Based on your standard the ranking is meaningless, there can be only one champion, why bother? The ranking shows which gm is relatively better than others, saying "he's still not good enough to be no.1” doesn't mean he can't be top 5.

Hinkie is top 5 IMO. He has done exactly what he has set out to do. If Morey didn't hit the H and H lotto, and was given the green light to tank, he be doing the same thing.

Hinkie will have like 20 picks in the next few years, and with a little luck two of the top 6 picks this year.

As an NBA fan only, there are really only two things to get excited about, wins and potential. No team has more potential than the 76'ers.

Also, Philly should become good around the time Lebron starts to decline.

Rockets haven't had a losing season since 05-06.

That's a decade of winning more games than losing.

"But Ender120, how many championships have we won?"

None in that time, but since then, only the Spurs, Heat, Lakers, Mavs, and Celtics have won championships.

Every year, 29 teams out of 30 go home disappointed.

    If we win, cool.

If we don't, it's still a fun sport to watch.

    Stop acting entitled.

So what you're saying is that Donald Sterling has more playoff series victories than Les Alexander in this century. Boy are we entitled!

Wrong. You're ranked by taking steps toward a title contending team. What the Nets did 2 years ago should hurt their rating not improve it, despite the team actually getting immediately better.

Wow. Surprised everyone thinks so low of the cavs. You don't think acquiring three players mid season (jr smith mozgov and shumpert) that completely changed the dynamic of the team is something to be proud of?

Why should we care where they rank, especially by ESPN? We know Morey has done a great job with, especially given the situation and problems he had to deal with:
    - 2007-08: lot of PGs, overpaid players and Yao going down
    - 2008-09: Tracy drama and Yao going down again
    - 2009-10: Yao going down for good!
    - 2010-12: treading water with limited options at roster improvement

After landing Harden, we just improved every year while maintaining flexibility. That was cool for the last 2 years, not so much this year and the next few. We should've gone all in during the summer, not 'give up' after Melo & Bosh turned us down. That is the only knock on Morey for me.

Still it should not matter, while the winning seasons were great and proves our front office and this franchise is doing very well, it's all about winning that trophy now.

if you haven't noticed but Lebron has already started his decline. albeit he still a very good player right now but his decline has already started and it shows this season.

that potential is nothing unless philly shows that they have a star or star in the making. at the moment, there's nothing in philly to get exicted about.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, no one thought he was a top 5 player, including Morey who said if I knew James Harden was going to be this good i'd have given 4 more 1st round picks. People criticised Morey for the trade, and it was either ibaka or harden - which is more valuable to the team?

Honestly it just happened that the worse case scenario happened for presti. Look at what he's done without going over the cap, it's outstanding. KD signed when they were in seattle - presti is the father and creator of OKC

They paid Perkins about $4m less than Harden has been paid over the last 3 years, add in Jeremy Lamb (so not even Adams who is at least not awful) and they've paid more. Sure you can believe the choice was Ibaka though, they'd really like you to believe that.

Nothing to be excited about? Rockets fans are drooling over the 13th pick we will likely receive from NO and consider it our best trade asset. Philly with a little luck will have 3 top-6 players hitting the court next season.(2015 1st and 6th pick and Embid)

Look I'm a Daryl Morey fan, but lets be real here. The amount of praise and adulation he gets isnt not equal to the level of success his team has been able to achieve during his tenure.

Morey has been great at making the big splashes and getting the big name, whether it be by acquiring James Harden through trade or Dwright Howard through Free Agency. He's also been one of the best in the league at making the smaller splashes such as smart investment in 2nd round picks/drafts, acquiring assets, undervalued players young and old and making effective trades.

Unfortunately the results of all these smart transaction is not that far off from the team he inherited; a 4/5 seed in good years or 8/9th seeds in bad, and with only ONE lonely playoff series success in the past 7 years.

If the argument is Morey has done a good job of transitioning the Rockets from Yao to Lowry to Harden, I'd agree. But if the argument is that Morey has performed at a top 3 or even 5 level at his position, I'd have to disagree based solely on the results. Morey doesn't need to win Championships to be a top 5 gm, but at the very least demonstrate some real improvement and playoff achievements. During Morey's tenure, Just in the Western Conference the Grizzly, Mavs, Warriors, Clippers, Spurs, Lakers, Blazers, Thunders have had more playoff success.
