don't know all the aspects of his formula, but i do know it takes into account avg point margin of loss and difficulty of a teams schedule.

anyone else care to shed some insight??

Must be Morey's mathematical formula.....doesn't translate to real life.

Hollinger is just stating the obvious. The team is much better than their record shows.

Great, now if we can just get Stern to organize the playoffs off these rankings instead of that pesky won-loss record.....

I remember how great the 1-4 Cowboys were too. If this continues, I really think the wheels will fall off and everything will just spiral. The Nets were not THAT bad...but when you keep losing game after game, it seems you get into the habit of losing.

Title is misleading, he isn't saying that we're better than those teams. It's just that, according to his calculations, we're "ahead" of those teams, not better. Even if he is saying that we're better, it doesn't really matter. Sure, we're better than our record shows. We're still not anywhere near where we should be, and it doesn't even seem like we're heading in the right direction. The point is, we're not winning games we should be winning, regardless of who we're playing.

    This guy is an IDIOT.

Utah, the hottest team in the NBA now, comming off wins in Orlando and Miami back to back. And they are that low.

    The same goes with SPurs...

I don't know about the Hawks or the Spurs, but the Jazz are simply relentless and unbelievably clutch. They're just refusing to lose at this point. Back to back wins against Miami & Orlando? Whoever says they aren't contenders should be shot.

I'll agreee, I think Spurs and Jazz are off to a hot start.... especially the spurs but I think they'll normalize a bit. I am not sure if the ROX are better than them both but it seems that each team has a few players that are finally starting to fit in.... Millsap and Jefferson. I think the Hawks are what they were last years with maybe a trade by feb for cap relief which will cause them to slip a bit towards the second half of the season.

The Jazz would cream us if we played them anytime soon.

I could see us getting back on track and getting wins against the Spurs or Hawks.

This team just doesn't have a unified look to it right now. We added pieces to a good team and have somehow stumbled backwards.

Only Scola and Martin look strong to me right now.

The difference between the Jazz and Rockets is all in the fourth quarter. They finish, Rockets don't.

The 1-4 Cowboys analogy plays some as well. At some point, despite projections and talent and so on, losses start to take their toll.

That said, the Rockets at 1-6 is like a team being 0-2 in football. Much too early to write things off but certainly not the kind of start that instills longterm confidence.

Cleverly disguised I heart jazz thread, from the looks of some responses.
