ESPN: Elie to become Mavs Assistant Coach

    DALLAS -- Mario Elie, who played on championship teams for the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs, was hired as an assistant coach by the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

    Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    Elie was an assistant coach with Golden State for the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. He also was an assistant with the Spurs for the 2003-04 season.

    He worked for FOX Sports Net last season as the host of the Houston Rockets' pregame and postgame shows.

    Elie averaged 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 732 regular-season games during an 11-year NBA career with Golden State, Philadelphia, Portland, Houston, San Antonio and Phoenix.

    He won two NBA championships with Houston (1994, 1995) and one with San Antonio (1999).

    Wasn't there something where he had an offer, took it, then came back, wanted more money, and Cuban said Elie would never work for the Mavs?

    You know I did hear about that, but looks like he is indeed going to Mavs. I would have liked to see what he could have done as an assistant with the rockets; I def don't like him going to the MAVS of all teams.

    Even though I don't like his team, good for him. AJ is an excellent coach and maybe Mario can learn enough from him to get his own opportunity.

    Or maybe he'll try Rafer to Spurs since Vspan to Spurs (to disrupt chemistry) didn't really pan out.
