    yeah,
if you get paid millions. if you have a SAM CASSELL attitude, thinking that you can help a team that has been an underdog, a CHOKE CITY, to become a contender. yes.

would you play for the Gongdong Tigers?

Looks like the relationship with China might start to crumble.

    I feel sorry for Yi.

For the amount of money Scola is earning now I wouldn't call that a significant upgrade over Tau. So in certain cases, a player could play both sides of the fence from a negotiating standpoint.

In Yi's case he basically doesn't have a choice. He has to do what his club allows him to do and the Chinese Gov't is sure to get involved too.

Nice theory, but the only problem is that basketball will never even come close to the popularity of soccer in other parts of the world. Scrubs like Yi and Spanoulis might be able to stay home and make similar money to what they would make in the NBA, but the best players will never make a comparable salary in their home country as opposed to the NBA. There simply isn't the money avaiable. International teams don't play as many games as NBA teams do, and they sure as hell don't charge five figures a year for luxury boxes, so there isn't as much ticket revenue. Plus, they don't get near the amount of TV revenue that soccer clubs get.

Trust me, the NBA will manage to survive without Yi and Spanoulis...

    seriously,

look i like china its a nice place, whenever i go to walmart, i know i'm helping out some people over there by buying their cheap products as opposed to the overpriced japanese stuff like PLAYSTATION 3.

I hope the best for Yi. I hope he stays in china and goes to the chinese red lobster and eat tons of chinese seafood and never get dunked on by NBA legends like Ronaldo Balkman and Rudy Gay.

I hope Yi gets to watch Pirates of the Carribean and get confused by the plot.

Most of all, I hope Yi gets a nice cheap Akai HDTV from Walmart and sit down in his tiny village home and watch Yao Ming dunk on everybody and drive home in his tricked CADDY to his GIGANTIC HOUSE filled with HIGH END JAPANESE ELECTRONICS and watch NON CENSORED MOVIES and surf Clutchfans with PRYUEN on his APPLE COMPUTER !!!!

Yao, buy Yi a Garmin GPS so he punch in this address, "1 GONGDONG TIGER AVE, CHINA " cause the word "NBA ARENA" will NEVER SHOW UP!!!

Completely laughable actions by the Yi's Chinese team. I hope the bucks stick to their guns and don't trade him no matter what. If they're worried about Yi's development wait until the bucks don't trade him and he has to sit out an entire year without playing, that or he has to play in a non-FIBA league. Not playing the year before the Olympics would be great for his development.

i think stern needs to make an example out of yi. Ban him from the NBA. I know yi being from china is different because they can control what he does but it sets the table to prevent some unproven putz from thinking he actually deserves anything in the nba.

LOL Stern won't do that. He salivates over moving the NBA into China.

i agree with you on most part. and personally, i'm getting sick of people bashing yi or his handlers. it's all business. when i'm looking for jobs, i don't end up working for people i don't want work for. i always pick the best offer that i think suits me the best. so i think yi and his handlers can do whatever they think the best for him. just like free agency, players pick their own team. maybe something like, lottery teams can give offers to new players first. and non lottery teams have to wait til they are done signing. so players have some choice in which teams they wanna go. and also, flexible with money. i think a lot players career got destroyed cause they went to a team who didn't develop them.

Yeah but Scola is considerred the top player in Europe and that's all he's getting paid, it's less than the MLE. Have you seen how much NBA FA with even a hint of productivity are getting paid these days? I do believe foreign leagues will be able start paying some of the top dollar like soccer. But it will be a while before the salaries become close to comparable.

80+% of the NBA would collapse under a system like this.

The reason there is a draft is to promote parity in the league. That would be impossible with new players always being able to choose which team they play for.

well, i said lottery teams sign new players first. i just made it rignt now, not saying it's the way to go. if you think about it, 13 bad teams, sign good players first. good teams can't do anything, until the first wave of signing is finished. i think nba would still be balanced. and teams can't tank anymore. all teams can go for playoffs. and if you miss the playoffs, you end up joining 13/14 other teams with lottery signing. i don't think there is anything wrong with that.

So everyone is rooting for Yi's flop right now?

Yi probabaly will be a bust even he manages to play in NBA. I believe that. But won't that make Bucks even more stupid considering they already spent a No 6 draft and are trying so hard to get a bust or nothing (if Yi stays in China).

Oooohkaaay. "Stupid NBA monopoly", huh? Let's find out who is really stupid: Please define monopoly and then explain how the NBA is a monopoly when there are basketball leagues around the "world". In fact, American basketball players play in some of these leagues and do quite well, despite the "stupid NBA monopoly".

The whole development angle is just a ruse. The Chinese government just wants him to go to a city with a significant Chinese population. Why? Because that will increase Yi's popularity and exposure. That means more revenue from jersey sales and other things as Yi develops in the NBA.

Most of Yi's fans in China oppose what's going on though. They feel that since Yi was drafted by the Bucks, he should play for the Bucks. Yi doesn't seem to care and just wants to play in the NBA. It's Yi's handlers that's causing all the trouble. Then again, this tactic has worked before with Francis, Eli Manning, Kobe, Elway, etc., so you can't really blame the Yi's managers from trying this.
