Agreed about that, but he can be servicable....the hopes for Hill are a lot lower than the ones for Patterson... DD
Jordan Hill is the kind of player where he does something awesome like once a game and you think, "Wow, if only this guy got it". But he will never get it. Ever.
Wrong. Hill has shown improvement all of the 2 seasons that he has played. Big men always take the longest to develop. Give the kid time. Be patient.
Bud doesn't really have handles but can play the 3. Asking as he can hit a three and defend other 3s, I think he will be fine. Never really understood the Hill hate. I see a lot of good things in his game.
So, . . . you're saying that you want to trade one of our 3 best players for what would likely be (based on your bolder statement above) a LATE first rounder? Les could just as easily BUY a pick in that range. I do, however, appreciate your point above clearing his salary from our books. I'd just hope we could get more than a mediocre pick for a player who would obviously be a missing piece to a championship contender.
I wish Bud can defend other 3's. If Bud can learn to put up an effective defensive effort, I will take back most of my frustrations about him. Hill hate comes from him regressing for a long time or at the very least, not progressing. He had some personal issues which can definitely affect his concentration. I am willing to give him another season before giving up on him.
He has better handles than Ariza, that is for sure. We will see how he turns out. I for one am excited. I typically am with new toys however.
As soon as 2Pat has a good season, Clutchfans will be clamoring to trade him and rebuild with a guy who is 21. In turn, the 21 year old will be suggested in 'rebuilding' trades for a 19 year old.
I will only rebuild 2Pat if he does prove to be gold is if it means I can transplant Hakeem's mind into it. XD
QFT. While I "get" trading away some of your more expensive players to clear cap room to improve elsewhere, I think there's far too much fervor for dumping starters in order to elevate young subs. It's the "shiny new thing" syndrome. Look. I absolutely LOVE PPat and was thrilled when the Rockets drafted him. I think he will eventually be a quality starting PF in the NBA (albeit probably not a perennial All-Star). But Luis Scola is simply a better player right now. You don't give up on your best players unless it is going to materially help the team win. Want to package Scola for a star player? Go for it. But don't just dump him for a crappy late first round pick who might not even turn into a player capable of ever cracking the rotation. Case in point: Say you decide to trade Scola to OKC for the always-overrated "future first round pick". OKC ends up with a high cede in the playoffs, and that pick turns into the #28 pick. The Rockets end up with a guy like Jermaine Taylor or Joey Dorsey (both selected in that range). Is THAT the return you want for Luis freakin' Scola?! Didn't think so.
Totally agree with this. Dumping everyone over 27 years old is a bastardized form of "rebuilding", not the smartest. I'm not accusing anyone in this thread of thinking this way, but it does seem to occur on Clutchfans from time to time.
I agree not to dump our best players, if we can get a star great, but if we can get a young developing potential star and a first? Then I think you have to take that chance. We are not bad enough to get high draft picks, so you have to take some chances, and while Scola is awesome, he is at his peak, and will begin declining by the time we get to be a contender.....I love the guy, my favorite player, and if someone offers a good offer for him, you got to take it. Same with ANY Rockets player. DD
Agreed. I just don't think the Rockets will ever actually receive an offer that good (young potential star + 1st Rd pick) for Scola. Hence, based on the offers the Rockets will most likely get for him, I don't see much point in trading him. Let's just hope Morey can put together a nice enough package involving Scola (or another player) plus picks to get a star.
Average defense and high % 19 ft set shooter, 1dimensional player that is overrated because he is young. He gets easily shut down when you just stand in front of him. This is what I saw last season.
How are you coming to the conclusion he doesn't have handles? He played point guard in high school and you can see him display some of his ball handling at the beginning of this video: <iframe width="560" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/KmwfM_6DxkQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I think many people on here want Morris to be more than just a role player. A playmaking SF along the lines of Paul Pierce or Carmelo Anthony needs to have handles.
Bingo. We have enough one-dimensional players on the Rockets. A proper swingman that can serve a variety of roles is a key. Also... a center. Lol.
