http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2533656 Texans CB Faggins breaks foot, out 6-10 weeks By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com The Houston Texans have lost starting cornerback DeMarcus Faggins for six to 10 weeks, likely sidelining him for at least the first month of the regular season, after the four-year veteran suffered a broken right foot. The injury, which occurred during a Friday training camp practice and was confirmed Saturday following an MRI exam, will require surgery. That will probably take place next week. Losing the fiesty Faggins, who started a career-high 10 games in 2005 after previously performing as a standout nickel defender for the Texans, means that Phillip Buchanon will return to the starting lineup at right cornerback. Dunta Robinson, the Texans' top player in the secondary, is the starting left cornerback. Buchanon, acquired last spring for second- and third-round draft picks, was a disappointment in his initial season in Houston, and the former Oakland Raiders' 2002 first-rounder lost his job to Faggins after the first month of the campaign. To compensate for the loss of Faggins, the Texans have reached a contract agreement in principle with veteran free agent Dexter McCleon, who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this spring. If he passes the team's physical exam, McCleon will sign before the end of the weekend. Details of his pending contract were not yet available. McCleon, 32, is a nine-year veteran with stints in St. Louis (1997-2002) and Kansas City (2003-2005). The former Clemson star has appeared in 131 games and has 30 interceptions and 63 passes defensed. McCleon started five games for the Chiefs in 2005 and has 84 career starts. It was somewhat surprising, given his experience, that no team signed McCleon after the Chiefs released him. But as is often the case with such unemployed veterans, sometimes it takes an injury, like the one that Faggins sustained, to get into training camp. Faggins, 27, has appeared in 39 games, starting 13. He has 98 career tackles, three interceptions and 18 passes defensed. A sixth-round pick in the 2002 draft, he has evolved from a practice squad player to a fluid cover cornerback.
That's sucks for Faggins...i Like Mecleon..yeah he's old but damn he was a very good player...maybe he might have a little left in the tank.
Crap. It's not like Faggins was great or anything, but cornerback is the one place we absolutely cannot afford to lose any depth (outside of QB, obviously). Hopefully McCleon can prove he belongs.
That would be an understatment. I was happy with Dunta, we were all happy with Buchanon until we saw him play...now we only have Dunta...I was very upset at the Aaron Glenn move...with his hard nosed play on one side and Dunta on the other we had a good start to a secondary...even though he is kind of old.
Glenn, while better than Buchannon, is merely a shadow of himself. He was pretty damn awful with the Cowboys last year.
But we can agree that Glenn even at his worst last year was better than Buchanon...at least Glenn could make a tackle.
i agree that secondary is by far the biggest weakness on the team. Although we're all making assumptions at this point that the O line is going to improve mearly by Kubiak being here, along with some slight changes. Glenn was definitely just a shadow of himself...and while better than Buchanon, probably not worth what he was asking for, so I don't mind the move. Plus, Glenn might not have lost the games Buchanon did for us, so we may not have gotten the top pick
The one positive out of the injury maybe that Buchanon gets a chance to start. While that may not sound like good news for some after his horrendous performances last year, it can actually turn out to be a good thing. The coaching staff has said that he looked very good in the OTA's, and much improved from what they saw on film last year. They said he has really improved on his tackling which was the reason for his ridicule.(2nd game of the season last year vs. Pittsburgh) I really wish him the best because if he gets it together and plays as well as he did at Miami, he can really help this team out.
