When you don't have many tradable assets, you have to draft well.

This is what I'm worried about to be honest. For anybody that watched Diaw play in Atlanta vs. what he did in Phoenix, what changed? Is it the offense that made him as good as he seemed? Or did he just happen to "pop" in talent after the trade?

I saw little of Diaw in Atl -- but -- after the JJ deal I read at least two writers' opinions that Diaw would flourish in Phx...that he had been used wrong as a Hawk. Not my opinion, theirs'. However, it seemed to be borne out.

As for players leaving a team and sucking eggs big time, look at SLC. Who ever left there and replicated his Jazz-y work? Shandon? Eisley? Carr? How 'bout Malone's one LA year?

Phoenix thinks he's Soft!? Now that's an oxymoron if I've ever heard one...

The biggest concern about Diaw is that he isn't a very good rebounder. Even last season his rebounding rate was subpar for a big. Maybe he can harness some of his atheleticism for rebounding in the future, but for now I'd rather the Rockets go after an above average rebounder in the David Lee/Nick Collison mode.

Yao Tracy Battier Alston Howard V. Span Novac Chuck Bonzi Mutombo Head Lucas Snyder Big Jake. One of the best teams in the West- so surely we must have some assets..........

    The key word is "tradeable."

Who's lining up for any of those? Yao maybe, but he's probablly not touchable therefore not a "tradeable asset."

T-Mac? Who wants that contract and that back?

Battier is probably tradeable, but he did a great job for us and is a Morey kind of player. Probably not a tradeable asset.

Which of our players is the ardent desire of some other team? I'm waiting...

    To the cap experts-

Is there any way we can trade for Diaw? He has the "poison pill provision" and I know this works somewhat like the BYC, but I'm not exactly sure what it entails.

I would love to see Diaw in the Adelman offense. It would let Yao stay in the low post where he is really effective, and give the high post passing threat that Adelman likes. Besides, Diaw is a smart defender and reasonably quick, so he can help out some there. He would be a good piece if Adelman wants to try a zone of some sort.

Diaw is not a good defensive player and love to shot from the outside. No thanks, cause he will make a big disappointment to the Rockets.

The fact that you said maybe proves you are, for lack of a better word, an idiot. Every GM would be standing in line for however long it took if they knew Yao was available. You win championships with players like Yao.

A trade for Diaw alone is impossible if the Suns objective is to dump salary.

Battier + Sura (total salary around 9.7M) for Diaw (9.M)

Sura can be waived for 1M so they're taking back around 6.9M. That's only around 2.1M (4.2M LT total) saved.

On the Rockets side it wouldn't be a good trade because of the salary situation they'd be in.

A multiple trade scenario that would benefit both sides more would be

    Sura + Lucas for Barbosa

    Howard for Kurt Thomas

Suns save around 10M in LT and Rockets fill positions in need.

    1. Diaw can't defend Duncan,
    2. Diaw can't defend Boozer
    3. Diaw can't even stop Dirk

so why do we need a overpriced and undersized PF ?

If htere's a slim chance that Diaw does come, he'll most likely be benched until one of our superstar comes off the floor. I see him (as a Rocket) as a 6th man, and the past yera has shown that he can't work with 2 superstars on the floor, and whatever anybody thinks, Yao and T-Mac are legit superstars and will hampen Diaw's production if Adelman throws all three onto the floor.

Strictly on what Diaw can do, I would take him in a heart beat. He is like a point guard that plays power forward and hits over 50% of his shots. Sounds like the perfect power forward for RA.

You noticed that also. This is more for show than anything else. I'm taking in all of this with the perverbial grain of salt.

For those who say yes to Diaw, please take a long, hard look at what he did this year vs what he did last year.

If anything, last year was an abberation. This year, he looked almost like his old Hawks self when on the court.

    Not worth Battier imo.
