only reason I attempted to make the distinction. IMO, if Andersen is a poor man's Bargnani he isn't much help. We'd get more production by just playing small and giving Scola/Landry/Hayes more minutes. If he's more like Okur, his size could really help us.
Ramon Sessions or Marvin Williams, are younger than Brooks, and any of this two have potential to be all stars... Ramon Sessions 6'3 23 yrs old <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EcAq7p6tdQQ&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_detailpage&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EcAq7p6tdQQ&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_detailpage&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Marvin Williams 6'9 (7'4 wingspan) 23 yrs old <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kNtwNpbPOCU&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_detailpage&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kNtwNpbPOCU&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_detailpage&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> either of this guy's would benefit a lot with our new up tempo team !!!
What we're told is that he can shoot the jumper, he can play well in the high post, and he can pass. Not sure how polished his post game is, or if he has enough strength to make use of it at the NBA level. But whether he turns out more like Okur or Bargnani offensively, either way that makes him a more skilled offensive center for our system than Johan Petro would be. I'm been of the opinion, for a number of months, that our priority this offseason (foremost) should be significantly improving our offense. Defense is a secondary concern for me. Amongst all our options at C that have been available and attainable, Andersen looks to be the best offensive player of the bunch. And he isn't a redundant player either. He'll potentially bring unique skills to our frontline.
