Brent Barry?? On a four year contract? I don't think so. Perhaps five years ago maybe but not now. It'd be Matt Maloney part 2.. stick with Sura and Ward for now and see if u cant get anything better later on.

He had a bad stretch mid to late season and that coincided with SA losses. I don't think they were happy with inconsistency. He had a down Nov/Dec and March/April last year.

And he's not a better defender than Barry..they're equally poor..

Ford has ZERO credibility. Hence this thread has zero credibility because it has his artical. No offense to any posters...

Barry would be another Kerr for Spurs in playoff.
But is he worth 4 year MLE? no, at least not for Rox

Barry is not what this team needs.

The first thing we need is a rebounding PF defender that can handle the ball. The question is - Who is available that could fit the mold perfectly? Lobbing up 3's will not win a championship.

Oh and the 2nd thing we need would require JVG to leave - sorry:(

Yeah, I know you were mocking me Smeg for wanting Barry, but I still think he is an excellent guard who could do a lot for us.

Barry's defense may be an issue, but it's not the reason he's not playing in my opinion. He's just flat out cold right now ... I discussed this in an earlier post, but Barry was at 38% from long range and since that point, is riding a current 1-22 slump from long range. I have to think this played a huge part in him seeing his minutes reduced.

Remember, we took Sura and Charlie Ward (a 3-year deal ... still mind-boggling) over Barry. Would anyone here not deal Ward and Sura for Barry right now? Sura's rebounding and defense is certainly better than Barry's, and arguably fits better in JVG's drop-the-damn-ball-and-get-back-on-defense offensive game plan, but atleast Barry has a chance of grazing rim on a wide open three ball and I'm not so confident we can say that about Sura.

I like Barry, but the way he has fit in to the Spurs right now does give me some pause of how he would be utilized here given JVG. With him gone, no question I would love to have Barry.

I've always liked the idea of Barry and T-Mac in the backcourt.

I'll agree that I'd take Barry here...but that 4 year contract would be terrible to deal with and just isn't worth the upgrade at this point. Is Barry the missing link to a championship? Not even close.. Upgrading for the present and hurting the future with another 2 years (since Ward's 3rd year is option) doesn't make much sense.

Also, I still believe Sura can be a decent 3 pt shooter come mid-January or so. Not spectacular of course, but good enough to make the WIDE open ones and keep defenses a little more honest.

If Spurs are willing to take Ward and Gaines (or Lue) for Barry, I will do it.

truely Clutch iwouldn't have minded getting him, but a 4 year deal really put me off, plus I was not sure he could handle starters minutes for much past this season

but we signed Ward for 3 years so really not sure how bad 4 would have been.... i pretty much agree with you, i wanted NO part of Ward he was done last year (Jason Hart) and don't see what help his is at all, as for Sura i am really not sure, if the jumper was better he might be a great fit, or maybe when the back is better he would be a great 1/2 back-up off the bench, but not sure he is a starter.......

btw Ward's defense makes Barry's look like first team all defense :D

you are right he is terribly cold right now, but in a couple of games i saw it looked like Pop was on him for his defense, but nevertheless he looked like he was fitting in well on offense.

right now our back court could use any help it could get

normally i don't care about the coach and fell most of the time the blame for losses and poor form comes from the players, but i am just about ready to turn on JVGone......... TMac and Yao on their own should be able to be able to create enough offense for themselves and their teammates for us to be scoring close to 100 pts per game, i am really starting to doubt JVGone's ability to coach offense, so what if we only concede low 90s when we can only score less than 90 our selves, those numbers mean losses

actually the straw that broke the camels back for me is JVGone saying we need better outside shooting and then sending Boki to IR and saying Ward will help in this area......not sure what he is smoking in the TC office.....

i don't think we should be the knicks of the 90s or the methodical Spurs with 1-2 offensive punch we should have....

that being said our roster outside of Yao, TMac is rather ordinary

Trade Juwan Howard, Nachbar, Mutombo, Jackson , Ward, etc.

Bring in Brent Barry, Nene, Jalen Rose, and Eddie Najera...

5 - Yao Ming , Nene Hilario
4 - Maurice Taylor , Eddie Najera
3 - Jalen Rose - Bowen
2 - Tracy Mcgrady
1 - Brent Barry - Bobby Sura

Thats a relatively young, fast paced team you got there, sally....

UPDATE:

Justin (Portland): I just heard that the Spurs are holding a press conference later today to announce the signing of Karl Malone? Have you heard anything about this?

Marc Stein: (2:05 PM ET ) You heard wrong. The Spurs are having a press conference today, but I'm told it is NOT a Malone press conference. And it does NOT involve the current roster.
