I'm not being a jerk, just thought I'd make that clear, I've actually heard the contract was 5 years 25 million (5 mill a year). I would really like to know where 8+ million comes from.
Maybe you'er confusing what you heard about JVG's contract? That's exactly the amount Cleveland offered JVG.
No, I'm not confusing it with Van Gundy. I know it's the same contract he was supposedly offered though. It was mentioned in an article and on the radio in Detroit.
It gets more bizarre by the minute. Now Carlisle looks to be going to Portland. http://www.detnews.com/2003/pistons/0305/31/pistons-179401.htm Carlisle could land in Portland By Rob Parker / The Detroit News Comment on this story Send this story to a friend Get Home Delivery AUBURN HILLS -- Rick Carlisle probably won't be without a job too long. Carlisle, fired by the Pistons on Saturday, could be signing on to coach the Portland Trail Blazers sometime this week. Carlisle's firing, after posting back-to-back 50-victory seasons in his first two years as a head coach, set off a chain reaction around the NBA. The Trail Blazers, who just this past week told the Philadelphia 76ers they wouldn't allow Coach Maurice Cheeks to interview there, have changed their minds. Cheeks, a former 76ers star and an assistant under Larry Brown, has given permission to talk to Philadelphia about Brown's old job. Brown will be introduced as the Pistons coach at a news conference as early as Monday. What sweetens the pot for Carlisle is the fact that the Trail Blazers are without a general manager. Bob Whitsitt resigned after this season. It's no secret that Carlisle, who was an NBA assistant for 11 seasons before coming to Detroit, would love a chance to both run an organization and coach it at the same time. "Maybe there's an opportunity with one of these jobs open that fits my particular profile," Carlisle said. "I don't know, but I guess I'll find out more about it the next seven days." Carlisle was an assistant for P.J. Carlesimo in Portland between 1994-97. The Trail Blazers went to the playoffs in each of those three seasons. Carlisle is known as a no- nonsense kind of leader. Many believe that's what that talented group of players need in Portland to get to the next step.
I don't get it. If Detroit is offering LB 8-9 million why can't the Rockets offer more? Why are we letting Detroit outspend the Rockets? Don't we have a money maker in Yao Ming on this team? Aren't we getting a new arena and new cash flow? Les has the chance to make a big splash with his coaching decision. Are we going to pass on Brown because we don't want to offer him a few more million a year? If we believe Brown is the man, then we need to by all costs get him. It is not like it counts against the salary cap!
Sounds to me more and more that Brown saw Houston as a second option. There was all the talk of the Clippers and now he looks like he is going to Detroit. If he doesn't want to be here, I don't freakin' want him here, simple as that.
Deuce, Actually, when considering cash flow, the new arena will probably hurt Les more than help for the 1st few years. Lets not forget that he has chipped in a great deal of his own money in this deal. Plus all the startup expenses that might not be covered by the HSA deal. I don't think we can just sign a blank check and hand that, along with CD's job and the keys to the new arena over to Brown just so hell come here. This franchise has to much at stake to do that.
Why does everyone see Larry Brown as challenging Phil or Red for most titles in history of the nba. Don't get it twisted, Larry Brown is a good coach, but he's not the only or best coach in the history of the game. In another thread it states players win games, which is partly true, but oversetimating a coach is the worse. Larry Brown has coached some teams that have had as much talent as the 94-95 Rockets, but he never won a title. Theres plenty of good coaches out there right for this job, just because he took the boatload from Detroit, doesn't mena thisteam can't win 50games next season with someone else.
Jeff... Are you saying that considering us a second option equates to not wanting to be here? And does that mean that any coach who does not consider us to be the one team he'd coach in the league is somebody you'd not want here? What if Dallas or Sacramento coaching vacancies opened up? Or San Antonio? Would you still dismiss the idea of hiring any coach who doesn't have us as his first choice? Well, considering that our first choice, Brown, seems on his way out, I sure as heck hope that the remaining coaches don't adopt the same attitude.
