More than likely the lane agility consisted of a couple cones on the court that each player had to sprint around and pivot to the next cone. That is normally how agility tests are conducted. It is how quick you pivot and change directions, it doesn't have a whole lot to do with lateral movement. If they did test that(somehow) Brewer would probably test out better. That does not surprise me that Reddick can change directions and pivot that fast cause that is how he gets so open without the ball.
Brewer is more athletic than Redick but NOT THAT much more athletic. It's a lot harder to move 6-7 225 than it is to move 6-5 190 laterally. It's just basic bio mechanics and physics. Redick can be less athletic and certainly be quicer laterally with that size difference, but most people here seem convinced that bigger = quicker or something.
Here are some "basic bio mechanics and physics": Ron Artest is 6-7 260lbs & Kobe Bryant is 6-6 220lbs and I bet both are more athletic than Redick in every measurable category. The point is simplistic bio mechanics and physics the way you suggest them don't apply to today's athletes. Using you logic, Redick should be able to get higher off the ground because he's lighter. Here is a basic fact: It is VERY easy for someone 6-7 225lbs to do a LOT of things someone 6-5 190lbs cannot do. If you have ever been on the court with someone 35lbs heavier and a couple of inches taller than you then you would understand the concept. Believe whatever you want RD but some of the stuff you say to defend and pump up Redick is ridiculous.
I personally think Reddick's shooting is amazing and something that the Rockets desperately lack. However, we cannot spend the number 8 pick of the draft to select him. If thats the case, why not trade down and get at least a mid-to-low second round pick also. Reddick was one of the few college players, along with Morrison and Farmer, that I actually watched and I don't think he will have as pleasant a time on this Rockets organization. Reasons: 1. NBA SGs he will face: Kobe, Carmelo, Wade, Wally Z., etc etc etc. This people will murder him on offense and our points guards are already too small to have them guard the SG spot. So that would mean having to play TMAc on these guys night in and night out in addition to demanding all that offense from him. Not a good scenario. 2. Our team is in desperate need of an athlete with good shooting. Not a good shooter with good athletic skills. The reasons for not drafting Reddick is greater than the arguments against drafting Brewer. So they argument against Reddick is that hes just not worth the risk-reward option when compared to the other possible options we have at the number 8 spot.
Did you read the draft express article on the past results for these tests, and how off base they were? Watching game tape, there is no way you can argue that JJ is more agile than Brewer. These same results said TJ Ford had slower footspeed than Chris Kaman in a previous year. If you want to argue that JJ is a better choice and that you don't have to be a stud athlete to succeed (ala Bird), that's cool. But don't rely on these tests as support when game tape doesn't show that and these tests have had silly results before.
I'm saying you are making that judgement (that he is more athletic) based on these tests, when someone just plenty of examples to show how silly the results can be (i.e Ford vs Kaman). Unless you were saying JJ is more agile prior to these test results.
No I never made a claim like that. All I said was Redick could move from one side to the other a bit quicker which is not surprising because he is quick and he's smaller. I never said anything about him being a better athlete.
we are talking about the rockets here. how great would it be to buy out seattle's pick at #10 and draft both redick and brewer? that would be fan-freaking-tastic, but lets be honest, its the rockets. other than yao, the last good thing to come out a draft was stevie. expect more of the same. i'm saying we screw up and pick that guy out of bradley or someone rediculous like that.
When Houston Plays Denver, TMac is never on Melo. We depend too much on his offense so it is usually Wesley that is guarding him. Therefore, I was thinking in terms of how our defensive sets would look like with a lineup of Reddick at 2 and TMac at 3. There is no one in here that in there right mind would think that Reddick could even hold on to Melo's shoe strings on D. Sooner or later, you are gonna have to run into Wade. Just another example I was trying to give. Kobe and Reddick don't deserve to go in the same sentence b/c if we every see those two names in one sentence, it would probably be something like: Kobe put a beautiful move on Reddick, before driving past him and throwing down a two handed dunk. But i think you still got the point that there are too many questions about Reddick that makes you think twice. We need his shooting, but how much are we willing to give up to get that shooting. If Brewer is available, are we willing to give up his athleticisim for Reddick's shooting? If one of the top six is available do we go with the potential or the shooter?
You are worried about how we match up against Denver???? You couldn't pick another team to be worried about matchups with, such as Dallas or San Antonio or Memphis?? Denver?? We had Wesley guarding Melo last year. So, it sure isn't going to be much worse with J.J. on him. Besides that, we will play defense against Melo the same way we play against Kobe and every other superstar. We will throw whoever is playing the 2 on him and attempt to deny him the basketball. IF he gets hot, then we throw TMac on him provided the game is close and it is winning time. If the game is not close or we are too far away from the finish line, we are just going to keep throwing out defenders on the floor and how to contain those types of guys by forcing everybody else to take bad shots. Besides that, we ARE going to have a defensive stopper. Don't kid yourself, we are going to get a long rangy player that will D it up to help out on those types of guys.
well... all i gotta say is IF we could some how/way trade up into the top 4 and get GAY. Gosh.... we run away laughing he is the combonition of atheletic freak/basketball IQ player this team could use. the coach at uconn doesnt have a system in place for players to shine like superstar freaks... but always produces great/stable players into the nba. i just believe with gay and mcgrady playing alongside... our offensvie would be so quick to strike. gay can take it to the lane and shoot it anywhere on the floor. people knock him on his unispiring play at times...but the nba does a good job of challenging good players...and i think gay has the talent and the willpower to rise up for the occasion. thats all i have to say. note, im not in anyway or form a uconn fan... im a texas fan, but i am speaking as a rockets fan. just my thoughts
