I had looked into a trade when I saw Clevland was shopping Diop with Dajuan Wagner. What about Weatherspoon for the two? Weatherspoon and Diop have one more year on their contract after this season and Wagner comes off at the end of the season. Weatherspoon gets 6.3 next season and Diop is only owed 3.6 next season. If we let Wagner walk, we would have an extra 3 million next year. The salaries came from hoops hype so I am not sure if they are correct. I know that this would give us another SG but it would atleast free up some of Weatherspoons salary.
That Varejao is also looking good, though I don't think he's expendable. Luke might be a good pickup for us if we could make that happen...
I don't know about this. He has played very poorly and those are the type of players we tend to go for. At the same time he is way to young for us. Wait till he is 34 years old, averaging 2ppg and we will sign him to a three year 12 million dollar contract, with a five million dollar option for a fourth year.
I have been saying all along since Cleveland is practically offering to give Diop or Wagner away, why the hell not? Neither of them have contracts that go beyond this season. Unless you pundits have some kind of master plan to use this year's 2nd round pick? You can't teach size and its hard to ever complain about having too many 7 footers. Diop has doing what they have asked of him---he's lost weight and worked on his mid-range jumper. I don't think motivation or desire is the problem, I just think he needs a fresh start in a system where he feels like he is important. Wagner is a young player with superstar potential. We considered brining in Eddie House, they are similar players. However, this move probably makes the least sense of the two since we have an abundance of guards and he isn't a true PG.
I think we should gamble on Diop. You have Mutombo and Ewing to bring him along. Plus, if JVG could do it with Cato, then why not Diop? We can send them a second round pick.
If Diop is any good at rebound and defense as PF, I guess Cleveland wouldn't have worried that much when Boozer left.
