My problem with the guy is how he handled the situation. He signed a contract in July/August and then waits until the last minute to attempt to get leverage. This entire ordeal could have been avoided, but the more information that comes out, the more it seems like this is exactly what he wanted. Leverage, news stories, ESPN interviews, etc. Royce's conduct has been about his CHARACTER and very little to do with anxiety. At this point any goodwill he had with me (including sympathy for his disorder) is gone. He needs to deliver.
if he fails, in terms of anything but your own personal sense of order in the universe, does it really matter why? You very politely but clearly communicate to him that unavoidable disruptions can be lived with but avoidable ones are not acceptable in the long term and see if he can develop his personality in the same way you patiently try do develop a young player's jumper. Other players won't 'catch' Royce's anxiety, like a bad attitude can be catching.
Royce, just like me, you were able to fool prospective GMs regarding the extent of your mental problems. Ryan Leaf
He needs to trust the Rockets? He should wonder why the Rockets should trust him now. After the draft, he was always going on about how his flight anxiety wouldn't be a problem, that he'd be able to do everything normally. Then he misses out on camp, comes out on ESPN putting the Rockets in an awkward position. Trust goes both ways.
Royce had plenty of good will on his side, but he's acting pretty immature on twitter. We get the message dude, now be a professional and put a lid on it. You can't go getting into twitter wars with everybody who writes a column you disagree with. It makes you look petty and unsympathetic. In addition to giving credence to the article in question. The main tone of the article was positive and made me feel bad for Royce. His blowing up on twitter pretty much erases all that for me. Makes him look like an irrational hot head, and not a brave person involved in an involuntarily struggle. If he honestly does know the writer, he should call him up and talk about it. Set things straight. Would make for a great follow-up story.
I'm already tired of this guy. I wish him well in life and in managing his condition but I'm done caring about him as a member of the Rockets.
Interesting comment. People without anxiety issues don't understand it either and explains why so many people are fed up with him. Royce White has put himself high up on a pedestal. If he isn't successful, the theatrics will end up damaging the cause instead of helping.
I am completely off the Royce White bandwagon. I hope he does ok for the start of the season - enough for his trade value to rise (zero now) so that Morey can treat him like what he is - an ASSET - and ship him to the Kings or Bobcats (wallow in NBA-hell for a year or two, Royce!).
White is young, just 21. I'd cut him some slack. Live and learn. Unlike Dwight Howard, who will probably always be an overgrown child.
So did Vernon Maxwell. So did any number of NBA players with a ring. You try and manage it. If you can't you move on. I get that it is upsetting, but it is too early to write him off. You try to see if he can grow going forward.
Ok this is getting a little silly. Everyone backs you man and we all want to help your cause in whatever way we can, but lets not forget why your here in the first place. Nothing positive will come out of this if he doesn't perform well on the court. It's time to focus on basketball and next summer we can all march the streets of Houston for the cause all we want. However nobody will listen to him if he sucks it up on the court.
He's trying to say he's no longer hiding because of anxiety and facing this situation, that's why he's using #stophiding....it's his way of standing up for those who do hide behind their anxiety. That being said, he's been hiding from training camp all week.
I suppose it seems to me that sharing personal info on Twitter or Facebook always lands in the hands of people who find a way emasculate it. I didnt mean for news reporting or non-personal information sharing.
Agreed.I hope the veteran guys helps him a bit.i think in some ways he still immature considering the tweet he replied on a bleacher report on him..It's time for him to train his hardest & per4m on court. As Donatas said "Right now is the time to show that what I talk is not just talk" whether any of this happens, what matters is how well he performs.if he practices hard and shines on court, i think the criticisms will leave him.that's all that matters,yo.
