Yep his hands and lateral quickness are atrocious. He's great, but Dwight has a lot more to work with offensively for McHale than Asik does.
And you have concluded this... how? Yes, that's irrelevant though, except for the fact McHale hasn't been able to fix it at all. And you have concluded this... how?
This How many times has Asik botched a pass? How many turnovers do we get trying to force feed Asik a bounce pass or and alley-oop? How many times do the Rockets refrain from passing to Asik bc of his ineptitude? Dwight would flourish with us.
Howard needs Houston just as bad as Houston needs Howard.. Immaturity, championship contention, bad post moves, back injury could be fixed here in Houston. This is what's best for Howard if he wants to win a championship. If not than he can try to be a movie star after his career is done in La
Why is everyone so against playing Asik at center and Howard at power forward? Am I missing something, or is it just a money issue? If it's a money issue, I would ship Lin out in a heartbeat for Howard...
It doesn't fit the Rockets offensive system at all. Howard and Asik would result in little to no spacing for Harden and Lin to penetrate, and the spacing on the outside would be terrible. If Howard becomes a Rocket, the Rockets will immediately attempt to fill the holes around Harden and Lin, and in order to do that, they will need to move Asik, probably for a 4.
To the first: You used Asik as the benchmark. By saying McHale couldn't help Asik offensively, you are implying that he would have zero impact on Howard, as if they are the same caliber of player with similar skill sets. To the second point: You can't really teach someone good hands... Remember Joey Dorsey? You either have it or you don't. McHale isn't a miracle worker. To the third: Howard is significantly more refined offensively than Asik. He isn't limited by clumsy hands and slow movement. McHale would have more to work with. How would that hurt him?
Whether McHale can "help" either of them has nothing to do with the caliber of player they are or their skill sets. Either McHale can teach (post/big-man) offense or he can't. With Asik, he has show he cannot, or has not yet. Not buying that, but irrelevant to the OP anyway. REEKO said Asik is an example of McHale teaching offense. I pointed out Asik has not improved offensively (and he hasn't). Discussion pretty much stops there.
No, and No. No team would ever be dumb enough to play these guys together ever. The only reason why Houston could play Hakeem and Sampson, and LA could play Bynum and Gasol together is Sampson and Gasol's ability to play the high post, and operate outside of the paint. Also from an offensive standpoint, Lin/Harden/Parsons would NEVER be able to attack the basket. Also, you really want two 50% free throw shooters on the floor in the post together at the same time? Are you insane? No, No, No. Is it financial? Not necessarily. I do think Asik would be moved, but its not necessarily about money. It would most likely be Morey's preference to sign Dwight outright as a free agent and AT A LATER DATE, move Asik for pieces that can help them win. Putting Asik back in a back-up roll is nice for the depth, but you can do much better with the pieces you can bring back in trade for potential wing or power forward help. Also, it would probably be Howard and Harden's preference to play alongside Jeremy Lin for many different reasons. I dont think he's getting traded unless they have to trade him, or his performance gets so lop-sided negatively that they have no choice but to entertain offers.
I hope Dwight Howard knows how beloved Yao Ming was here and he only made it out of the first round once. When you play in LA the whole country is watching you almost every night and judging your every move. In Houston he'll get talked about only for basketball.
Everyone expects him to stay in LA for the money the Lakers can give him and the endorsement deals. If he comes to H-Town, respect for him because it will be for love of the game and not the money. I doubt he comes with Nash and Kobe in his ear about being the man for one of the most storied franchises in NBA history and the chance to make much more than 30M than he can in Houston.
OTL podcast, at 16:00 Jalen Rose says Lakers are a mess and Dwight should go to Houston and play with Harden http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=9232688
You don't want the best center in the league? You rather stick with Asik? You rather give a max contract to Josh Smith? Think about.
I think rockets fans and clutchfans need to get on Dwight Howard twitter and convince him to come to Houston.
I don't get all of this endorsements/fame stuff. Kevin Durant plays in Oklahoma freakin' City and is widely popular and gets endorsement deals. It helps that he's the 2nd best player in the NBA, too. Note to Dwight - if you regain you status as one of the best, it won't matter where you play. I think he just has the battered stepchild syndrome since he came from one of the most obscure teams in the NBA and wanted all the attention. Hopefully he's over that.
