Hollinger has been completely wrong with his playoff prediction last 3 years using his PER. You can cook whatever stats you want, but if it's useless, why bother.

According to his in-depth statistical analysis, Utah was going to take down LA in the conference semis last year... it just so happened that the Lakers steamrolled through the j*zz in 4 games.

Not to mention, he had Suns-Cavaliers in the Finals.

    Thanks for sharing.

Honestly I haven't payed much attention to Arthur but going from bad (let's say a minus 7) to good (let's say a plus 2) is less distinguishable than going from good (let's say a plus 2) to very good (let's say plus 6). In conclusion I think, most of the times you will need to have a breakout year to be considered for the MIP, Arthur's season is hardly that, specially taking his minutes into account.

Hollinger puts way too much emphasis on individual stats in a team sport.

    Chew on this:

Both Ryan Anderson and Birdman have a higher PER than Monta Ellis, Eric Gordon, Luis Scola, Carlos Boozer, Ty Lawson, and Serge Ibaka.

Earl Boykins has a higher PER than Rajon Rondo and Iggy.

Also, Brad Miller has a higher PER than Jason Terry, Gerald Wallace, Chuck Hayes (!), Gallo, and Emeka Okafor.

Is Hollinger watching the same game that we are?

You have posted this again and again despite the fact that every time you do someone points out that you are wrong. Hollinger's team rankings have absolutely nothing to do with PER. It is based on scoring margin and strength of schedule, with an emphasis put on more recent games.

The fact that some teams have improved and others gotten worse once the postseason starts does not at all invalidate his PER metric, which again, has nothing to do with his playoff predictions.

With Phoenix, he wasn't too far off. They did take the Lakers to six games in the conference Finals. Most people didn't think they would get past the second round.

As for Cleveland, perhaps he should have included a parameter in his team rankings that takes into account what happens when the team's best player finds out during the playoffs that his teammate has been banging his mom and everyone around him is hiding it from him.

It's hilarious how many people don't understand what PER is.

Houston's very own Calvin Murphy appeared on 97.5 and said "it ain't no rumor":
