My 2cents on aquiring Nene -

This team is behind 4 others 5 games back of the 8 spot. They likely have to go 20-5 over the last 25 games to readh #8. Considering they havent been able to mask theor flaws thus far , what reason do they or we have to expect that they can do so over the final 25.

Nene Doesnt make this team a 20-5 team.

Considering he has the option to opt out after the season ends and it would likely take ~$11m or better to keep him along with still being a couple pieces away - It makes no sense to send Denver assets for him.

Instead , Look for a younger player who can develop at either of the two weakest positions - C and SF while looking to fill the other in the offseason.

There are several centers who will be on the market between now and October. No real need to bother with Nene.

Acquiring Nene is not for this year, in my opinion...

If you can lock up a top 10 center for our crappy "picks & prospects", you do it.

I don't think Daryl Morey wants to trade for Nene to resurrect our playoff hopes in 2011. He wants to trade for Nene to make us a better team, both this year AND in the future (future being the key part of the deal here.)

Does Nene make us a playoff team this year? No. Contender? No. Does he make us a better team going forward? Yes. And that's really what the trade is all about. Depending on whose involved, it would make a lot of sense to send young guys like Hill, Budinger, Lee for Nene. Those guys are replaceable; a legitimate center isn't.

I think it is highly unlikely that Nene opts out of his contract, as he won't know the new CBA rules. He's set to make $11.6M next year -- a hefty sum to just leave at the table. I don't see him opting out; but I do see the Rockets working on an extension with him next year when the CBA is renegotiated.

Nene is a clear upgrade he's got size and heart and he's physical something the current team lacks imo. I would like to get Nene/Randolph/Whiteside. The team needs as much size as possible i don't really care about a team who only plays to trade baskets.

Yes , Nene is an upgrade.

Whats it gonna take to get him from Denver.

    Will he opt out ?

Whats it take to resign him ?

How does him along with Scola and Martin all around $11m per affect your cap going forward ?

Nene is a more a move made by a contender to make a deep run , not a rebuilding team thats likely lottery bound unless they somehow pull off a miracle run of .800 ball from here on.

Not a big fan of nene. He is pretty solid offensively around the basket, but I would rather have the kind of center that can lead the team in blocks and rebounds and be a strong force defensively in the paint. Serge Ibaka is a little smaller but gets more than 2 blocks and about 7 boards a game while playing less minutes than nene ( think he gets about 25 or so ). That is the kind of player I would be interested in.

I agree that Ibaka would be a much better player to pick up, but there's pretty much no way the Thunder are going to give him up.

Oh I completely agree. Wishful thinking. Like I said nene is pretty solid offensively, but I wish they could pick up someone that could have a similar impact defensively. Its sick because I bet ibaka could pack on a considerable amount of weight, similar to Dwight, and just go beast mode. He has the frame for it.

Besides, it seems most agree Nene is a good offensive player, but maybe it's just me, but offense isn't nearly the problem that the defense is IMO.

IF the rockets were playing good team defense and let's say fighting for the 4th or 5th spot, then yes, I could see it helping, and being worth it possibly.

BUT, for the money Nene will want, and let's be real, wherever he goes he's most likely gonna get it, Nene isn't worth picking up IMO.

Nene to Scola: You gonna pick him up?
Scola to Nene: ummmm...my hairs in the way?
Nene to Scola: dude, come on...I need a water break
Scola to Nene: but, you've had 32 breaks already?!?!?
Nene to Scola: Sorry man, I've got Patrick Ewing Disease...rehydration is a must
Scola to Nene: This is soooooo not fair, it's the 3rd quarter and I already have 4 rebounds!!!!...
Nene to Scola: b*stard, stop trying to make me look bad bro!
Scola to Nene: you let him score?!?!?
Nene to Scola: Sorry man, Rick was talking about retiring together and opening up our own bait shop...I got sidetracked...never happen again, scouts honor.

Rick to both players: Hey! You guys look like you need a break!
    Scola: Bingo!
    Nene: East bound and down!

Six back to backs .... those are never easy.

12 teams .500 or better. Whats their record against .500 or better teams so far ? Im not gonna bother to look but I'd wager its considerably lower than their overall winning percentage.

What moves are made at the deadline ? Then you have guy's who havent played together , dont know the system .... feeling their way thru the remainder of the season.

Im not optimistic about their making the playoffs - They simply waited too long (or were forced to by things outside their control) to make a move. If they were playing for this year , the move needed to be made in December.
This team is looking to build for next season and beyond.

So, according to this thread, we turn down a deal for a top 10, 270lb, 6-11 Center that plays solid, physical team defense, can shoot the jumper, finish everything around the rim, and pass from the highpost. Oh, and he is 28 years young, fitting in perfectly with Kevin Martin and Luis Scola for the next 5 years.

    Makes sense...

I am all for getting Nene IF he is willing to sign an extension with us. If we get Nene now and suck it up, he is just going to be another rental go to another team at the end of the season.

best case scenario imagine a yao/nene front line. incredibly efficient, and a yin and yang of finesse and brute strength.

I'm not sure he's a great fit with Scola (need a rim protector...), but it would make for an interesting topic of discussion should we acquire Nene.

I'd be intrigued by the idea of acquiring Nene and still going hard after Perkins or D. Jordan and starting Nene at PF -- that would really be a great defensive front court.
