Well Deckard, i just figured that with both Posey's size and athleticism he would be do pretty good as SG as he would be big enough to guard alot of the twos in the league. At least he could not do worse than Mobley. And i am not saying Mobley was terrible, i just see Posey as a better defender, and he could at least make the opposing SG's work harder.
I know what you mean though, but i would not mind seeing him as a two, especially if what Doc says will happen, we would be bringing in a veteran SG from the east who hopefully would be a good shooter and more importantly a TEAM player. Thats why i like Posey so much. He gets his points because of his HARD work, and not because he demands the ball. The rockets need more players like Posey. These sort of players allow Championship calibre teams become what they are because they are more concerned with doing what is necessary for the team rather than themselves.

The proposed trade will excite few people. Ho Hum. This team needs a number of rim-rattling, block buster, knock out PR, woopee kind of trades.

Thanks for the reply, BigSexy. I like Posey very much as well, I just don't know if he can slide to the 2 for extended minutes. Maybe, maybe no. :) I hope we resign him for a reasonable amount. Like I said, I'm not interested in Robinson. We are full-bore into the offseason already! THAT is fun, all things considered.

glen robinson is horrible. if he cant produce on one of the worst teams, he's not gonna help us. maybe if he got in better shape or something, but i'd say rice is just as good of an option. we dont need a 20 ppg scorer, becuase yao is gonna average 40 per game next year anyway.

Me too. Better defender, better handles, better passer......and probably less money. Make that trade.

40ppg?! You been hanging out with EG?

I dont know much about Robinson, that is about how good he is, but I would rather see another player for the rockets to take.

Brand...which is just a dream, but man. how perfect that would be. maybe Odom.

just a little bit of #3, which Glen is better at that anyways. Don't let the dog out! He won't hunt!

I'd be happy with that. The only thing missing is someone to run the break. I'd still rather see Odom and Brand at the forward slots, and then bring in a shooter at the 2, with Odom running the break and Posey and Barry as backup 2/3's.

You make some good points about Ratliff. I like him too and think he would make a good fit next to Yao providing he is completely recovered from injuries and not damaged goods.

Big Dog over Odom? No way man. Odom is much better defensively than Big Dog and he's not a wit behind him as a shooter. Besides he is way more creative offensively and can handle on the break. GRob can't do that.

And I wouldn't include Cato in any trade for Ratliff. They are identical players to me except Ratliff may be able to go out on the floor better with the shooting 4's and Cato has been healthier. That would be a wash.

Here's what the Rockets need to do. Trade MoTay to a 3rd team for cap fodder. Send that cap fodder plus Rice, Eddie, Nachbar, and maybe Cato, ...........whatever we need to make the salaries work, for Odom and Brand. Then we have Francis, Mobley, Odom, Brand, and Yao. We got Yao and Brand blocking shots, banging the boards, and we got Odom taking the outlet pass down the middle of the floor with Francis and Mobley running the wings. And when we ain't running other teams out the building, we can post up with Yao and Brand. We got TMo, some cheap backup center, and Posey on the bench, with a couple more FA's, like Brian Shaw or something. Can you say championship? How about championships?????

THe Clips get a very good starting center, close to Olawakandi, they get a possible up and coming Eddie to play the 4, they get Rice's contract to mess with, they get a possible slasher gunner in Boki to replace Maggette. Why wouldn't they do a deal like that and let us keep Mobley? I want to see Francis and Mobley on the wings with Odom running the break. And to really run teams out the gym, just take out Yao or Brand for a few minutes when matchups allow for it, bring Posey in, and run, run, run like no tomorrow. Why can't we do this if we find out some way to get out from under Rice, Cato, and MoTay's contracts?

    Ratliff is a better 4/5.

I'd trade Griff and Cato for Ratliff and their pick.

    Ming/Ratliff
    MoT/Ratliff

That's big, versatile, and very talented. Enough minutes to go around.

Sane, jopatmc--thanks for picking up the Ratliff line.

Having Ratliff, who can play the 4 or 5--makes Cato expendable--plus Atl needs another center anyway. Cato is a couple years younger, healthier, and bigger (true center size) thus Atl may have some interest in him. I think we would from our end too. We should have no illusions Ratliff is as formidable as he was 2-3 years ago--but he is still only around 30 and has great block and good rebound numbers--and unlike Cato probably has enough offensive skills to play the 4. Ratliff I think also only has 1 year left, maybe he has an option for another--so Atl might want to move him versus lose him for nothing. Plus, if he doesn't pan out for us--in 2 years he is off the books or we sign him at a much lower price.

However I don't think Atl would give up their draft pick (probably #8) and Ratliff for Griff and Cato. Maybe they would if we gave them a future #1 though. This deal I think would look even better for them if they can move either the Big Dog or SAR one way or the other:

Ratliff + Big Dog + #8 pick for Rice, Cato and EG + future #1-- would be very tempting ....

....though I prefer if they move SAR or the Big Dog with some other team, thus it is just Ratliff + #8 for Cato & EG. I think I would go for that.

Anyone know how the Hawks view Ratliff's future with them and how he views them???

Ratliff is injury prone and has admitted that he may never fully recover from his hip problem.

He's a short term solution that can blow up in our face in 2-3 years.

I agree. I wouldn't take on Ratliff with his history of health problems. While Ratliff is an upgrade on Cato it is not a significant upgrade on THIS team. I wouldn't throw away Griffin for it.

I hope houston does anything to mobley out of town.
it doesn't matter if its rice and mobley for robinson and
a 1st round pick, for a two piece and a biscut.
