    Associated Press

HOUSTON -- Former Houston Rockets and New Jersey Nets forward Eddie Griffin says his next team will be the Minnesota Timberwolves.

    Griffin

"I've got to make this work," the troubled player told Houston television station KRIV on Monday before catching a flight to Minneapolis. "They are a good team and the best fit out there."

Representatives of at least two teams, including the Timberwolves, had been in Houston last week to watch Griffin work out.

Kevin McHale, vice president of basketball operations for the Timberwolves, acknowledged some interest in Griffin.

"If I mess this up, it will give people the impression I am not trying to do the right thing," Griffin told the television station.

Griffin, the seventh pick overall in the 2001 NBA draft, missed the entire 2003-04 season because of ongoing legal battles and substance abuse issues. He has been working with former NBA coach John Lucas, who overcame his own substance abuse issues.

Griffin was given 18 months probation in March after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of deadly conduct. He was ordered to continue outpatient treatment for alcohol abuse.

Griffin also was fined $1,000 by a judge who suspended his driver's license for six months following a mar1juana conviction in January.

Why is there this gut feeling that Griffin will become a very good
    player?

Can we get him instead or would this be no good idea?

I guess he does need to start on a new team to become the player we wanted him to be. Damn.

Because he is an extremely athletic big man who has incredibly long arms and the potential to be a great shot blocker and at only twenty-two years old he hasn't even come close to tapping his potential.

    Eddie will punch Garnett?

I think not -- when has he ever shown fire on the court?

Wolves lost Gary Trent to the Bulls and replace him with Griffin. Wonder if McHale will teach Griffin some post moves?

    Good luck Eddie.

Heh... well... Usually, when you don't give up drugs, miss team flights, miss team practices, and beat up and shoot at your girlfriends....that kinda is a indicator that you're not trying to do the right thing.

    I don't buy it...YET.

Let's not forget, EG was very very far away from being a good offensive player. He still couldn't dribble the ball and had no post-up game. His entire play was based off his athletic ability and strong 3 point shot for his size.

Defensively, he was an awesome weak-side defender but only an average one-on-one defender.

Plus, we are now talking about the 3rd team he has been associated with. And we've had reports of people who have met him who claim that even he was confident that he was going to Miami or L.A.? Why didn't either of those teams pull through?

I'm not saying EG can't eventually become a decent player, but he is currently a fringe player being potentially picked up as a back-up PF to the PF MVP of the league.

agreed - click on any of the links in my posts. Rox fans think e.g. is going to be good because we still see him with the hopful eye of, well, Rox fans (he was OUR player first). To everyone else he has a lot to prove.

I still love the ESPN magazine article on him last season (right after he signed with the Nets) where is slammed the Rox and said he was ready for another chance... well, right after print that magazine was outdated and e.g. was on his way back to John Lucus-vilee
