anyone think this will be reduced? even though the union did agree to discipline, I can't see them not fighting suspensions that are this long.
true. even though i dont think the union could stop the league, i do remember hearing that they were for it.
Hasn't Chris Henry been arrested more times? Seems like Pacman has just caused more of a stir with the media and his teammates.
Wow...Talk about zero tolerance...I think he's just letting it be known that if you f up, you'll be sitting on the sidelines... What about the cap? Do the Titans still owe him the money? I would think not, but that'll be up to the NFLPA...
Wow!! Glad to see Goodell sending a message to the league but the entire season is a shock to me. I expect to see some kind of appeal (if there is one).
exactly, there has to be some standards. its no way this suspension holds. maybe a few games, there are clauses in the contracts about behavior. the guy hasn't been convicted, and this is retroactive rule making. no way it holds.
while i sort of agree with it i don't understand how this can hold up without any proof (ie) a conviction.
It seems like it'd be hard to have it not hold up if both the NFL and the NFLPA agree with the suspension.
while that's true, i'm like emjohn in that i think he did do everything they say he did, and he probably deserves a year of punishment and to think about not acting like an idiot/scumbag any more (especially since it is indirectly his fault that someone got paralyzed), but i still don't see how they can really get away with this. what conduct are they actually suspending him for? conduct that looks bad in the media? b/c without any sort of conviction, unless goodell was standing there watching while he did all this, i don't see what they can actually say he did. i know this isn't court and they don't have to have proof beyond a reasonable doubt, but it would seem you need something to happen legally first before you could hand down this type of punishment. basically they're saying we can end your career when we want if we don't like how something looks, no matter what actually happened (like emjohn's Duke rape case example).
The whole thing is un-American IMO. If guys can play football and are not in jail or on probation that would prevent them from doing so they should be allowed to play football. Let the legal system and civil system punish Pacman. If pro sports go on acting like this in regards to off the field/court behaviors on the players own time they should lose protected status.
I guess West Virginia is kind of notorious for taking in bad players. A very highly touted RB out of Florida (Noel Devine) just committed there, will most likely have to attend a prep school to get his grades up. Just about every big D-1 school stopped recruiting him because of his grades and conduct. IIRC...Devine was about to be adopted by Deion Sanders until Devine apparently stole his Escalade. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vx9CFYw22E * Music NSFW
There is no due process in private enterprise. The NFL can do anything that's allowed under the US Constitution and their CBA. There are all manner of corporations that can & will fire you on the spot for being accused/implicated in criminal behavior. Not saying it's right or wrong, but that's just how it is.
